What do you think of PeBay ?

Here is the page :

http://www.perc.info/peBay.asp

it costs 5 dollars or 50 ped to be able to use it.

Looks like it’s a parralell auction system for PE. I wonder if it can avoid paying 1 ped fee to MA … and if you can place an auction IN PE auction system or if it is stricly independent of PE.

Anyway, wouldn’t it be cool to place auctions and trade while you’re at work, offline from PE ? :tongue2:

This Service is almost unused. Would interessting if more People use it and Check regulary.

There’s something I don’t understand.

If you want to sell, you have to pay 50 peds, ok → reason why noone is using it (almost : 50 users).

If you want to buy, you have to pay or not ?

Anyway I think that pricing method would have been greater if implemented once system took off, not at the very beginning … it might actually kill that beauty.

50 peds is a lot of auctions ingame … :wise:

Good coder, no doubt ; good businessman ? Look the way eBay worked, they were free at the beginning or else noone would have used it … put your (great) mind at work on that Starfinder → (friendly advice from a simple banker).

Is it even legal to take a fee for using a modified service that is similar to ingame auctions when MA has the copywright

I have always thought perc is a useless site but this is just over the edge

simple business model :

50 peds per 50 users : 2500 peds

there is 200 000 players online → pessimistic estimation : 50 000 people trading a lot.

if you bill 5 peds for subscription : 5 * 50 000 : 250 000 peds … !

my 2 cents of advice …

well, I don’t think there is a difference between this system and all the forum that are used to placed selling adds … except that it is much more efficient

of course, if MA modifies just a little it’s Client Loader … I know someone who will be in trouble with his paying customers … unless MA approves this tool and parallel business.

Quite simply you need to be a registered member of PriceFinder to sell via the auction system. Anyone can buy/bid, registered or not.

Knuckles, want to show me this copyright document for the ingame auction system?

[QUOTE=Dirk]
… show me this copyright document …

Actually, you just need to make something to automatically gain copyright to it, in Sweden. No need for any documentation or anything.

so that means that MA doesn’t recognize PeBay ? does it mean that you guys are against it ???

If they are it’d be the first I heard about it.

The entire system is hand coded and takes it’s influence from ebay if from anywhere. I dont see any similarity to the ingame auction other than the fact it’s used to sell the same items.

…and not documenting a copyright seems rather foolhardy, what if two seperate groups create the same thing, with no knowledge of eachother? Who ‘owns’ it then?

The one who first shows it to swedish patent agency

Ah, well that clears that up then, thanks. The Patent office has the documents.

Sounds like they have pretty much the same laws governing copyright as most others

The author gains the copyright immediately upon creation (of anything… a story, a picture, a piece of software (although not an idea or concept))

In a legal copyright war, then you have the problem of proving the copyright is yours (Basically that you made it first, and the other person stole your code/text/image)

Nothing needs to be registered in any government department (Copyrights are not Patents)

The easiest way to prove that you have the copyright on anything is to post a copy using recorded delivery to either yourself or your solicitor. Do not open it. The date stamp on postal stamps has been used to sort out copyright infringement many times

As for a Pebay auction infringing a PE copyright, not at all. If that was the case, forums such as this (and I think there are other PE forums…) would not be able to advertise auction-by-forum

My 2pec worth…

woudlent pay to use itunless there was somet radical advantage

The main advantage I can see is that you are not limited to single items

EG: Make up a “n00b set” consisting of full Goblin, a D-1, an axe 1x0 and a fap-5

That way you place one bid, for the full set - much easier than trawling thru loads of PE auctions/resellers etc

Or how about “BLP set” AS 127, Dante, Hanzor Scope

I can think of lots of sets that would benefit by being made a group

Clothing sets

Armour sets

Etc…

there is also the advantage of looking up the average markup values for the items you are bidding on.

personally, i don’t buy anything in auction without checking pricefinder or pe-monitor first to see if it is a fair price based on the averages of auctions that ended through bidding (doesn’t include buyouts).

and, buying a full armor set without having to get it piecemeal through the ingame auction is a huge plus. there are just too many chances of not getting the set in game.

with that $5 fee, dirk or starfinder will correct me if i am wrong, you also get more detailed info from pricefinder, including the ability to set “watches” on specific items.

they did implement that with sebmex’s model. it was free and only recently became a fee service.

that’s how they got my $5!

not that i am complaining. hard work deserves reward.

i was going to pay the 50PED till i saw how few people used it so ill stick with the in-game auction 50 PED = 50 auction that wil be seen by a lot more people

There seems to be some misunderstandings as to why, where and how with those 50 PED subscripsion…

So.. here goes..

The 50 PED or 5 USD (Which far more than only 50 people have paied so far) were mainly something we started charging for Pricefinder.. peBay were initially to be completely free..

So.. to begin in the beginning.. o_0 …

PERC were suppose to be funded by MindArk in form of an affiliate agreement.. As im sure MindBuster can tell you, professional server sites arent cheap to run. Howver there were some misunderstandings between us and MindArk so we had to earn our server money elsewhere…

We first placed a “donate” button on the site.. but no one were kind enough to donate anything..

So we had to take the function moste people were using on PERC and start charging for it.. This were “hard” for us to do since we all would like it to be “free, but donate if you can” kinda like…

With the “guilt” we felt over charging for this service we svore that we would allow paying Pricefinder users full access to ANYTHING that were EVER made on ANY sub sites to PERC.

PeBay were one of those sub sites.
So in order not to “cheat” the paying people so to say we had to make it more beneficial for them.. and hence PeBay got partly included in the premium account demand.

Another very valid, in our mind’s, point were that the major problem an off-game auction site faces is “fake” accounts. We would practically delete the false sellers when there were a 50 PED one time fee.

Besides this we also made a rating system and other goodies.
For instance.. you can place your PeBay auctions here on EF.. and soon on EP.. then you can just sit back and see people from EF outbid people on EP.. on the same auction.. and you havent got to update anything anywhere..

If you want a full feature list of peBay / Pricefinder just let me know and i will post it.. Mind you its over 5 A4 pages long…

And now FireW0lf is developing the moste ground breaking tool for Pricefinder yet, imo. A “Pricefinder Voice Edition”.. With that you can HEAR prices of items WHILE YOU ARE INGAME.. (We wont launch it until we have confirmation from MA that we can)..
This comes in two versions.. a free version with PeBay ad’s in.. Just imagine this all you peBay sellers.. with those 50 PED people will, while using the tool HEAR your sales.. And the program also comes in a premium version, also covered for in your 50 PED, where you will recive no ad’s…

To put it in the word of [SOF]Droid and Deathifier who are both premium members: “Best 50 PED I ever spent”…

We will continue to develop a lot of features for PERC’s sub sites but you have to understand we have to value our paying customers higher that the average “joe”…

I hope that cleared matters up a bit…

I still dont understand why PeBay would be better than ingame auctions since everyone looking for a item checks auctions first which means there is a better chance of selling stuff ingame than on some ebay ripoff site outside the game

Knuckles..
Well.. I also think the ingame auctions are best for selling “day to day” items so to speak..

The power of this system is when you are either selling sets, multiple items and so on.. or when you are selling “rare” items.. which mostely is done in pvp trade.. The feature that you can “sell” on EF and soon on EP truely makes it an auction that can be seen by many, while you can continue to use the item(s)
