Alright I was thinking about this for a few days now, trying to figure out the problems/benefits associated with my idea …
So please don’t be shy and tell me if you see any problems regarding this…
Lottery. We have them IRL, so why not a PE lottery? Here’s what I thought of.
Starting pot would be something small like 1000 PED
Each entry would cost 1 PED
Now this is where the problems creep up.
a) How do I keep track? Well, there’s spreadsheets for this kind of thing.
b) How do I know you’re not a scammer? Make it really public … announce winner here on EF, take a few screenies of the winner, etc.
c) What’s your take? Well, the first 1000 PED would be of course out of my pocket. Now, anything that suprasses 1000 PED (meaning I’d get my moolah back), I’d take 3% of that, and the rest would go to the pot … so … until I get at least 1000 entries I lose on the deal.
d) How do you pick a winner? Each entry will be tagged with a random number, and each lottery will defiantely result in a winner.
This could be a monthly event, (or if there’s a lot of interest a wekly one).
Question … how does this benefit the organizer?
Alrighty this is waht I’m talking about …
Initial pot = 1000 PED
Let’s say 1250 people decide to play and they each deposit 1 PED
Now, I’d want my money back … so the excess would be 250 PED
From that I take 3% which equals 7.5 PED
Therefore if 1250 people play @ 1 PED the total winnings would be 1242.5 PED
So that’s my idea, and now you can all flame me, or give me pointers on why this would not work
Hmmm, must be somewhere in the EULA … can someone find it? I’m at work and blah blah blah … but if it’s not allowed .. then DAMNIT!!! :D:D:D
Thanks for the quick reply
would be cool, kinda curious what you would use as your random number generator… I mean the one that comes up to say who won…
aside from what Einstien said, I would want to know that you were not actually participating in the lottery, just organising it… if you won well you can imagine the perception of that situation…

Well of course I would not participate. That’s why the organizer would get 3% of the excess.
As for picking a winner … it’s be as easy as my little blindfolded son choosing a number at random from a list by playing “Pin the tail on the number”.
Seriously though … Excel can do it easily … Just make an algorythm that uses the RAND function a few times and make it stop once it hits a number on the lottery list
You have to use the RAND function a few time to increase randomness because face it … even random numbers generated by a program aren’t “exactly random” .. they follow a formula
