Virtuality and Gaming

Experiencing a virtual universe, because…:

I myself went through some stages in my PE “life”:

1.) Gaming-stage: shoot everything that moves and “skill-up” to be more effective doing whatever I do, which at that point was mostly hunting. Kind of like when children irl touch, taste and absorbe everything in their surroundings.

2.) Confusion-stage: is it a game to me? At this point not anymore. I spend too much time online in PE to concider it a mere game. Then what is it? Which direction should I take. What beliefs should I adopt, what profession do I want to persue? This stage was for me just like when irl teenagers start questioning everything, sometimes trying to adapt sometime kicking and screaming in anger because nothing goes their way.

3.) Maturity-stage: at this point, where I am right now, PE is not a game to me at all anymore. PE has become a full grown virtual universe where I spend a great deal of my spare time. I have set some goals, accepted some simple facts and try to move in the direction I chose for my virtual existance. This stage is for me the same stage as I am in irl - starting, nurturing and seeing a life with work, friends, entertainment grow into something I can enjoy for many years.

At some point I might reach the retirement-stage, but as in rl I will be of Yoda’ish age before I sit back and watch the noobs with all their fancy gadgets wondering if it wasn’t better and simpler when I was a noob, even though I had to walk barefooted through the rivers of Rippersnappers only defending myself with an Axe to get to the city where my dreams would come true

In my opinin it’s all a gamble. That’s why I loves it … I’d rather spend my hard earned $$ here than at some casino getting drunk of watered down drinks.

Also it’s the experience, I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun gambling my money away.
As for MindArk … they’re geniuses. Finally someone has figured out a way to take your money and make it fun. I mean really fun. Where else do you have the chance to stare down death and if you actually win … you of course hope for some sweet-ass reward.

I’m a miner, so unless I go to my usual hunting spots, chucking probes is a gamble.

But that’s just my opinion

just throwing this in since it says its a “game” quite a few times.

Now since they said they pool the loot from the ammo it is the same as a lottery. And that crafting machine is pretty much a slot machine  .

Only difference is you have a choice to hunt, mine, craft… or buy pants and decorate your new apartment with trophy heads.

I like to believe it will evolve into a “virtual universe” but that wouldnt happen unless participants had alot more freedom and control over outcomes other than loot size.

I also believe they’ve needed to put a big part of paying for the game on the participants shoulders as investors aren’t feeling the virtual universe just yet according to mindark. You see them trying to take that load off with reductions in decay and the talked about advertisement system.

Only thing that I find weird in the EULA, is the unquestioned power that MA gives themselfes over everything in the virtual universe.
If this is really a Virtual life with real money, I don’t think that passages from the EULA like “MA may terminate accounts without explanation… bla bla bla”. (I haven’t looked up the exact words of it, but that’s how I remember it).

If this was taken to trial in a real court, I’m sure MA would lose. They can’t claim to have a real economy on one hand, and at the same time have no responsibilities whatsoever.

Umm well, as we’re speaking law…

The EULA is basically made to cover the collective hides of MA (not tt loot but the ones them folks sit on), it’s designed to cover every eventuality and ensure their are no loop-holes or foot-holds for legal geeks to interpret the wording. That’s it, nice and simple. If you actually read the small print, you have a ‘EULA’ with your mobile phone/internet provier/fav porno site/credit card company, etc. Besides a court of law would not be interested in compound arguments. Your quite right in that MA would prob. get in trouble for claiming RCE, and would prob. be forced to rename it - maybe VCE

Of course to get a court to hear the case, would require many, many privately funded peds. And even if you win, you still don’t get your account back, as it’s in the EULA

But to finally get BTT…

I liked part of TzestOs post. What is real, is how we each perceive the world around us, our bodies provide a vehicle for moving around in the physical world, just as our computers & fingers provide the vehicle in EU.
