Found this on www.myentropia.com once and saved it.
i have tried if it works and so have some other members of Danish Mercenaries ← had to put it in
and we all agreed that it works… :wise:

Skills
If you gain in the following when blasting:
surveying = enmatterdeposit
prospecting = oredeposit
geology = beginning/end of vein
perception = larger deposit nearby
intelligence (when placing rod)= deposit is part of a vein
Blasting
Detectors reach around 45 meters from the blast. It will always locate the nearest deposit. Small deposits are closer to the surface, so if you want a large one, try blasting the same spot again. Chances are you strike nothing, or a bigger deposit. Several deposits near eachother is a cluster. Search for clusters if you gain skills when placing the first rod. If the cluster is in a triangluar pattern, it indicates fairly large cluster and good area. From what I have heard, no matter what your skill is, you will find the deposit if its there. Might sound weird, but hey, these are just rumours, remember?
Veins
Veins stretch in straight directions, either north, east, west or south. When you find a deposit, run for approx. 10 seconds in a direction of your choice, and blast again. A vein can contain all different ores and enmatters mixed together. Therefore, use both probes and seismic bombs. If you dont find anything, run for another 10 seconds in the same direction. Chances are the vein has "holes" in it. If you cant find anything, go back to your first rod, and try a different direction. There is almost always a vein, even if its hard to find, and they can stretch very far (half across Calypso, I have heard!).
If you get a prospecting/surveying it means there is a deposit ample or bigger (could be massive, vast who knows ) within the vein/cluster you are mining. doesn't always mean its nearby could be at the other end of the vein but gives you a good idea of when to bomb carefully.
So far in my experience all larger deposits (ample+) are on the edge of veins.
