I belive that the thing that takes ram is when the game loads the terrain.
I’m not sure if there is an option to lower how far you can see or something like that, but if there are you could try to lower that.
If there isn’t any option like that, then try to shut down stuff that you dont realy need when playing. Stuff like messenger, IE and other programs eats your RAM.
It’s weird, I shut down everything including explorer itself, and even though I stand at around 100mbram used, and also have alot of virtual memory, it still does not work very well.
Thanks though, I will see if I can find such an option there, hopefully they could implement such a feature for the lower end computers, and maybe the game will gain a few more people.

Hi, I’m playing PE on a computer with 256mbram, although the rest of the computer is not that low (1.5ghz and geforce fx 5200 with 128mb video ram).
I think the game takes too much RAM, and it’s really hard to play it on such a computer, even though everything else is good.
Can anyone give me tips on fine tuning this game so it would work smoothly on such a computer?

Yes put more RAM.
Windows XP doesn’t run completly fine until I put 1Gb of RAM.
256Mb of RAM is what I consider the minimum just to run XP and a few not very demanding applications (for ex. text with Office).
Put RAM and you’ll notice a difference even in windows.
If you don’t have an option to put more RAM or an OS that is less demanding than XP I’d say to read on what services you have on your computer that you don’t need and that are consuming RAM. Make a search on google on services.msc or if you know what you are doing just type that in the “run” of windows startup to start the program.
Uninstall all other programs that you don’t need. If possible make a fresh instalation of wondows and just install what you actually need.
Defrag your hard drives and make a disk cleanup to take old compressed files that empting recicled bin just by itself won’t do.
Erase all unnecessary files that you have in the C: drive or whereever you put the SWAP of windows and keep at least 30% of the disk as Free Space.
If possible change the Swap of windows to your fastest disk.
I don’t mean to be harsh, but 1.5ghz/256ram is kinnda stone age. I believe that minimum requirements to play PE is set at 512, and 1024 recommended. Am I right ? Also graphics card is one of the key things here. CPU doesnt matter so much as RAM and graphics card does. Upgrade your ram and your graphics card and you should be fine.

After getting tired of the lag, ive been checking this myself. i have 512MB running win2k and found that in busy areas im running at 570MB, so im pageing to swap and thus taking a massive performance hit (bear in mind that virtual memory/swap is incredible slow compared to real memory).
So, follow the other advice (esp Archangel if you understand whats hes saying), get more memory and close any other apps. Also go into options in the client, set to 16bit colour and check all the “older cards”. Lower quality graphics = less memory used and should help.
i have revently purchased a new computer and it has what seems like planty of RAM (1gb) but i was wondering if i would be able to run the game with only and intel media accelorator instead of a radeon graphics card

some of them pre-installed video cards are like shared memory.. the worst to use for an game like PE. upgrade them.. I got my card on ebay..
PE can be very resource Hungry and doesn’t appear to be very good at releasing those resources as you play and change areas. It appears that it increases more and more as you change from location to location and this is one of the major problems with the lag i think.
I have 1.5gig of ram, and even on this PE can consume 600mb of Ram. Tested this by leaving my Task Manager running on my 2nd screen while playing.
Thanks, I figured most of the lag was due to players and terrain on screen.
Uhm, just a side question, just don’t want to create a new topic for it:
Is it the truth that to Withdraw money one has to wait 90 days and Pay for the withdrawal process?
P.S: Is withdrawing money through Credit Card the only way? I remember I saw something where you can sign up for something similar to PayPal…
P.S2: I don’t want to play a game and invest money and then not even be able to make any money out of it… And it doesn’t make sense that it would take 90 days.
pc: i had 512mb ram, and i had to wait a LONG time to quit the game after playing a couple of hours
now i upgraded to 1024mb ram, and i have no more problems, also no problems in cities like twins with lots of people =)

Yeah, its because the PC didn’t have enough Ram to free up the Ram that was filled up with the PE game. It ends up thrashing the hard drive like crazy to sort itself out. A real problem that needs to be resolved i think.
I know Ram helps, but that shouldn’t be the answer as not everyone can upgrade that easily or know how to do it that easily.
I can play decently PE but… disabled all heavy effects that create lag ( water) . What you have to do before launching the PE.exe is to disable ALL the unwanted xxxx.exe runinng in backround. Automatic downloaders, schedulers, tools you don’t need and microsoft progs.
Well… consider all textures in your terrain, objects, inventory, weapons, all the sprites and models and all the 3D-transforming everytime someone moves a muscle. The armors and players are smooth surfaces made of many flat surfaces. If you are in viewing range of another player, his client has to load all your carried items, you have to load theirs.
It uses so much ram because it keeps those in memory. You would rather do that than reload them each time you have to.
