I was doing some mining, and as I planted a claim, I suddenlt got a change in proffesions. The thing is, I didn’t get “you gained experience in…”, so my question is, do you gain skills independent of the skill-gain message?

Maybe the msg just lagged? This msg has only appeared for me once and my proffesional standings has changed alot since so.. I dont know.. Its kinda fishy.
That happend to me to, about an hour after my skilling round

Strange, because I hadn’t use any weapons in about ten minutes. Seems strange to be lag really. Is there any confirmation from MA that skills only come with the gain-msg? Marco, please confirm 
Messages can be lagged and you can also gain skills (very rarely) on failure - initially just for manufacturing but shortly after I believe they applied it to everything.
From what I’ve seen Professional Standings are not calculated in realtime; and that’s probably what happened here. Makes sense, since it could mean calculating 50 Prof Standings every time you get a skill gain.
Now the answer to your question: You don’t gain skills if you don’t get a message.

The same thing happens to me with my amps… I could be standing at auction for 10 or 15 minutes after a fight and I get the warning that my amp is reaching minimum condition… same thing with the delay in telling you your professional standings have changed
Although I must say, it would definitely be on my wish list to get skill gains whilst not skilling … a little easier on my credit card that’s for sure 
i think its coming a bit after just to mess around… or it replaces a skillgain perhaps?
