Yea, they’re definitely approximations, but it’s the best test I could figure out at the time (was before we had chat logs), and I just decided to stick with it since it worked.
The HP of the mobs is most likely correct. Since it was found to be Stamina times 10. I think this was also confirmed by Marco in some thread.
I think that nowadays indeed the HP recovery starts with the first damage done. In the past there was a 20 second cycle in which mobs and avatars recovered their HP. I know some people put a metronome next to their computer as to know when to start shooting a mob.
The best way to measure would be a low damage gun so that the time frame needed to do the kill is big. This way any overkill damage will be small and the total amount of regenerated HP high.

i m very happy you super interested in this regeneration matter. If i can ask maybe you can try to test some mob reg (maybe from a mob that you already have the reg data so you can calculate the deviation/error with two separated analysis) using your method and the ones provided in this tread.
Well, as I said earlier, the deviation/error for the calculation method is the damage of the last shot, and the amount of time between regeneration ‘ticks’ (this can be easily found by timing how long a regeneration tick is for the mob)

This doesn’t affect the total regeneration over time, just when it occurs - that you may be lucky and kill a mob right before the tic would have upped it’s health is pretty much irrelevant for the calculation of average kill costs.
Of course you need to repeat the tests and take the average of the results, i think i said this somewhere, too.
My point was that regeneration starts before you have inflicted the “base HP” (960 in the example).

Yeah, people always look for nice numbers, but this doesn’t have to be the case here - computers (and coders) are more likely to use i.e. 128 seconds (because that’s simply a bitwise AND over the last bits, instead of a costly “divide by 100” operation).

See, there we have the problem, the remaining health cannot be determined correctly, and then you keep rounding results to a multiple of 10 seconds.
This is all guesswork, and while the results are somewhat useable, the error margin is way bigger than with my method (and it suffers from the “off/on ticks” problem as well, no idea why you ran down my test method when yours didn’t deal with this either…)
MA would never know when someone decompiles the client code… 
But why should anyone do this?
Regeneration is calculated server side (that’s why it stops when you lose connection) - the only reason to do this client side, too, would be a smoother experience (and re-sync’ed whenever the server gives you an update), but MAs coders are obviously not aware of this method.

This is true, but if you test over and over on those mobs with ‘100’ second regen timers, you’ll see that they’re pretty damn close. Whomever readjusted the mobs liked round numbers.
I never said my method was perfect, it’s just the method I use.
Lol I know that everything is done server side, but the server DOES send the client new information so that we can see what their current health is. If the server sends an update every 10 seconds to raise the viewed health by 5%.. I think it’s pretty obvious what the regeneration rate is.

Did you at least keep track of the damage of the kill shot so we could find out the error for that variable?
The time is calculated from first hit?
And what gun did you use? An average damage of 35 per second is maybe a bit too high for this.

The data for guardian look correct so far, but the results are really strange.
Are you maybe on a sat connection to the internet?
It is possible that this “swallows” some of the damage messages, at least for global messages i know for sure that this can happen when your internet connection is unstable.
(MMOs use UDP for real time data transfer, UDP is not reliable like TCP)
Counting the shots and making sure there is a MISS or a You inflicted XX.X points of damage message for every single shot may fix this, i think the health is tracked server side, so missed “adjust health to XY” datagrams should be no problem.
Then, the problem with the timestamps is that they are not server side, but generated client side - if your computer lags the timestamps can be way off.
And we don’t know what exactly happens when the server lags, the only way to check for server lag is making sure that there are constantly global messages during the test timeframe.
Or maybe we just found a bug - MA might have entered the wrong regeneration value for this mob…
(It might be possible that MA did this on purpose though, i.e. argo scouts have less HP than young & adult, for whatever reason)
However, it seems we get reliable results only from repeating the test several times, preferably with different weapons.

now, i would not say some stupid but it cannot be an idea if you go out there and test them by your self???
if we get very different results this can mean
- the reg is in some way affected by server speed connection
- the data are afftecte to how the client get them
- other
or
we get the same data and amen

The complete chat log shows globals every now and then, so i think we can exclude server lag
The chat log shows no big deviations, it is very unlikely that your client froze for several seconds.
It seems your data are indeed just fine, maybe a smaller finisher gun with less overkill will give more precise results - but except guardian which is way lower than expected, the test look quite good:
Both tests on young just differ 0.37 seconds, mature look even better (0.034 seconds difference), old and dominant are within 1 second (still good results, let’s not forget that the timestamps are rounded down, this can cause up to 2 seconds difference in the timing), and the result for alpha is 0.7 from the result i calculated for the first test.
This looks all very promising, the “ticks” Hijacker mentioned seem to cause way less trouble than expected - the result for guardian must not be wrong, it is just an assumption that higher maturity will have higher regen rates, but as i mentioned earlier, higher maturites on argos can have even less HP, so maybe MA made this on purpose.
We will just have to repeat the tests, with smaller weapons or wait in between shots, but i think were getting somewhere here - I will do some test runs on my own, i just need to find some time - then we can compare our results and check again.
/Edit: Maybe we can confirm the entropedia values, which are exactly 1% of the base HP - this would make things way easier!
