I’ve played all major mmorpgs on dial-up and i’ve never had any real trouble except for loading times are usually longer. I noticed the requirement was broadband. So i’m a bit dissapointed there. Surely this game used to support dial-up back in the days when it was launched. hmmm.
Downloading patches will be no problem i’ll just go over to my friends with a laptop and DL them there.
And for those of you who want to flame me for having dial-up. Well it’s not my fault, there is nothing available out here. And sattelite is hella spendy, slow and unreliable.

Can anyone do a favor and measure your bandwidth in/out inside a populated town, and then do the same measurement outside in the wilderness?

if the broadband doesnt come to you, then move home to a place where they have broadband, problem solved:)
Another dial-er-upp-erer?
I thought “you” people died out a couple of years ago, j/k
Anyways, If you don’t have broadband, Get it asap, It’s worth it, Belive me ;D
I’ve actually tried PE once or twice on Dial-up, Since there was some sort of problem on my regular internet, Anyways, It’s not fun literally ‘walking’ around and lagging as hell and all the time being afraid of connection lost, lol.

Well, I’m pretty sure that when he said it wasn’t available in his area, he meant it.
Thanks for the replies. I will definetly give it a try i’ll just stay away from the big cities.
Unfortunetly, they rolled out DSL to the nearest town (3 miles) just 6 months ago, and my friend who lives half a mile from me is able to get DSL I’m right on the edge and there would be no reason for them to EVER put a DSLAM near me because whats the point for 3 or 4 people?
I am forever with dial-up until this wireless thing takes off. I was reading something about telephone history, and did you know it took 100 years for 90% of the US to have telephone coverage? LOL judging by that i’ll have DSL when you guys have 1000000000GB transfers a millasecond.
Oh and I meant how much bandwidth in/out the game requires. In other games there would be a meter that showed you how much was coming in/out.

Have you looked at cable? Cable isn’t limited by range like DSL is…well yea it is, but you can basically get cable wherever you can get cable television which is almost anywhere now.
Verizon does have wireless broadband as well, but if you can’t get DSL in your area, then you probably won’t be able to get that neither.
Ive been playing a lot using dialup the past 6 months and it works reasonably fine.
The problem come if you go to port atlantis or twin peaks, where its always been a lot of people.
When it come to the claim tha PE never supported dial-up, thats wrong.
Pe supported dialup up untill VU 4.0 i think it was.
According to the PE website dialup is “Not recommended” but not “unsupported”.
Hmm ya i’m having trouble in port atlantis. The game doesn’t give me a chance to really even load the area. It will disconnect me as soon as I start to lag real bad, which makes logging in nearly impossible. I have to move a few feet, get disconnected, move a few more feet log back in until i’m in the wilderness
Do you have a suggestion on a city to go to that isn’t so crowded?
When the robots made their first destruction of satellites thus resulting in loss of attitude control and signal gain, sattellite was destroyed, however dialing in to the robot mainframe was never a problem although loading times were slightly longer than they could have been, this resulted in massive counter=attacks and the deaths of many many humans and robots alike, its confirmed that you can will see why so many bots are on the present forums watching what we do and say to monitor our progress in defending against them and the evils that they attempt to indoctrinate us with, but someday we will rise up to fight robot powers and they will see that truely biology is far superior to technology.

I feel your pain… Been there done that, hated it
Thankfully got DSL early thi year, and been playing on dial-up between dec 2003-feb 2005, so i definatly now what your talking about.
My “home town” during the dial-up year was fort ares for me. Never crowded there, but no storage there though. Could always log in there. But the difficult part playing on dial-up is when your out hunting/mining/exploring or whatever you do. Because dying where you don’t want to die must be avoided at all costs :silly2: happened to me twice during that year. Took me like 2 hours of constant logging in at fort troy before i finally got some distance from the crowded troy to be able to hold connection and get the hell outta there. It was playable if you were cautious. And twice i tp’d by mistake to a crowded place, though was lucky to get out in time.
So, if you just be careful and not die (so you revive in a crowded town) and stay on the country side mostly, and become an mutant out there like i almost did, you’d be fine i believe
