Need help: Can you actually make money hunting?

Well, i’ve been hunting a few days, i’ve tried many spots, hunted many things, and it can all pretty much be summed up in a hunt i recorded.

KEY: in PECs

-10 -20 -10 -2 (misfire) -16 -22 -18

+20 + 18 +4 +3

*Paint (1 unit)

–2 Pecs a shot–

I can’t seem to make money, I manage to find things here and there, and sell some stuff, but i’m loosing money, i can’t even get off the ground and at this rate, i don’t see how it’s humanly possible to go any further in this game, when the game refuses to let you earn money.

The only real way to earn money, it seems, is being a trader…

ANY help, will be much apreciated.

:frowning:

yeah, if you’re a gamer, chances of making $ at this game is pretty slim…be better off scratching lottery tickets.

PE needs patience and phat VISA* to be able to make some profit. gl.

[size=1]*you can use alternatively Amex, Diners Club, Master Card

Can you make money hunting… I don’t know…

can I make money hunting ? Def not…

short answer is no you can’t.. unless you get lucky… and in the long term even if you do get lucky you will lose it.. :frowning:

Hunting right now will not make you profits.. sorry to say..

So if you do go hunt, do it for the fun only.. and expectte to spend and lose money.

One of my soceity members got an ath for like 15k.. was just telling me its all gone from hunting .. his whole ath spent… so even if you do get lucky with an ath.. sooner or latter its going to be spent if you hunt…

How to make money? Well be like some people - I wanted to buy a gremlin armor face plate that showed up on latest entries a few hours ago at tt+50 buyout. Before I could buy it, it was gone only to be relisted seconds later at a +105 buyout - it’s still there probably waiting for someone to spend that amount of peds on. Profit to this particular trader on this particular trade is going to be in the order of $5 and if you manage to get four such trades a day you earn a very decent living in most poorer countries where earning $200 a month is above average.

This is a very easy trade to manipulate and earn a living with; not in the richer western countries but certainly in low wage ones. Again I strongly would urge MA to tax trade volumes over TT and put the money back into better loots for hunters, crafters and miners.

There have been so many threads running around this subject…well…come on…PE isn’t like a job and MA isn’t the boss who pays you…
Just think of it more like a Mall..where u have fun spending money…but u could also be the lucky winner of a blouse if you happend to be the 50th( ) buyer in one of the little shops…
…have a nice journey through the game…

p.s. and trading…trading…trading…does it sound like fun?..just imagine yourself shoutin’ every 3 sec “i sell…”…“i buy…”…for hours…NEAH… :scared:

I’ve only been playing for a few weeks and have quickly come to the conclusion that while there is the potential to make money in this virtual universe, hunting is not necessarily the way to do it. However, I still hunt because even though I break even or lose money more often than not, I enjoy doing it. There is really nothing better than taking down an Atrox by one’s lonesome. At least in my humble opinion. I have fun so I don’t mind losing money. It’s really a matter of mind set really. Better luck to you

If you want to earn money, go to work. If you want to have fun play pe. :naughty:
Yes, hunting has been bad for me lately too.

Money can be made in this game and not only by traders. I dont agree with a trade tax because its already there (1ped auction fee) if something is too expensive dont buy it. If someone else does, too bad for them thats the way the (capatalist) world works. If you have your heart set on an item and feel it is overpriced then dont buy it. If you can only get x for your stuff and you feel its too low dont sell it.

No one is holding a gun to your head and saying “You must buy!!!” I have only bought a couple items in auction, other then that TT stuff has been working just fine (i dont even hunt with armor anymore).

I am a total newbie and I’ve already made money hunting. A tiny, tiny bit to be sure, but its building slowly. I read through the forums quite a lot before really starting to play and that helped. I invested $10 bucks in the game (which is really nothing compared to what most games cost). I bought a FAPS, 2 Axes and one of those things that converts raw materials into leather and cloth and such.

I sweat at Camp Phoenix sometimes, but mostly I run around the nearby area of the camp sweating and killing easy mobs. I also spend a LOT of time South & SouthEast of Jason Centre sweating and killing mobs - mostly easy, but a few more difficult now that I’ve built up some skill.

On a hunting run I usually make at least enough to repair damaged items and a little bit extra to put into ‘savings’. Plus I’m building up quite a bit of ‘loot’ and sweat which I am hording to use later on, or to sell in bulk - which makes a higher profit. I’ve already sold a few things bulk that I’ve refined - like fine leather. And I auction off any armor items I get from loot to put more funds in ‘savings’. Teaming up with others for group hunts helps a lot as well. And if I do run a little bit low, I sell a little Sweat (at never less than 1.6 or 1.7) to make up the difference.

It can be done, but it takes a LOT of time - and a LOT of restraint not to buy stuff you don’t need this early on. Armor isn’t even worth considering as a newbie, it costs too much to repair and a FAPS is a far better investment. If you get killed a lot, who cares? You just bounce back and start whacking the baddies again!

I agree, a simple calculation of the amount of time spent playing PE and how much PEDs you would have to earn to compete with your real world job would show you how unrealistic making a living in PE is.

Spend some of your real currency to escape into a fun “virtual world” where you don’t have to punch a clock and and you can fire a plasma rifle while in your underwear where ever you damn well please. That is worth a deposit isn’t it?

The key to hunting is not to go over your head. Only fight mobs you can take down easily and only use weapons you can use efficiently.

Use an oppalo (amp it with a 101 or 105 for more power), if you have an amp on your rifle then also have an unamped oppalo for killing almost dead mobs. Also use an unamped TT pistol for taking down almost dead mobs if they’re in range.

Don’t wear armour. You should be able to take down young daki/exasaour/combi/snabs before they hit you.

Don’t fap unless you want to spend the peds on skilling (which you will need later). Dieing doesn’t cost you anything unless you’ve wasted ammo on the mob that kills you - don’t be too proud to die

Stay away from areas that have bery or foul, this will just cost you peds.

Hunt for as long as you can.

Keep a close track of you’re income and outgoings, don’t fool yourself into thinking your doing ok.

Think that’s about it

Steve, capitalism is where the price mechanism works through supply and demand; if theres more demand prices will go up and someone will manufacture in greater qty and prices will go down again

buying up all items of a kind and selling them at a fixed price isn’t capitalism. In all capitalist societies there are laws against it.

the idea that a boycot of high priced items works to modulate prices isnt true because someone will buy it at that price anyway = if you oversell an item 50 peds over what its worth but it’s a rare item or you have a near monopoly you don’t care about it not being sold 10x because when you sell it you still make 40 ped profit.

Make money hunting?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Ahem, sorry.

I hunt and mine, the latter earns me many more peds than the former (but still rarely enough to break even :frowning: ).

You can make money in this game if you’re REEEEEAAAALLLLLLLY Lucky and get Hof’s all the time, but I guess that chance is not present :wise:

Lol : D

Emh was doing mixed mining/hunting Friday, I was breaking even then a Bery dropped a GSI (=80-95ped). Saturday same, two kind Atraxes dropped about 20 peds, again profit. Sunday, everything I tried was shit, disaster, and catastrophy, so I go skilling with daikibas and get GSI again.

Lol a clear pattern is emerging.. somewhere but not in my brain. Good weekend tho for me.

to answer ur question, only if u are lucky. period.

Just to make it clear, i was talking in game money, i don’t plan on withdrawing anything.

I’m just tyring to make ends-meat IN GAME, and right now it’s prooving near impossible to do so.

The answer is, yes, you can.

If you plan on being able to withdraw ANYTHING from the game with a career in hunting, then you are plain nuts…unless your skills are all at max, that is.

Thing is, look at it this way: The bigger stuff you hunt, the more shots you put into the mobs. The more shots you put into them, the more ammo you burn, the more you need to repair your weapon and the more you need to repair that expensive armor you baught.

So, think about it this way: If you hunt smaller things, you use less shots.
Personally, I hunt snabbles with no armor and use an A&P Brave Mentor(4 burn a shot, and low damage to the weapon). I usually come back with an extra 5-10 ped on a shorter hunt, and sometimes lose all 40 ped I invest in the hunt.

To make ends meet you need a decent skill with the weapon you are using and to hunt something small. You also need to set a limit to know when to quit. Remember, higher skills mean you miss less and do more damage to the weaker mobs. It also means you don’t need protection from them. If you get loot(say armor for example) save it up till you have a complete set, and sell it. If you get a full set of pixie, right now it’s selling for tt+9, so you just made some cash off a hunt there as well…in the end though, it’s all in how you do it…but don’t plan to feed your family on a hunter’s budget.
