Pondering about : Animal Taming

Hello all, couldn’t get to sleep yesterday and my mind drove off to PE( again  ) and more specifically to animal taming.
Some thoughts:

  • Will we be able to give a name to our tamed animal?
  • Will we be able to assign waypoints for our pet or will it just follow us?
  • I reckon the interface will be simple with commands like : attack, stay, run, walk, give a little pur ( or roar  ),…
  • The food what is it for? Simply for nourishment? Or is it to reward our animal for a good hunt? Or is it needed to heal our animal?
  • Will we be able to FAP our animal?
  • Will our animal be able to evolve? Say you tame an atrax young, will it be able to grow to an atrax guardian for example.
So will it have skills as we do?
  • I hope we can ride our animal, with saddles crafted
Saddles will have different sizes, maybe one for each age of mob, or even better one for each type of mob.
  • What will happen with our loyal companion when it dies? Will it revive like we are able to? Would be funny to tame an atrox dominant, then it gets killed by an amount of bery youngs and adults and revives in PA…massive killing spree…mwhuhahahaha
Maybe the new revival chip could be used for this?
  • What will happen when your animal and you enter a city? Will the turrets blow your little pet away? :frowning: Or will it have a friendly status(versus the turrets that is )?
  • Will we be able to organize tournaments for our pets to fight in?

So many questions… I’m fully aware of the fact that MA is now concentrating on bugfixing( for which I’m glad ) and that no info on animal taming has been made public. Perhaps Marco would be so kind to answer a few questions?
What do you think of my ponderings? Too much to ask as of yet? Maybe any ponderings of your own?

EDIT: Just thought of something, most probably our pets won’t be allowed to enter a city ( dangerous eh lol ), so maybe crafters could craft components for a mini-hangar, a stable so to speak outside of the city? These stables could be rented from somebody who build that hangar or perhaps from the city itself.

You made some nice exampls of what i would really like to see. I would really like to see our mobs have skills, and be able to evolve as you said. Perhaps when we first tame an animal with not very high skills, you would only be able to tame a young animal of a specific species and then after you have tamed a number of youngs you could move up to mature, and then on up the line.

  • I would also like to see-
  1. An animal that you could use for storage perhaps with some sort of saddle bags on it, would be very nice for miners on long trips where they get weighed down fast after finding alot of ore/enmatter. The bigger the mob and classification perhaps the more it can carry.
  2. I would like for certain mobs to have certain special characteristics, only specific to a certain mob. For example one that can track ppl using it’s sensitive nose ( perhaps when we can set bounties on people’s heads this will be useful), and perhaps a mob that has great vision sort of like what an eagle or hawk has to see farther ahead on the radar then we can (it can give us back a basic signal to tell us what is ahead or perhaps we will be telepathically linked with mindforce), etc.

Hopefully there will be lots of things to do with taming

Hm, About the food, i believe that the ped does a certain damage and then “decay” then you have to “repair” it with the food…

Wow…animal taming, if it turns out nicely, is going to be a great profession and addition to the universe. Imagine Caudatergi carrying people’s items for them, or bounding across a desert on the back of an Atrax…

I think it would be great if different animals had different abilities, and varying skills in those - for example, You could ride an Atrax, but it’s not as good to ride on as, say, an Equus. The Atrax would be better for fighting. Other animals could be used as ‘pack animals’ - carrying items across long distances, like revival terminals or loads of minerals after a big HoF. Even others could serve different purposes - for example, tame a Diripi and have it deliver items to another player somewhere else on the continent.

Oh, the possibilities!

i wonder if the animal taming might be like the pokemon thing where you tame them and trap them in a tiny little ball so you can carry them round in your inventory and trade them :poke:

How about… will bigger mobs be able to carry more people? like.. Ride the Ambulimax-bus!
great post

Really good ideas
Never thought of half of them myself… but interesting to ponder and discuss.
Would be neat if pets could evolve as you say. Or if different mobs had different capabilities as pets
:girl:

This may also introduce flying battles, won’t it? Or taming a swarm of flies… So many questions, so little answers. I’d rather see someone on the back of an atrox than in a vehicle. Anyone up for jurassic park? (Idea for treasure island :P)

What about taming mutants? Has anyone mentioned anything about that? Maybe that’s the next stage on the skill-list. But at the same time, some mutants are more clever than others, will they be harder to tame than regular mutants?

I want a foul as a pet. They are so cute! Or a companion, that word would be more political correct than pet when it comes to most mutants.

And walking down thinking lane, reprogramming drones… Okok, I’m way off.

Taming mutants.
Would be useful when large scale mining is introduced. you would need someone to carry all that matter, and machines are expensive. If a mutant dies, just whip some sense into another one. Works slower, but cheaper.

That’s how it works in Xiah online, Lmao.

I actually would reccomend this to people to check out the animal taming. If something similar was brought into PE it would rule!

You can tame an animal and then “catch” the animal in a jar or “sealing mirror”. The weird part about this is now once you’ve done that you can “wear” the animal and gain part of its strengths! Use a Life Jar and you gain 10% of the animals life, use a Life Mirror and you gain 20%! Also works with damage and defense and other stats - Only one at a time though.
This could be hard to balance though.

You can also trade/sell your animals to others who may not be able to tame an animal of that size.
You can name them ( I was running around with a tiger named Liger :stuck_out_tongue: ) and choose from different “AI’s” for your animal. like having it run around and collect items for you while you worry about the killing.
They also level up and have stats and I belive you can give them items to use (similar to diablo 2 hired mercenarys) later on, I never could for any of my animals. No reviving though.. poor Liger. :frowning:
It’s a fun game with some great ideas. I just hope when animal taming comes to PE it amazes the hell out of us!

when taming is implemented I am going to tame a morsusilax :tongue2:
(funny looking rock that waddles)

great stuff ppl, I also have lotsa questions like shinobi, but I guess we can only wait & see..

well i unlocked Animal Taming skill a little while ago, and am skilling it nonstop now, so it better be good!

I wonder, if along the taming line a hacking skill could be imnplimented? I wouldnt mind have a Warrior Gen 05 body guard

pffft Warriors are f0r teh we4k

All your warlocks are belong to me

I could see the equivalent of a caravan accross the desert - except there would be a herd of Cornundos hauling various ores and textiles from Camp Pheonix to Zycion.

I for one want to persue the taming front. There are a lot of possibilities - and who could resist a pet Chirpy of their own anyway? Not I. :wise:

Bah Gruye, you know whats up. I am gonna tame you and force you to sweat for me so I get a endless supply of sweat :tongue2:

It all seems soo interesting, I think it would be awsome to like give a PE friend a gift ‘pet’ for like a special day (birthdays, anniversarrys, christmas). It would be really fun to just run around with a few of the prettier pets. Maybe make a stall for them in your apartment (walk in and be greeted by a pluma wagging its tail like a dog  )
You could perhaps have genders, like a girl :girl: pluma or maybe have stupid plumas :dunce: …yeah you know what I mean. Pick characteristics for it, and depending on the general mobs intelligence perhaps it could have more characterisitics giving it more of a personality.
Just my 2 cents

I would like to be able to sweat my tamed mob, even when sweatcap is reached
