Noob Miner Needs Uber Advice!

Hi there…
I am a hunter 2.4k LB , 700 Rifle … but the hunt with the 7.8 VU is not more as fun as before…
That’s why i started a little Mining while i was hunting… My ex- Mentor told me some infos about mining… Like , look the mobs and then start probing around… Many many questions came in my mind cause 70% of his advices were right and i ended up with a 90% in ore/en-matters which i think is great for a noob miner like me!

Now i come to the point… i need some help, only experienced - ubers might know how to help me… i was reading the last 5-6 hours guides and stats, mining methods, etc but i stil have many questions.

I wish someone helps out, me and the entire mining comunity who would like to know !

i’ll put it down in numbers. That would help me ( my English sucks) and you who can help by refering in numbers

  1. How much is the 50 M distance by walking in a plain terain?
  2. Does the coords reffer in meters? Like 22000 , 11000 mean xxx ad yyy meters from the 0,0 point ( begininng f the axes x,y) . If yes , finding the distane will be easy.
  3. Explain what the Prospecting, surveying , geology skills mean. ( i was informed that prospecting = after 20 secs runing hit a probe, surveying = in 5-10 m distance throw a bomb) i tried those but not all the time ore came out near the en-matter
  4. Should i try bomb after Finding En.matter near the En-M Rod ( i first throw a probe before bomb …to waste less peds)
  5. In which level of what skill should i change equip? i now have the TT equip.
  6. Should i try only probes as a noob? And if i do only probes… will the skilling gonna help finding Ores later?
  7. Does the number of mobs around gives an idea of the deposit? ( more mobs = more bigger deposit? )
  8. i noticed that if the mobs have no loot or really poor (1-30 pec) i hit a deposit bigger than the areas the mob had a good loot (2-10 ped)

Some of the questions are silly because of my ignorance but i think are questions worth to take 2-3 mins to write down an answer.

Ty in advance… Hope someone has a lot of knowledge to share it with us! :wise:

When you reach the end of your learning period, upgrade to OreFinder-101 and MatterDetector-101, and when you reach the end in those tools, upgrade to 102 .

Thanks for the info

I see that no one here willing to reveal any information…
Am i asking where you found a gigantic deposit? NO! Just ask some help to become better miner!

number two - yes it is in meters - latitude increases from west to east and longitude increases from south to north - very easy to test - experiment by walking a few meters from a spot hit your “p” key and note the change in the number.

  1. When you find a deposit, don’t claim it right away, measure with your detector how far is 100m and then run to that point to claim. (I think you are referring for blast radius?)

  2. You get surveying for probing and prospecting for bombing. They help you to find more deeper deposits. Not sure how geology affects

  3. It depends, Myself when I mined, I did use another probe after claiming one (before extracting that one) deposit.

  4. hmm, tough question. I would be cheaper to start with EnMatters and the skills will help later on when you start prospecting (Geology, Percpection) BUT like to mine ores is more expensive, ore deposits are usually bigger than EnMatters.

  5. I think it’s like this: Stronger mobs = less ppl visited the place, therefore more deposits. I think that Deposits size is somehow random.

Hope this helps a little

  1. Great Idea !! But i think i can now count how many secs is a distance of x metters… while the coords are in meters…its easy! walk only N and keep presing the “P” button wile counting. After that is an easy task to any direction too put aother probe/bomb.

  2. OK!

  3. ok … so i can see the “vein” direction right?

  4. Is what i’ll do!

  5. keep that in mind!

TY! Allow me to +rep you for clarifing some important questions for me!

  1. answered in a prior post.

  2. The more you mine you will definitely get a feel for distances even moving diagonal such as NE or SE etc. I would leave a claim marker up or get a point of reference from the landscape (ie trees, rocks, etc) if you dont want to hit “P” all the time.

  3. Prospecting will help with ore, Survery will help with enmatter, Geology is a shared skill I think it helps both. Many miners have different theories on what skill gain means in relation to mining. I think since the upgrades they have changed a bit.
My personal theory is when gaining these skills after you drop a bomb whether you detect a deposit or not:
prospecting-means you are in or near an ore field.
surveying-in or near an enmatter field.
geology-beginning or ending of a vein (I don’t think this applys since the upgrade since it seems really random now)
intelligence-ore/enmatter deposit is part of a vein or cluster.
    mining-helps you pull more stones
    drilling-helps you pull more enmatter
Perception or Serendipity(once serendipity is over 1K)-seems to suggest a larger than avg deposit is nearby it also seems to indicate that a large field of small deposits is nearby too. Sometimes you won’t find a large dep and that can mean either your skills are high enough to find it or it was a bunch of smaller deposits.
You can make your own conclusions on this when you gain more experience.

  4. I have found since the upgrade that I find more stacked and clustered ore/enmatter but this may depend on skill and tool used. Double bombing can be effective but you will get the feel for it as you progress.

  5. Since mining equipment will give you a skill bonus I would go up to the next level just to get the bonus. This might mean you will not use the tool as effectively but your skills will raise faster to help compensate for it.

  6. If you don’t have a lot of ped to waste enmatter is good for a start but you will want to do both at first just to gain both sets of skills. Traditionally ore(more variation in ores used alot in crafting) will sell better than enmatter(not as much variation and more common) When I started I would spend equal amounts on bombs and probes this way I could track my findings.

  7. I don’t think the amount of mobs in a given area determine the deposit sizes it would just mean its harder for someone who is strictly a miner to mine there. Most of my big deposits I have found have been well away from large spawns.

  8. I am not sure if the mob and mining loot pools are tied in. Maybe I have yet to really investigate this.

Otherwise good luck and welcome to mining. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or reply to this post
