hi guys,
I am new here can anyone help please.. :)
I agree on all points regarding the rules being good, even though I have at times slipped a bit here or there.
That said, I would like to ask about a player that apparently up and dissappeared a bit back. No notice was given in game, and although she was having a âbit of a dissagreementâ with her mentorâs soc, she would generally keep us up on things, both in game, and here in the forum. It is this reason that I believe she may have made a post of this type here, but I donât know.
Technically, a thread about quitting isnât allowed, but how about the âwhatever happened toâ category⌠I wouldnât want to draw any additional ire by starting something here, so can I get a yay or nay on this?
On an unrelated âruleâ (which wasnât explicitly mentioned by MB here), bringing back old threads when the subject comes back up. There are two valid points on this one.
By all means, the previous thread should not be regurgitated in a new one, new information (if there truly is new) should be added. This should be included as a general rule explicitly, provided you allow for the following, that is.
Sometimes the topic itself is about current activity. Whether it is a robot attack on a city, or a question on one of MAâs infamous âdynamicâ changes to PE, the topic really cannot be considered an extension of previous topics (by itâs very nature). References to other threads may be relevant, but thatâs about all.
It is far more appropriate IMHO, to have two shorter threads with distinct topics than one huge monster thread that wanders across a broad spectrum â especially as these threads tend to get sidetracked more. In some cases, the effect is obvious â just take a look at the âfacesâ thread to see how often it devolves into side topics, among itâs 108+ pages⌠Iâm not dissing the thread, mind you, Iâm only pointing out that longer threads make sense only when the topic is well manicured.
Take it from someone with a lot of experience in the area of managing thread activity. Yes, each board has a different tolerance for these things, but you have to allow for a little rehashing and ânear-missâ topics, or suffer from excessive âsame topic (or not)â lecturing and gestapo style responses. This lecturing is a big drag on the users as well. One way to look at it is the old âdonât feed the trollsâ rule, a lecture is only good if they are listening, and indeed, if you have something new to add to the topic.
Bottom line: Iâm only asking that some common sense be applied (i.e., the answer to the âwhatever happened toâ topics appears rather obvious, yet there are some that might dissagree).
Either way, good job MB, for explicitly laying rules down.

Bump
Iâm reading these rules and Iâve got a thing to ask.
What's the punishment? :dunno:
Or rather, whatâs the system for punishment? Can I get three warnings and then a permanent ban if I do something stupid withing XX weeks again?
For example, just out of the blue, say someone insults MindArk by writing, in capital letters - size 7, **** you, MindArk or the sort form **, MA; What sort of punishment will this earn him or her?... (Not even counting the editing of the post or posts in question, of course.)
Edit: And does number of posts/fame or reputation on forum bend the rules in favor of the wrongdoer?

It has happened that someone used very bad language towards MA/Marco and got permban without warning.
As for overall forum rules not just about MAâŚ
There is no set punishment, it is based on a per case situation, sometimes ppl get a warning, or a few days tempban, maybe a week or two tempban, or simply a permban eventhough the person got no warning, it all depends on the situation.

So basicly itâs all about whichever mood the admin/moderator (dunno if itâs only admin who can give out punishments) is in, at the moment.

As MB said ⌠itâs on a per case situation. There are different variables involved that determine which way a situation goes and has nothing to do with what mood weâre in.
Assessing behavior at this forum is an objective process ⌠for instance ⌠if someone was using a lot of foul language but it wasnât necessarily directed at any one person, then that individual might get a warning to clean it up. However, if that person was extremely rude and flaming within a thread or several threads consistently, then it most likely would bring on a temporary ban. If the person continued the behavior after the ban was lifted, then it could lead to a more serious action such as permanent banning.
Certain rules of this forum are cut and dried, such as no discussion about other games, or advertising IRL items, while actions that pertain to behaviors involve variables that require individual assessment.
Hope that answers your question more clearly.
So what it permissible?
I recently had some posts edited in the King/scammer thread. Now I sounded pretty pissed off Iâm sure, but I didnât use any foul language, not according to my own standard anyway.
âScumâ, is that over the line? âTrashâ? I remember using piece of sh*t (with an âiâ), I can imagine you didnât like that?
Do you have a list of words that are âverbotenâ? I would prefer to write posts you felt no need to edit, but obviously, common sense is insufficient here ![]()
Please elaborate.

I already deleted the content of your last post in your referenced thread and left my own msg to you so that you could see why I deleted it.
Itâs not just about âfoul languageâ but the meaning of the content of your posts. The rules are not hard to understand, so I donât know why youâre having such a challenge with them.
Read my comments in the other thread, perhaps that will help clear it up a bit.
Maybe there should ne some guidelines concerning the Hall of Fame section of the forum, especially concerning âsilentsâ and uberloots
When is it allowed to post there, i detect a tendency that more and more people are posting their regular loots with a market value over 50 PEDâs there

You didnât answer my question. Which is significant. And I didnât threaten anyone.
the king thread has struck a nerve with me too
i know its been highly edited and now is locked. I do have a problem with seeing the thread get shorted each time i check due to heavy modding. i do understand the reasons tho
its not a criticism of the mods, but from my point of view when having a open and frank conversation with a scammer it doesn not help to be editing and changing what has been said. kinda makes me paraniod, i think maybe its the subject that has done that. but when content is edited and posts removed in that wauy i start to think, why? maybe king is also a mod here? ⌠and the paranoia wave starts again
but i also dont get why the post was locked, if everything offensive has already been edited out, why not let it run? well thats ur call, but the preaching that goes with locking atm needs to be sorted out.
its a unique thread, how often do ppl get the chance to talk to the scammer that ripped them off? i dont think its in the same league as âoh i got 20% loot back moan moan moanâ
i understand there are rules, but there is also common sense and in the case of this thread imo common sense would be to let it run due to its unique nature. ppl who have lost irl cash no longer have the opportunity to talk to the thief that targeted them
again i have no probs with the modding, its a tough task that frankly i couldnt do, but theres a page and a half of mods backing each other up discussing what can and cant be done in that thread⌠that in itself has pulled the thread of topic
yet another sensible reply from LT.. I think maybe MB should rethink the moderation on these boards.. or at least choice of some of the moderators. I moderate a fairly popular board myself and I know itâs sometimes difficult to run a line between what is acceptable and what is not.
Freedom of speech is severely being curtailed here, heavy moderation is really starting to stunt the creativity and intelligent debate. The âI am moderator and therefore GOD approachâ doesnât wash. Any post that appears to be even slightly infringement of rules is deleted.. and all this
"discussion of this subject ENDS HERE
"
really gets my goat.
We have a forum to discuss things.. not just for constant moderator back slapping and ego boosting.
We are not children, but it seems like we are treated as such.
VV
I vote LT for Moderator!!!
(PS. Moderators are like politicians - anyone who wants to be one, shouldnât be allowed).
I just read the last few pages of the âkingâ thread and i have question to the moderators!
Most of the posts seem to be on topic and constructive. Obviously from the edits a few people were making threats but they seemed few and because of them the thread was locked. So the few spoil it for the majority.
Instead of locking the thread why donât you issue bans to the spoilers?

are you serious? I mean, you really think we edit away irl threats since âking is a moderator hereâ? or something? First of all, there are only four mods; Me, MB, MS9 and Kjetil. And Marco has mod powers aswell.
If you really think that none of us are that trustable to do our job, or that you have such a paranoia that you acctually think that we support a scammer you should really just ..go away. And maybe find a forum where there are moderators you trust. Or perhaps you should do something about your paranoia.
Really, that comment there pissed me off.

The two answers I made about the rules were both ended with âthis rules-discussion ends here.â

Us regular moderators dont have the power to ban. Only MindBuster have. So that would mean that we have to be stuck to the screen editing away everything offensive that pops up until MB gets on and places some bans.
However, most of the people doing the offensive posting in that thread, we to a degree understand. They are mad, with good reason, and they will cool down at a point. Saying things that are a bit harsh. ofc if they keep on breaking the rules we will ask MB to ban, yea..

Freedom of speech is a silly thing to use as a argument when it comes to breaking the rules.
And if any of you acctually think we took this job bc of popularity or âbeeing godâ.
Well, I took this job because I was asked, and I love EF.
I knew very well that I would probably loose some âpopularity-pointsâ by taking this job, since people seem to often direct the anger at moderators.
I understand that some of you (alot of you) find it exciting and fun to be flaming eachother, and find nothing more intriguing then a troll. However that is not what this forum is about. It is about DISCUSSING, yes. Its not a battlefield.

I didnt realise you couldnât ban. i also agree that its not a battle ground and post should be constructive to the thread, far to often its taken off topic and flaming starts.
Can threads be unlocked? maybe if the culprits who turn interesting and informative threads into flame wars and are in breach of forum rules could then be banned then threads reopened so the rest of us can continue the thread? Might seem like alot of work but it will only take a few people being banned for the rest of us to realise whats acceptable etc. Just a thought ![]()

Often we unlock a thread when the masses have cooled down a little and thought about a few things, or a few bans added. so yes -its fully possible to unlock a thread again ![]()
I notice Skam defending a lot, and not going into the actual questions asked. Where exactly are the limits? In detail, choice of words, etc.
I do think (some of) the modâs have developed a blind spot. Their judgment is not subject to debate (and in the literal sense, indeed it isnât!). I agree with Vaughn that the level of censorship is starting to inhibit healthy debate.
And Skamâs arrogance in then declaring âJust go awayâ doesnât help. What youâre saying in effect is this: âWe might be wrong or right, but it doesnât matter, weâll do and say what we please, and if you donât like it, go awayâ.
MB has decided this is a moderated forum. Period. There are rules, and if they are broken, he and his mods intervene.
But the rules are not all black and white, and the intervention not consistent. So apart from clear cut cases like severe abuse where no one is in any doubt, weâre kinda left hung out to dry.
So more precise info on what constitutes abuse, threats, etc would be much appreciated.
