Suggestion for Recruting new Forum Members

I think that you can pull some of the long time EP forum posters if you gave credit for the number of posts there.

Make a post on EP - come over to EF and we’ll credit you the number of posts that you already have.

Perhaps this would be a prime motivator for some of the high post members.

who says MB wants all the big posters on EF
I like EF because it doesn’t have as many members as EP

It’s QUALITY, not QUANTITY

*yes, i know i post a lot here… but i can’t help myself! I like what we talk about here too much!

All these refering to EP, why not credit MB for the work he does here! If you only come here because ‘everything is better then EP’ you’ll get disappointed again I’m afraid. Number of posts comes with the members… same questions all over again (you might consider as spam, while it’s in fact just bad searching) comes with the number of nemwbie members. Those numbers will increase here too with the job MB is doing

As for the topic: Again the same, proposing to give ‘presents’ to people to join here doesn’t show much respect. As if the forum as such isn’t good enough.

Yeah, this forum is the best.No oppression,no taunting from moderators, controversial ideas are allowed and so on

I LOVE YOU MINDBUSTER :hammer:

We are still young but growing steadily.

This forum wasnt made as a competition.

well said have some rep :girl:

Personally I have checked many forums and usually turned back right away when they seem to be a whiner/ep-hater clubs without anything good on their own.

Among my first posts I wrote that its easy to have good forum with small number of users and kind of cozy atmosphere. The real test will be when we got something like 100 more daily posters. Then situation starts to be like at EP: way too many posts to read every new post every day and way too big forum for one person to moderate.

I dont think there is any reason to hurry toward that. Its much better if amount of users grow on its own pace.

As others have said this forum is great in its own and I beleive it goes against all this forum stands for to give post count to members from other forums.

Look, noone said this thing had to be the biggest…

wistles

As was mentioned by Radical, the EP forum wishes the EF forum nothing but the best and we hope as the trouble makers leave EP they dont come here.

My question is why do you want to recruit new members? More member will bring lots of problems (EP used to be this small or smaller and just as nice and fun back then.)

I agree with Dino. Who wants more members anyways? I like our crew. Too bad I fear the glory days have passed us already…

The thing that I feel makes EF unique is its smaller user base. We have a concentrated amount of long-time PE players, making the community here much different than EP. Newer players are usually never bad, but it ups the quality of discussion here and helps to keep bandwidth bills down. Having a bigger community is a tradeoff for quality.

I don’t necessarily know about “long-time” players. I’ve only been playing about 4-5 months.

I think it’s a matter of EF being a smaller core of more dedicated players. EP has the dubious distinction of being pointed to in the client-loader and on the main Resources page for P-E. While nice for marketing, and a good way to get those good contributors, it also brings a much higher quantity of whiners & scammers & all the rest. EF takes a bit more digging to find, so it tends to attract those who have already been around for a bit, or the new players who are serious enough to invest the time & energy in finding it.

Heh - I just thought of a similar situation regarding some local churches ( )

I’m not religious, but the parallel is interesting: We have one BIG church in town that is big on evangelism. They have concerts almost every week, big events constantly, a “crusade” every year with hundreds of thousands of people attending. They are really good at bringing people “into the fold”, but because of their sheer size, they’re not all that good at nurturing the “new believers” beyond a certain point. Those who reach that level tend to move away from the behemoth to smaller, more personal churches where their needs can be met more personally.

An odd parallel, I’ll admit, but I think it’s valid. EP is the introduction, the training ground, so to speak. Some will find everything they need there, and that is wonderful for them. Some, though, will need a different experience - and EF is one of those options.

Both have their purpose and place, and both fulfill them well. To say one is better than another is like asking which is better - prime rib or a corvette? You can’t compare the two.

I think I was slightly misunderstood. Here is a reworking of a response I made to a pm.

Hi

I didn’t mean the post in the way you think.

In order for a forum to be successful it needs one of two important qualities. Either be very specific in its nature (forum for only miners) or be general with a lot of posters (information.)

In order for EF to be successful it needs lots of posters. A post = information. When I want to know something I visit PE. Why? because the search function nearly always reveals that someone has already posted on the topic. But here at EF this is not true.

The question is how to get more people to post?

People who post in forums love their post total. They move up from noobie through the various post ranks. We see post envy when someone like (edit so no names) hits a milestone in posts.

By playing to this psychological desire to be a ‘top’ poster EF can grow quickly.

Perhaps my words could have been a little better thought out. perhaps instead of ‘pull’ i could have said ‘encourage’ and instead of ‘come over’ I could have said ‘post’.

None the less. I still think it is a good idea."

Just my opinion on what a forum is or should be. My apologies if I offended any of the EP crew. I can’t imagine how difficult PE would be without the service they offer.
