New guy here, 'ello

Yeah, I jsut finished the DL tonite and started playing. Made .82 peds and am keeping the rest of my sweat, a hundred and some. Got a 5 in sweat gathering, as well as some misc 1s or 2s in things like courage and agility. Not too bad of a start imo.

Anyways, Figured I’d introduce myself and whatnot.

TheGoodDoctor Nicholi Rasmuson, at your service.

I’m going to be paying in, depositing, but I’ve got some questions as far as gear.

I was wondering if there is a comprehensive list for gear(weapons, armor, mining, and all that), and what requirements there are? Or a well detailed guide. I tried a couple searches on these forums, but I get far too many results, for not knowing the game terminology at all.

The other question that I have, since i’ve seen some people fighting monsters right out side of the starter port…can’t remember it’s name right now…but they’re taking an aweful lot of hits to kill these things.

As a noob, is loot/repair ratio going to be worth getting weapons/armor to start?

To reword, will I be able to make a profit, after everything is repaired, by killing at noob levels. OR Will loot more than pay for repairs, at my level.

Will I have to(or read: should I) keep skilling and sweating for a bit to make the repair costs go down?

I would like to say thanks for all the noob guides, I’m being as thorough as I can, but when it’s all forum shaped, multitudes pop up during a search. Call me lazy if you will, but IMO this game has enough vocabulary to choke a horse, and some of the guides, while with good intentions, are a bit hard to understand. That makes reading through all of the search results more work than it’s worth. A lexicon with pics would be nice. Can’t find anything like that on PE’s site.

Anyways, I’m rambling cause it’s late, which is also why I don’t want to read a buttload of posts. I’m a quick learner, though, and I’ll greatly appreciate any help I get. PM’s welcome.

PS, is there no facial hair in the future?

What’s up Doc? :silly2: welcome to the world of Calypso

I haven’t been here too long myself, but I’ve learned a couple things you may find helpful
First off you’re looking for a chart reflecting the different aromour and stuff? Check this site out, it’s fairly easy to understand and pretty comprehensive:
http://www.pe-wiki.info/

You’ll find that in the beginning, even if you buy the most expensive guns, you won’t be doing a whole lot of damage… That’s because your skill levels will be way too low.. So, just get yourself a cheap n00b gun… I think that the Solomate Opalo is a good rifle to start with, and the TT (Trade Terminal) pistol is okay, but not too great imo.

Neither of these weapons will do much damage, so you’ll find that you’re only effective in hunting the small mobs, like snablesnot male young, I like to hunt those ones, they’re easy kills, and I’ve been relatively lucky in getting loot from them.
These guns are good ones to get your skill up, and you’ll find that after little time, you’re doing decent damage against the small mobs. Once you’ve mastered these guns, and are consistently doing the maximum damages that these guns are capable of, then it may be time to upgrade your guns.

This advice also applies to melee weapons as well.. start with the n00b stuff and as your skill progresses, upgrade.

As far as loot goes… I consider myself lucky if I’ve managed to break even on my hunts. The money received often pays for my ammo used, and any other drops (skins, hides, armour parts etc..) pay for the decay to the weapons used. Getting a HoF (Hall of Fame) loot is mainly a matter of chance rather than skill, if you hunt a LOT you will eventually get a big loot  Then again, you may get lucky, a friend of mine who just started a couple weeks ago hit a HoF loot of 163 PEDs, pretty cool for having just started (he’s happy  )

Don’t count on getting lucky like that though, work on your skills, sweat your ass off, it’s free money, and take your time through the game. By playing smart you can get away with either not depositing, or only depositing small amounts.. Oh and just a piece of advice, if you have armour, and are doing something that doesn’t require it, like sweating, or TP running, then don’t bother wearing it, it costs money if it gets damaged, and dying is free

If you See me ingame, gimme a shout, I’ll show you some of the tricks i’ve learned

PS: i don’t know about beards but a friend of mine seems to have some stubble… though maybe he’s just dirty

Heya! and Welcome to Calypso!

well I see Prof answered alot of your questions, I thought I would insert that instead of startin with forum searches go to the “Sticky” forum and the “Noobie” Forum those were my primary sources for information my first week (15 days in and counting) and I think I got a huge leg up because of those posts in my first 2 or 3 days… I would also like to recommend (take it or leave it) that you not buy armor until you are familiar with Trade Practices (ie. TT+4 = item current value + 4 ped {400pec} ~shown in teh trade screens during a Player to player trade) and with the protection types (stab, cold, burn etc… ) I would recommend this same thing with weapon purchase.

Hope you enjoy the game, if you see me runnin by feel free to ping/yell/mesage me, I will help anyway I can

Welcome to PE

There is so much to this game, pluas they do change little things in it with version updates so there is always something to learn.

IMO the best way to learn is to play. I belive people willlearn alot more and better if they experience it as opposed to reading bunch o manuals. Dont get me wrong they are the best help, but I think alot is to be said for trial and error. Natural human learning

You are a member of EF and I think your in the right road. Keep and open mind and most importantly, this is a game, HAVE FUN :tongue2:

Nicholi like prof said get a sollomate opalo from the Trade Terminal it’s the little blue thing that sticks to the wall go to weapons rifle and drag the sollomate opalo into the left box. Drag your PE card (that holds all your money) into the right box but make sure you have 3.8 PEDs + money for ammo (1 PED for 100 ammo). Second find a mentor that should show u how to use your sollomate opalo and where to sweat. Don’t just pick 1 because they could just be in it for the item(those mentors probobly won’t help you) that they get after you finish disciplehood. Your mentor should show you around and help you get some TPs. Once all this is done your mentor should help you decide what to do next. Also don’t expect to profit with the maxed out opalo u should be able to break even most of the time.

Also… the opalo doesn’t do much damage, but its good for low level’s like nicholi cause it helps skills more and better ammo usage. SO i would reccomend it for you 100%.. :yup: also just for the info.. PEC = Project Entropia Cents, PED = Project Entropia Dollars.. just so you know..

Thanks for all the replies. I did peek through the stickies and read as much as I could stand. Someone posted that noobies should HAVE to read them before playing the game. I hope that I got to that post I’m qualified to play.

More importantly, my questions were answered, and that’s a pretty big deal since I’m sure they weren’t the norm. I’m just going to keep sweating for a few days, a couple hours at a time I suppose. The help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Good luck in PE. And Welcome

Hi and welcome to the madness!

I agree 100% with pretty much what everyone else has said but I would also suggest to get yourself a mentor…but tread carefully as there are people out there who don’t want to help, just get a free gift. I applied to the School of Lootius which is a mentoring section of the Church of Lootius..I ave a wonderful Mentor and have met alot of very nice, helpful people..Do a search on the forum for Sol or School of Lootius for more info…A mentor is a huge help when learning the ropes as it were…
