From the discussion in the other thread and on discord some players are speculating warping through space may have become more risky. The theory is warp mines can now disrupt a spaceship such as a mothership / privateer more easily than before. The purpose of which may be to get players to use Teleport Tokens more.
However, from the discussion in discord support say it is working as intended. The discussion didn’t make it clear if that means MA have made the changes and hence working as intended or there have been no changes hence again working as intended.
It comes down to if the warp ship can surely protect itself or if its customers resort to the logging out exploit. If a ship doesn’t fall into either of the 2 categories, flying it is not safer than flying a quad while continuously posting your coordinates in space chat, and the result shouldn’t come as a surprise.
As I understand it, the higher your captain level the more chance you have of dodging a warp mine based on the warp mine the pirate placed.
Though this is just what I’ve heard from over the years and I’ve never used warp with a quad/privateer myself.
What was said in discord was just someone who didn’t understand it yet. I very much doubt they’ve changed anything.
Captain is the dodge/evade of space. The higher your level, the more of a chance you can dodge the mine. We tested this a lot, but ofc its gets expensive to get a lot of data on it.
The second factor is the mines vs the drives. But hardly anyone used a bigger drive these days.
All in though this is a game of chance, there are many other ways these days to avoid being killed in space.
I never understood how the warp mines work. Do you need to be close to the mine in order to attack and loot the player? Or do you get any kind of warning when the mine that you placed get activated?
For a game with a Real Cash Economy it just have way too many grey areas. Maybe Mindark thinks this is fun but I’m sure many players don’t even download the game because of this grey areas and lack of good tutorials. This way doing more damage than good to the game.
from what i have seen nothing has changed and warp is very much working like it always has. Besides i highly doubt anyone left at mindark who was involved when warpmines/drives and gates were first implemented - therefor likely noone who will be changing it till ue5 brings jumpgates.
Risk is the same… it’s just in the last few months we have gotten alot of new warpers with low skill lvl in space since alot of ships have changed owners in the past few months ( well since the space update ).
And the mats to make warpmines are also more common than they use to be so we have low skill lvl + more warp mines that is the main issue.
So nothing has really changed in space and from what i’we seen it’s just a few quads at the warpmine… nothing like a few years ago when the pirates had motherships and privateers.
So their targets are ships with lower SI and light warpships like Equus and Firebirds hoping someone got lazy.
