Last night while I was once again playing while I should be in bed I set a deadline for myself to stop playing when I reached 1K rifle skills.
I was at 990 when I decided this. So after I got some gains I looked and it was at like 995, so from there I started counting. I noticed not everytime I got the message saying “you have gained experience in your rifle skill” I got an extra level. When it was at 999 I needed 3 skill gains to actually get to 1000. What’s the deal with this?
The ratio of messages is not always 1:1. I begins to take longer and longer per level as your skills get higher.
Yeah I thought it was something like that. Is there like a list howmany messages you have to get between x and y levels to get a skill increase?
And what mobs do you think is best for skilling rifle?
yea, you need to fill out the yellow bar at each skill completely with the “you gained experience in…” messages to gain a lvl. it takes very few (sometimes 1) skillgains at low levels, but will slowly require more and more to get a whole level.
Another question about skilling I have if it matters what gun/amp you are using.
Currently I’m using the TT opalo with an a103, and I’m considering upgrading the amp to an a105. Will this influence skill gains in any way?

It will not influence the skillgain that much…it will influende the dmg/second some, but also the decay… Think about it once again before upgrading for sure ![]()
betwen 960 and 1000 there is a so called “slowdown”.
So it is getting slower and slower the closer 1000 you will come.. Then after 1000 it will go abit faster again… ![]()
Yeah its the 1k skill barrier, this skill barier is so much fun witch secondry skills not !
I dont think that there are barriers or slowdowns like they used to be few VU ago (before skill system change).
Now its going quite smooth, and skills rise like mad at the begining (up to ~2k).

Aah that’s great news. I stopped at exactly 1000 last night and was a bit annoyed that it took me so long. Looking forward to playing again after work now ![]()
@Taxita, so you’re advising against the amp105? Would it be better to upgrade to another weapon? What would be the logical next weapon after Opalo and howmany rifle skills do you need to use it effectively?
Lot’s of questions and lot’s of great answers sofar. Thx all who are participating in this thread ![]()
the 1k barrier is no more, so that’s not what is slowing you ![]()
(when it existed you needed like 10-15 skillgains to get one lvl!)
an A105 will give you some extra dmg/pec too. put it on opalo and you got a very cost economic weapon ![]()
Well then I guess I was just tired. When you’re waiting for something it always takes longer, right ![]()
I will test tonight if I still get 3 messages for 1 skill gain. Can’t believe there’s no list or anything …
atleast theres a 2k slowdown.. ![]()

The skills do not rise equally. When you get 3 messages for 1 level gain, you might need 2 or 4 messages. That’s you you get two skill messages at the same time sometimes, it’s then just to much for one message.
Today I dropped a few bombs, my miningskills sucks but I went from lvl 9 surveying to lvl 11 with only one message.

yup. but only between 1990 and 2k orso…(with aim that is…)
on a micro scale, you can notice (and track/record) this same effect while crafting, related to QR bumps.
start with a 1qr bp and set condition slider all way to the right…you will see that each QR bump brings ~1.1 whole QR untill it gets around 10. then it decreases, and decreases more as you get highrr in QR of the bp. In between, slide the slider all way to the left and you’ll notice that you get a lot less qr per bump. I havent been able to test (too disguested to care) but I assume this is same in hunting/etc… if you use a weapon that gives 3ped decay per shot you’ll get a higher skill bump each time than if you use a 3pec decay weapon.
stuck in 990
I’m in slow-montion skill gain mode too. I got to like 990 and it seems to take forever. oh well, guess i’ll buy lik 50,000 rounds and clear more herds. : P
I have found that bery’s (can’t spell it) and atrox young (with blp) skill more than others i’ve hunted. might just be me though. I got more rifle skill gains with a117 than anyother weapon i’ve ever used, but decay is just too much on that rifle.

Think of the yellow bar as more of a XP bar. You wont have the same XP for every grade bar you are going up. For example:
First grade bar you get as a pure noob might be 50 XP, the second could be 150, and up to say 1000 for grade 10 which at this point you would get your first pure lvl. So, if you multiply that by say 10 each time you gain a pure lvl, by the time you would be at lvl 1000, you could be in a sense having to gain, 1 million XP to get that last lvl.
Remember, you are gaining a GRADE lvl each time the bar fills, not a PURE lvl. ![]()
I’m dumb
What is the difference btw grade level and pure level? don’t get it.
