Would you think Project Entropia needs a weekly newsletter made for the participants by the participants?
Please think a bit over it before replaying.. The quality isent in the number of offers you have as a participant… The quality is in the quality of the offers you have.. Will you be glad for such a newspaper… and will you subscribe to it?
The reason why I want to be absolutly sure about this before programming it is that a newspaper requieres a lot of maintinance to be worth anything. So if only 50 people sign up for it, it wont be worth the efford. Pricefinder which over 1000 people regulary use now is a static program, I can leave it alone for a couple of weeks.. and it will still be updated… A newspaper requieres a lot of work… All the time…
So.. think.. would you like one…
Another note… If there were a newspaper.. would you like to write articles for it? Again… we would rather have a no that a yes for you then to say “no” come the first deadline…
Well, its been a while since we have a large base player activity that all can be part of and enjoy. I think this is actually quite a good idea because players from all classes can read and enjoy it. EF’s playerbase should be large enough to support it and if it gets made, a lot more people will know about EF and it will continue to grow. I do not think it will be too much of a hassle to do it since its weekly. Have some comics to take some room, interviewing a player or 2 every week will make it very easy. Of course, we can have the hot news of the week and player’s opinion too. A group of 5 or so should be enough to bring up the newspaper, just make a template of the newspaper and have these people copy+paste quotes, interviews, hot news, opinions, and etc as well as edit them.
So in all, yes I think this is a great idea, and I do believe most of us are able to contribute partially to this project
I have acctually thought of the idea to put up a newspaper-homepage since Im always at forum or chatting ingame and that way mostly catch whatever news that is. The only thing is -Im to lazy to make such a site myself. Ive even started to do one but was thinking “bawwhhh…” and stopped, heh.
In a way the forum itself is a newsletter, we write whatever news we know people would like to read here.
But.
Having a site like the newspapers do. Where say people can send in suggestions to whoever is journalist via mail, or do freelance for it. Offcourse whoever is in charge have to be active as dang or else there is no way they will be news after all.
A culturepage, bugpage, eventpage… etc.
i’d like to move away from webpages and move this ingame. Personally I’d like MA to select community members who are respected and post on various forums to create an in-game newsletter. This could be put up weekly in the old voting terminals (change the spinning V for N, and have NEWS on the terminal front).
Would be fun to pop into a town and read the latest gossip
Great idea Aio, but I doubt MA will put that on their top proirity list, so we’ll probably have to go for a onsite newspaper for now
Skam, I agree that the interface for the newspaper and upkeep of it is a pain, but what if starfinder do that , and all we do is put content in? That wouldn’t be too hard and it will be a lot of fun
I think a new’s letter is totally possible there is so much that happens in this forum and many do not read it because it’s so much to keep up with. Many dont read the forum casue they just dont have time but would probably read a weekly newsletter.
As for what it could cover i have had lots of ideas.
Look at what happened with Black Pearl this week. market Changes like what happend with Kaneriaum this weekend. Reports on Bugs. Then there is everything that marco and MA says. This Burelli investment thing. Trends in Market too like how a ton of items droped first days of the Vu and now nothing. There is also lots of history that can be dug up too. Stories like the case of the stolen PRT, Heck it does even have to be all true iether we could make up fixtional stories and comics too.
Yes I am also liking the idea of a weekly newsletter if the community-at-large would be interested.
It would be optimal if it were eventually available in game, but perhaps in the meantime it could be outside of game as a test to pitch to MA
oh and another thing but i know many where upset when EBN just disapeared

Seems like a good idea, but perhaps monthly would be sufficient, otherwise there wouldnt be alot to tell every week.
You could have every section there is in a real-life newspaper as well.

Ya monthly might not be a bad idea Then it’s certain to be popular.
there is a lot happening every week if you know where to look but monthly wouldnt be bad either. Maybe a news update every week, then a monthly consolidation?
Or make a half month newspaper, that will have enough news, and still be updated regularly. You can have it on the publishing dates as the first and the 16th

Ya i really like this idea too myself, and i also think that alot of people would be willing to commit to this. We are begging for something to read!
About how often the newsletter comes out…
Well for the starters Id say every 2 week, and if things work well and people really want to contribute to it maybe move it to every week.
And how to MAKE the site.
You should either have one person who is control of it all, send your stuff to him to put on the page.
Or have a log-in system where "journalist"can log in, upload pictures and the story and the latest will always be the newsfront.
With the last system the news will get out faster.
with the first system it will look more professional.

What has he got against PERC?
First.. It takes 5 months to get our link on their community site…
Then it isent until there has been MASSIVE persuasion we get to have an interview with him…
Then we make Pricefinder… And he dosent even commet it one bit in the other mails with questions we send to him… (Dident respond to them at all)…
Then EF comes (Great forum.. nothing against this forum) .. and he friggin types a whole txt about it on the webpage.. Never did anything like that with PERC… and as i said.. 5 months to put a simple link in the clientloader…
Then we start talking about a serious newsletter.. And more or less set it up.. with staff and all…
Then out of nowhere MindArk comes up with a newsletter…
Its great that they want to make the newsletter and all…
But sometimes I wonder why I even try to make something for PE since the only thing MA seems to want is user run forums…
Yeah.. I know.. The SMA webpage is also mentioned on the official site in the written txt.. But come on… Its a template website as every forum is… What is the point MA wanna make… “Dont make anything your self.. And if you do something people want - we will also make it”…
