New Shop Concept. Thoughts?

Ok, after reading the different threads on various things from greedy resellers, to scammers and market prices, i didn’t really know where this would fit in, so thought i would create a new thread and try and get some ideas on this idea. If it has already been discussed, thought of etc, sorry in advance and MB can delete or merge the thread.

What is needed is a way to solve the problems on all sides of the fence and keep better track of what people are buying and selling and hopefully prevent scamming and at the same time improve overall server performance and get more people out enjoying the game.

Here are my thoughts. Excuse the way it is put together, and I hope it makes some sort of sense.

The 1 Ped auction fee, just doesn’t work for small amounts of ore’s/enmatters or cheap tools/weapons etc. By the time you have spent that ped, you have cut into your profit margin straight away. This is when the reseller comes in handy. If you have a bunch of 1 of items/ores/enmatters etc that you just don’t need littering your storage, resellers will buy these and make a gamble they can make a profit on them, or they know someone who will buy them for crafting at a fare price.

If, like we are seeing in the auctions, prices are just being pushed up out of all proportion to what the real value of the item should be, except for some Uber items, although I think some of those have gone up to obscene prices lately(but then it is what people are prepared to pay for them?), then this is where something needs to be brought in to combat this.

To get rid of the obscene and greedy market place, and hopefully try and get rid of scamming altogether, people are only allowed to buy and sell through some kind of shop or the auction. These shops can be rented out from MA, or even a player that has bought the freehold to these shops, much like an Apartment is on a monthly basis.(Reason for this will become clear shortly)

However, all these shops are linked through a central network of terminals that players can access much like the Auction. The details on these terminals will show you figures of what current market trends are, graphs etc. From this, people can also determine who the best people to deal with are based on there trading prices/percentages and also what people have to offer in return to buy.

However, seeing as there is a rental on the shop, this could in turn be tied into what sort of percentages you are charging people for buying or selling items, and this percentage profit is put back into the gaming loot pool if paid direct to MA, or half and half if paid to a player who has bought these shops(Much like a land or mining tax?)
So all those that are being ripped off by the overpriced items, have a way to gaining a decent return in the loot pool when either hunting/mining or crafting as these 3 activities in some way, use all the items that are traded to a degree.

This is when the rental comes into its own. The people that are overcharging are actually paying through the roof to rent there shop and if people are not buying there goods, they can no longer do business or feel the expense of doing business in this manner, as it is too costly. Also, to run this shop, you need a level of funds in the shop to be able to purchase goods at the percentage prices you have already set. In a way, it is sort of an auto system, where people don’t need to be standing around and spamming the hell out of the servers. All you need to do is check up on the shop from time to time to make sure everything is working ok.

Obviously, being noob players, they can’t just start selling straight away for free, as has been discussed, this is where they start bragging about them being able to do this and that for free. They actually have to spend money to make money. Think about it, in real life you can’t start a shop without any money, so why shouldn’t it be the same in PE.

The free part of PE in my mind, is the ability to start for free without any monthly subscriptions. If you wish to start making money, then you have the sweating option. That is it. If you wish to progress further, then you need to prove you can. This in itself would kill of a lot of scamming because those that scam more often than not have no money or ability to to deposit to begin with.

Bear in mind, this is just an idea, but hopefully one that others can improve on or think about and not just flame as a market killer, etc etc, because as the market stands, it can be very hard to make any sort of viable return on your efforts.

Overall, I hope this sort of idea might actually make the whole game a better experience for people. Scamming would hopefully not exist, market greed would take a down turn, servers would have a breather from being hammered and hopefully overall Lag would improve.

Oh, and for those that think, what about if I want to give a gift to someone. If it’s a gift, there would be a gift option that exchanges no peds. This would on most occasions be for those that are lending something to say friends or Mentors who are giving cheap items to get a noob started.

Skills would also be run in a very similar manner. As we have seen, GSI’s are dropping in price drastically, so do we really need those anymore. Would it not be better for some sort of skill deposit center. Leave the price of the GSI in the loot pool or turn it into a Skill Token that can be sold to use at the Skill Terminal, and make those that wish to buy or sell skills use the terminals. Another scamming ploy diverted.

There is probably more that could be thought of and added, but i would think this is already quite long.

Discuss and give your opinions. If all you are going to do is say it’s a shit idea, then sometimes, you have to wonder if it’s worth saying anything at all.

I dunno, I want a super mega shopping mall with hundreds of player run stores…I’m tired of browsing the auctions or running all over bejeezus to find the right pair of shoes =P ever try shopping TI? you know what I mean.

How about we level Hadesheim south and build a huge shopping mall?

hows that for off topic?

Lots of good ideas in this thread, I like the idea of leveling hadesheim south, but I also wouldn’t want it to turn into anothe port laglantis.

p.s. the trends we’re seeing are part of any normal market. If buyers are paying outrageous prices then theres no reason for a seller to lower them. Doesn’t make it ethical, but it is quite typical of an open economy.

I think it would already help if the auctions were separated, so you would have one for tools and items for each profession, Hunting, Mining, Tailoring ans Crafting, and maybe a central resource auction for ores and enmatter, skins, bones, ect…

The auctions would be a lot less confusing.

I think it might be simpler for them to just let us sort the auctions however we see fit. instead of just by expiration date. I personaly like the tree based one stop shop auctioneers, but I hate that we can’t sort at all.

WOH! good ideas you gave me a GREAT idea all together it needs a new post though. as it’s a bit off topic.

But Essentially what i think we need are a couple differen types of Shopkeepers. I think there should be say and Advanced Model that will aslo buy Ores at a perticular Price and re-sell them also at a price with little maintance realy except shopkeeper repair.

Oh good, you saved me typing up an essay on this very subject.

The 1 Ped aution fee needs to go if the low end economy is to work as well as it should. At the moment, i just TT most loots from hunting as its just not worth putting 0.3ped goblin shin armour in the auction, risking 1ped to sell for a loss of 0.70 if at all (set the start to 2ped will definatly see no sale). And with other stuff like ores or hides you have to hold on to it until youve collected enough to have a stack big enough thats worth tt+1. The best solution would be a sales tax, say 1% on the sale of an item. I know the sellers of more expensive items will moan about that, but then it will be biult into the prices, so they wont actually loose out at all.

As for shops, i would definatly like to see some sort of more involved shop front system that allows me to request for goods as well as sell them. But i dont think shops should have any decay or rent, reverting instead to the sales tax model. People will knock this idea as encouraging resellers, and thats true. But if everyone can cheaply and easily become a reseller, then i believe the excesses can be taken out of the sytem by market pressure.

Id like to make the point that you will never, ever remove resellers. And if you did the economy would collapse as most people wouldnt have the time to sell in the street and craft/mine/hunt. We need some resellers. And the only people to fault when prices go sky high are people prepared to pay stupid amounts of peds for items. So really the problems associated with resellers are a supply side issue, which will be the subject of my next essay

I like the mall idea but MA would have to do something about curbing lag there. Currently the shopkeeper areas at Hades and N atlas are lag prone but you can find good deals at both and don’t have to spend all day looking. Maybe in the next year we can look to improvements of the systems MA already has in place. I think the order system on the current auction is good but I don’t know how many people use it. Maybe having that order system not entirely tied to the auction system would be a good thing well at least for bulk items. I think that would make it easier to search and could possibley open up the market on skill crafting items such as Jester D-1s or other tradition TT food.
