This is about as seriouse as I get sence it’s gonna cost me money
I want to start a IRC network strictly for PE players, not affiiliated with another gaming network.
I feel PE players are a unique breed, I mean we are a different animal, I think everyone will agree about this.
Stratics simply and plainly does not know how to deal with us. So we get kicked or banned or talked to badly and so on. That is NOT a place for us!
Soon I am going to purchace an IRCd and a domain name (suggestions welcome) and talk to a friend of mine who is uber IRC geek and know just about everything when it comes to IRC servers.
Once I have everything setup all I need is YOU guys The community to make it work, with OUT you it is a hopeless endeavore. But I HAVE to try it wether it works or not!
All suggestions and comments are welcome please I need insight.
And I hope to make it great enough MA will consider it the official IRC network in time. yea yea I know, I’m only hoping

And it will be run by only players who know the game and IRC commands well.

I completely agree with ya… as you know I’ve had a few encounters myself with irc and stratics ppl :rolleyes:
Id say.. go for it.. but you need the support of the vast majority of the community.. also look into the possibility of CL announcment and prehaps ingame announcment

Sounds like a good idea Faus! Be sure to tell me if you ever have any problems on the Stratics channel, I can hopefully help you out.

the bar idea is cool, and you should make some kinda ruleset, basic ones, i tried running an IRC channel of my own too dedicated to pe, but some ppl from the pe community no names would come there and spam the shit out of the channel, just cuz i refused to have ops and tried proving that even without enforcing rules strictly its possible to have fun, so it got killed
This would work best if you allow mindark reps to be IrcOps and set server policy. At Stratics they’re pretty much at the mercy of the startics admins, and quite frankly alot of them seem quite… inexperienced.
It would be great to have a real ircnetwork setup for PE, but it would only be popular if Marco and Lars are at it. And it would be ideal if both of them left Stratics for the new network.

An irc network for just PE wouldn’t require tons of bandwith. Heck a dialup account could support a couple hundred logins.. A hosted IRCd would of course be T1+ so that isn’t really an issue.
Ideally you’d want to get a colocated box at a ISP that is going to stay arround a long time ( www.rackspace.com or something similar). Kinda expensive, but you’ll never have to worry about the ISP shutting down like alot of the fly-by-night cheap hosting services arround irc.

I swear they have already i havn’t seen either them online and if they are not for very long not like before.
