This question has probably been asked before but I didnt know what to search for. Are the owners of Internet cafés allowed to download the client and charge people to play it? If I as a customer ask the owner of a café to download the client and charge me for using their computers playing PE, is he doing something wrong?
The condition of use says
License
Participant acknowledges that he or she shall have only a limited, non-exclusive, license to use Project Entropia.
Unless the Internet cafe charged for the downloading of the game (which they can as it uses their bandwidth) and the game-usage (again, they can charge for bandwidth usage, along with admin work setting up ports)
As long as they dont say they are charging for the game itself, then yeah they can charge
Didnt PE player Lady own a Internet Cafe? I ment to have seen some pics of PE-posters in her cafe aswell? PE on the comps too I would assume. But then again, Lady probably knew MA people pretty well
I would see the fee you pay to a internet cafe as a rental for comp and bandwith, not the game itself :dunce:

Alot of online gamers I know playon internet caffes. I myself play from home.
Also think that legally speaking (Based on USA law) its ok for them to charge for members using their services (computer, Bandwith, hell even the darn chair you set on )
but dont think it smart of them charging for PE iteself since it can be hairy at the very least w/o permissioin to do so.
I sent a support case asking about it and also the possible security issue. I’ll keep you posted. But it is not obvious in the EULA what the license says about this. I think it would be in Mindark’s interest to let Internet cafés install the client for free.
There are risks of loosing your account at home to with keyloggers.
Im shure a serious owner of a gaming café don’t want a bad rep.
As far as I know net cafge bussiness they charge for computer time, not some game you play. You can also browse microsoft.com from net cafe, and i bet Bill gates would be mad if he knows that someone charge people for browsing his webpage.
There are Cafes that even have regualr single player and other multi-player games avaulable for use.. they usually charge by the minute, quarter, half or full hour for the use of the machine with internet. the ones that have games you can play tehy have them installed on the computer and you have to get the game disk form the clerk. they usually dont charge to use any specific game due to EULA restrictions but they may require a deposit for the disk so you dont scratch it.
I would see no problem with a cafe that had PE available for its users to play.
If i had the money to start my own cafe i would have it on my systems along with other games available. Would even likely even work out a way with mindark so i can sell ped cards and even offer to sell gold memberships for them.
Of course no matter what if anyone uses cybercafes to log in i would highly reccomend they get a gold membership.
Even with an honest business owner it is possable for knolegebale users to surripitously put in a keylogger, these are public terminals afterall. :wise:
On the other hand some cyber cafes might not allow you to put a client on their machines too. since some may have restrictions on what users can do withthem to save on administration hassle.
In general it is against EULAs to rent software and they can be sued if they do, but there is nothing illegal about renting a machine, internet and selling coffe and pastries wich is where the money is for a cyber cafe..

I am not shure what youre eula says about playing PE on an Internet café. Easiest way would be to ask the owner of an Internet café to install the client and let us play there.
Is this allowed? Can he charge me for playing it? He is charging me for the use of his computers, not to play the game.
And also, is this a security risk using our account info on the comps of an Internet café?

Of course you can play PE from an internet cafe. There is of course always a risk playing any game or doing any internet business involving money on a computer you do not have control over yourself. If you have a gold member card there will be no risk however. The choise and responsibility is your own.

I own an internet cafe, and i do not charge to use the game. I allow people to install the game, but i assume no liability if there is mal-ware on the computers. I strive to keep them clean, but there is always the possibility. I do charge for the use of the computer, but it doesnt matter if they play PE or Battlefield 2. Internet cafes do not charge per game, we charge per hour of computer usage.
