Reply from support about skill system

I send a support case 5 days ago with my observations and critics on the new skill system.

Got this reply from support :

2005-06-14 MindArk Support:
Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter with us. To be able to improve PE in the best possible way, we are depending on this kind of feedback from our participants.
We have introduced the new skill-system to make skilling more realistic and fairer to everyone. But we do understand your worries. Just after a change has been made it can be difficult to see the advantages about it. As you probably understand, we cannot reveal any details about the core functioning of PE. The new system certainly makes it easier for newbies to gain skills faster, but only in the beginning. The better you get at an activity, the harder it gets to gain new skill experience in that activity. For really experienced users players it is really difficult to gain new skills. However, the new system also allows you to influence your skill gain in certain ways. For example you can choose to use more advanced equipment or attack larger and more dangerous mobs.
However, we will forward your remarks to the design team.
/Regards
Support

Of course nothing we already know
Anybody got the same reply or perhaps another one from which we could derive a little more info about the new system?

Check in the clientloader, under the button “about” and scroll down. They give a lil more info about skill system.

couldn’t you do that with the old system? Or is there something more to it?

well, I noticed when I LongRange a mob with my ML and finish it off with my mad, I get more “kill” skills, that is, on my kill shot, like 3 diff skills will pop up.

That would be the skill bonus, which was also mentioned at the VU’s release :wise:

Nice support reply frankly :girl:
They replied in a very professional yet kindly manner, taking into account your concerns and even recognizing the concerns of others who feel the same way you do!.. if only every support case were answered this way.

Yes- of course they are not going to write you btw and say “FFS you’re right m8! We’ll change the skill system back for you asap!”

 Darn it! I would love such an answer just once!

:yup:

yeah, really =P

MA changing the skill system back to the previous one is exactly what i think of if we could just make ONE reasonable request. i could probly even learn to deal wtih the nerfed radar (tho it poses SERIOUS problems to certain hunting strategies) but the skill system has 99% of players pissed off =D

i dont think itd be so far out of the park for MA to say, well, guess no one likes this, and we aim to please the customers, so we’ll change it back. wouldnt be a big deal at all.

=D

Just to play Devil’s Advocate (but not b/c I’m a bitch simply b/c when ppl start reading things like this they are stupid and actually believe it…)… could you clarify where exactly you found that 99% of the current PE player base dislikes the new skill system? If so, pls do send a support to MA with those stats :girl:

I still think the skill system is the most improved. Its late and i should be in bed. But using bigger weps and more ammo burn to get better skills makes sense to me.

Maybe because i am tired or maybe because thats the way of the world.

who knows.

I was kinda surprised about the nice reply as a matter of fact. Was expecting an automated reply to be honest. Probably because this was my first support case ever?
Well, I do hope they take my observations into consideration.

Basically, general skills almost don’t improve on my avatar anymore ( all below 3k, not yet in slowdown ). My hp has been stuck on the same level since the new VU, my professional standings as well.
Melee combat ( 4.3k+ ) improves like 2 maybe 3 levels on a full katsuichi pride, and LB ( 3.6k+ ) has the same problems… looks like I’m stagnating.
I tried alot of different mobs to gain skills, and found the best one to be atrox ( guardian and domninants though ). Another one is Equus, but I haven’t found any other mob that gave me skill gains, and/or ( good ) loot.

And this was one of my complaints too, the fact that I seem to have to go hunt a specific mob to get skills and some decent loot. FORCING people into doing things isn’t so fun imo. I can’t keep hunting Atroxes and Equus all my career lol, that’ll get pretty boring soon
I’d really would like a choice about what I hunt and when( like I did before )

We have tried to reduce the boring part of skilling and instead make skilling a natural part of normal game play.

This is part from a reply to a support case someone else got.
Imo skilling wasn’t boring, it was low-risk hunting and having fun at the same time seeing my avatar improve bit by bit. Also had great fun skilling with friends! I can’t believe they find it ‘boring’… most certainly a large part of the community doesn’t.

And before anyone goes replying with ‘adapt’, people who know me, know that I adapt very fast to any new situation.
I welcome changes too, but this one is a very radical one

The idea itself is very nice, and it’s simple logic that you get better skills while engaging bigger challenges. But the main problem with this is the fact that you HAVE TO buy better equipment and decay more in order to do so.
Which is very good from MA’s point of view, but not so from the less wealthy population from PE

I also asked for an OFFICIAL statement in my support case as to why they changed it and what was wrong with it. I sincerely hope they will do so.

As a lot of people I’m eagerly awaiting VU 7.5 to see IF they do something about it… and more specifically WHAT they will do about it.

Have a strong fealing they wont change anything about it.
The reason I say so is to be found in this short story.

A proud farmer ones bought some land and wanted to grow potatos on it, but a friend of his (Which was not a farmer) said that he thought it would be better to grow something else. The proud farmer said to his friend “Since I’m the farmer and you are not, I think I know better what I should grow and what not to”
Some time went by, and no matter how much the farmer tried, he just couldn’t get those darn potatos to grow as he wanted them to.
Then one day his wife said “Why not take your friends advice and try something else, I think he might be right about it”
To this the farmer replied “Very true, he might be right. But if I try to grow something else, I will admit that I was wrong and he was right”
The proud farmer died very poor, and his friend bought the land which made him millions by growing all kind of different things, besides potatos.

Pretty dung story, just made it up while sitting at my work. But think you get the idea… hehe

dung being my new word for shitty - Remember, kids are reading this forum as well… :wise:
