Since the Space mining popped up, There’s some new stuff to figure out. I’ve been curious about the Pioneer Ship. I’ve read everything I could find and here is what I think I know at this point.
Attached lasers are for the Pilot, and are installed on the ship. Mounted Lasers are for the 'Backseater" and they bring their own and equip and use them like any gun. 2 person Quads are reported to be the most efficient mining setup, so I suppose a 3 person crew with 2 Backseaters could be better?
I have not (yet) found a weapon that will mount to the Pioneer, despite the description of “CIWS Autoguns”, so it would not be suitable for hunting the “Space Mobs” or, indeed, even for “Self Defence” if needed.
The Oil consumption is WAY less on the Pioneer, and the Cargo max weight is way more, so, there is that. It’s slightly slower than the Quad, and the Quad has better protection, so it would be better suited to hunting anyways.
It’s also huge, and I heard that it cannot spawn inside a Space Station.
Would love to hear from owners what you have found out, I would undertake the missions to build one if they are worth it.
The task has several parts, I have received the first part, but I am told there are four consecutive tasks. There are spaceship materials, weldingwire, morpheus ingot and 10 tokens each for the howling mine quests. But I don’t know how much needs to be turned in in the other parts. Could someone who already has a spaceship advise me?
its about 300p of materials for each turn in, its all space components and welding wire and Howling mine construction tokens (you will need 40 total, 10 per turn in). I don’t have the list for each part, but you get a ship part (Hull, Life-support, Electronics, etc.) and the TT back in shrapnel. once you turn in all the parts you get the ship.
The pioneer can be summoned on a space station with no problem, the main issue i see at the moment is that I cannot equip Eitri weapons which are High Power and it states on the Pioneer that is can use High power lasers, so maybe i need to find the CIWS lasers.
It has 3 seats and is kinda slow, but has a cool look. Its nice to use for small team mining.
Another question: In the description of the pioneer, there are, ofc, 2 ‘Gunner’ seats that can use mounted mining lasers. They also mention a defensive weapon that only the pioneer can use, equipped like the mining lasers so that the gunner can switch from mining to defense, if needed. Since neither the Kismet light laser or Porcupine can be mounted, afaik, there are no weapons for the Pioneer.
My tolerance for MA’s shenanigans is pretty high but movement decay on an already very expensive to acquire and use ship is actually disgusting behaviour. Will not be investing to get one of those on principle, there is almost zero percent chance they are profitable to use with added movement decay.
@Socrates|Mindark any chance MA are open to reversing movement decay on this ship?
Not just movement decay but spawned decay as well I think. I’ve no interest just because of that. The Howling Mine Heavy Fighter is the same as well I think. Not entirel sure though.
On the topic of decay that affects this ship, NI stated that they had been given a choice by MA about having a vehicle that was more fun to fly but with a smallish amount of compulsory decay or, yes apparently really, a vehicle that was intentionally LESS fun, but without any use decay. NI chose the more fun but with decay option, so it is one of the only planetary vehicles to do so.
I had a daily I liked to do and use the vehicle for it because, yes, it was faster to do the task with it AND more fun. I originally planned to NOT use one of these ‘on principle’, but decided you CAN argue the case for use decay as part of any economy going on, alongside (L) weaps and armour.
What I seriously dislike is not disclosing the decay amounts, though. However, I would have expected sellers to maybe make the effort to assess and publish the stats themselves (unless on the decidedly poor side). It’s a lot more to pay for something a buyer might not like and even be pretty annoyed by than paying for a fun planetary vehicle every couple of years (my quad is clearly going to outlive me on current trajectories…)
Thats the Skyripper that you are talking about there. I have one and its very useful but its not too expensive either and I don’t mind the movement decay on it for that reason. The mining ship on the other hand is very expensive costing hundreds of peds so thats a different matter. IMO.
