skill chips and hitpoints

i was just wondering because of all the stuff i read about chipping here … how is buying and selling skills connected to your hitpoints?

since there seem to be certain skills that have a more or less high HP modifier, what happens when you buy or sell any of those skills?

will there be like 3 messages saying “you have gained additional health” after implanting the chip? or what if you load a chip … will you loose any health?

the only skill i might be interested in buying is actually engineering though lol … because it’s quite hard to get up and i thought that it will generally help in crafting … i think it doesn’t modify health anyway … and it’s a bit expensive as well … anyway, just thought about this, any insight someone can give is appreciated … thanks

Buying skills that gives hp will give you hp when they are inserted and load away skill wich gives hp will make you loose hp.

The skills I know at the moment who increase your hp level are courage, melee combat, weapon handling, mining and drilling. There are proboly some more but thoose I know for sure gives you hp.

i think some of the evade related skills help too.. especially athletics

Confirmed skills that raise your HP that I remember now is following:

  • Melee Combat
  • Dextery
  • Courage
  • Agillity
  • Strength
  • Combat Reflex
  • Athletics
  • Coolness

I will put a list later if there is interest for it.

Mining’s confirmed too Kjetil

Everything raises HP, but those kjetil mentioned does it fastest, stuff like mining and crafting shouldnt be bought with the purpose of raising HP because those are extremely slow.

Commando to

I agree with the fact that they shouldn’t be bought with the purpose of raising HP, especially since mining and crafting skills are often very highly priced, but as of yet we can’t prove that all skills raise HP, logic tells us that they do, but we can’t confirm our beliefs.

Nope many skills have no effect on health at all, and you can test it.

Have someone follow you out hunting with a FAP, and then FAP you as you hunt.
Now as you fight you’ll get the usual skill gains and whatnot and you can tell if a specific skill gives health by the following:

You get a skill gain in just that one skill.
You have not taken any damage (full health).
You then get healed, rather than your helper getting the “avatar has full health” message.

When you gain skills that affect health you will gain some tiny tiny fraction more health then you do now, however you are not healed for that amount at the same time.
Therefore you are technically injured and the FAP will heal you.

It is harder since 7.4 since skillgain messages tend to appear less during the killing process and more in clusters after however it still works.

It’s the word from Marco that everything gives HP.

That “tiny tiny fraction” can easily be so tiny that it doesnt count until the fraction is big enough, like the fap could heal whenever the HP loss/gain is 0.01, but the fraction could be 0.001 or less, so the fap wouldnt heal until the fraction is 10 times that, at 0.01. It depends on how the coding is done.

ok, thanks for all the input so far

and just to make this clear, i don’t want to buy skills in engineering in order to raise my health  i was thinking about investing something into engineering skills because it helps with all crafting (the main reason why so many people - me included  - craft those basic filters and other useless crap after all) and maybe it will help get better results all in all in crafting … i dunno yet though, since it’s one of the most expensive skills to buy …

the question with health just came to my mind while i was generally thinking about it  and yeah … i once read on this forum that all skills except the crafting skills have a more or less greater/smaller effect on health, can’t remember where exactly though …

drilling is proofed too.

I think that it was some change in VU 7.4 in that purpose.
Before VU 7.4, we could also see skills that made very little HP-change. Example of this was the attribute “Intelligence”. Now that doesn’t work anymore, and I think that they made some more changed to the display heal with currents FAP’s.
The method that I use to test if a skill gives hp or not is to have full heal and do an action. If I can heal after that action, the action itself gave me some more HP. Every “experience-message” after an action done can result in HP or not.

About that every skill gives HP, I really don’t think so. That some skills gives more HP then others, is for sure.

what about anatomy?? My mentor use to tell me that it was a pretty good modifier, I use to use it as a guide, I get one hp every 150 or so anatomy as a new avatar until around 1.2k anatomy or so… of course, rifle and others rised accordingly with the anatomy but it seems right that knowing your body will help you gain more health.. shrug
