I cant find the thread, But I remember someone saying that MA would be upgrading the Game Engine for Project Entropia. Was this ever confirmed by anyone offical at MA, or was it just rumor?
If so, what would be the features that would accompany such an upgrade?
And I know MA peeps are busy with Crafting/mining VU, but would be nice to have another udate of where they plan on taking this game in the near and distant future. Has the roadmap changed ?
It was never confirmed by ma as far as I know. It was speculated because marco said one thing was to come, that all would like, and around that time Gamebryo made v2.0 official. So we know the engines has a newer version out, I think it’s just a matter of time, and money.
With two dev-teams working on pe, maybe one of them has the engine as main goal, while the other has features.
Just a quick note. Go to NDL site and there is no mention of PE. No where at all. I would imagine the MA has more than on or two licenses, and I’m sure they pay every year…just intresting.

Not everyone wants to be on such lists, and it might cost hellofalot to be on such lists, so I don’t think that’s the way to think.
And, maybe MA has switched to another enging. Havok anyone ,)

new game engine would be so f-ing sweet. ya right, like they would actually use something totally amazing like the havok engine.
PE is an expensive game, so the people playing it more than likely have a reasonably good computer, so there is no reason to cater to the lowest common denominator of users with low end graphics and what not.
bring on the better engine, better graphics, better everything…
I agree that gamebryo 2.0 or havok engine would look sweet in pe but didn’t they recently get a new engine? I heard that the engine was more of a technical thing than graphic wise. But before ma does any major things to the engine i think they need to focus on bugs and server speed to counter act the lag most of us get.

youre probably right. a new engine would only be half the battle, i think implementation of the engine is a lot of it. PE takes more resources than most other games, and i think thats because its not built as well as some other other games are. thats not a knock against MA, maybe they just dont have the most talented people working on it. but since they have two dev teams now, maybe we will see more tweaking of the game to improve performance.
Can someone explain why its the same game engine, but its different fps in different places?
Is it becuase different parts of the map are supported by different servers ? I love going to amethera, but lag I too lag there quite a bit - also some places on eudoria.
LAG SUCKS! MA FIX THE LAG! Puuulllleeeeeeeaaaazzzzzzzzz! Whatever the reason is, I must have made a sizable financial contribution to fund purchasing the solution!
Someone once mentioned a way to tell if it was your Client ot the server that was laging but I don’t remember the details now. I would like to know for future reference if someone can explain.
I’m somewhat technical, but I know business apps. I’m not knowledgeable about game apps - but interested since I got involved in PE. Does anyone have any good game reference materials to brush up on the subject?
I’m courious how folks are counting actual fps on PE? what utility are you using?.
The easiest way To see if its a client or server lag issue, is to add another 512MB/1GB of memory to your system. if you notice a big increase in speed and reduction in lag, then its client side lag.. Most systems out there suffer from client side lag, then next big offender is communication lag, then server.
The reverse of the above is also true… If you have a “good” system already, try reducing memory by opening a few other memory hungry apps, if your PE system slows considerable then your limited memory is a major cause of lag, another major couse is slow harddrives (used for virtual memory).

Cant say for certian about PE but fps decrease is usually caused by the textures(ground, etc), models/mesh(flowers,trees), and/or polygons (mountians/structures/geography)that make up the map(area) you are running around on.
edit… the slower the computer or net connection the more effect these have clientside.
…have made more than a few maps for FPS games ( first person shooter ).
