Mythology names in PE

Im not sure if this has been posted before.

A little ”study” on the connection between names in Project Entropia and greek mythology—By Kaine

Atlas Haven ---- Atlas, a titan that was defeated by Jupiter and was condemned to the burden of holding up the sky on his shoulders.

Aegis Mound ---- Aegis, the shield of Jupiter that was forged by Vulcan and represents “Divine protection”.

Cape Corinth ---- Corinth, A city that existed about 1100 BC in Greece

Camp Echidna ---- Echidna means “Female viper”. She was the mother of all monsters in the greek mythology.

Fort Ares ---- Ares. The Greek god of war, known as Mars by the Romans.

Fort Argus ---- Argus. A great being of huge strength, who had a hundred eyes, of which only two were asleep at once, whence he was named Panoptes, or the All-seeing.

Fort Fury ---- In the lower world there was the three daughters of Acheron and Night. These plagued mankind with suffering and they where called “The Furies”

Fort Meduza ---- Medusa. One of the three Gorgons whose hair was made of hissing snakes, who ever looked into her eyes where transformed into stone.

Fort Troy ---- The city of Troy, Some say that the walls of the city was built by the magic sound of Apollo’s lyre.

Fort Ithaca ---- Ithaca. In mythology, the island-kingdom of Ulysses.

Fort Zeus ---- Zeus. Called “Jupiter” by the Romans, the greatest of the Olympian gods, was a son of Cronus (Saturnus), and Rhea.

Hadesheim ---- Hades. The Greek god of the under world, the son of Saturn and Rhea, and the brother of Jupiter and Neptune. Simply the Greek form of the devil.

Jason Centre ---- Jason, A hero which greatest feat was his voyage in the Argo to Colchis to obtain the golden fleece.

Nymphtown ---- Nymphs where not gods and not really humans either they where not immortal but they lived for a very long time.

Port Atlantis ---- Atlantis. A mythical island in the west, mentioned by Plato, Pliny and other ancient writers, and said to have sunk in the ocean.

These are just a few of the names that i have thought of. And of course there is a few that i cant connect to greek mythology like : Billys space Ships
and Twin Peaks (weird tv-serie) :smiley:
Please send ur opinions and maybe names that i have missed.

Treasure Island City

Robert Louis Stevenson

Stevenson wrote Treasure Island for his stepson in 1881. He said that,
“If this don’t fetch the kids, why, they have gone rotten since my day”.
It’s a tale of pirates, a treasure map, a mutiny and a one-legged sea cook.
Treasure Island remains one of literature’s best loved adventure stories.

Also… Argonauts, Greek mythology.
The ARGONAUTS are those who sailed to Colchis in order to bring the Golden Fleece of the Ram that Phrixus 1 had dedicated to Ares at Colchis. The ARGONAUTS, with Jason as admiral, put to sea from Iolcus, and after several adventures came to Colchis, fetched the Golden Fleece, and came back with the king’s daughter, Medea, whom Jason married.

HadesHeim Hades
Hades was allotted the dominion of the Underworld and rules over the dead. He is known under several other names: Pluto 2, Aedoneus, Orcus and Dis. It is said that Hades was worshipped only in Elis.

Tethy (Tethy’s creek) Is a moon:
Tethys’ low density indicates that it is almost completely composed of water ice, similar to Dione and Rhea. The western hemisphere is dominated by a huge impact crater, called Odysseus, which is 400 km diameter,nearly 2/5 of the satellite.

Scylla (East Scylla mountains):
Scylla 1 is one of the monsters found on each side of the strait of Messina, between Italy and Sicily, the other being Charybdis. Scylla 1 had the face and breast of a woman, but from the flanks she had six heads and twelve feet of dogs.

Edchina
The monster that Argus 1 slayed.

Orthos
ORTHOS was a two-headed dog with a serpent’s tail who guarded the cattle of Geryon. He was killed by Herakles.

Pandora
Pandora 1, the first woman, was so called because each of the OLYMPIANS gave a gift to make her complete. Before her there was no womankind.

Corinth
Corinth is as city at the western end of the Isthmus, joining the Peloponnesus to Boeotia. The city was first named Ephyra or Ephyraea, because, as it is said, the Oceanid Ephyra 1 was the first to dwell in Corinth.

Chimera
Chimera (mythology), in Greek mythology, a fire-breathing monster that had the head of a lion, the body of a she-goat, and the tail of a dragon.

Argus Panoptes had been credited for killing the monster Echidna.

Echidna was the mother of many monstrous offspring: Cerberus, Chimaera, Orthus, the Hydra, Nemean Lion, Sphinx, Caucasian Eagle, Crommyonian Sow and vultures.

We see Chimera, and Orthos in PE =)

Whats with the caucasian eagle? jeez. Easy on the white hate.

Also, Hades isnt really considered the DEVIL by greek mythology, merely the .. unscrupulous god who runs the underworld. Also you included the roman names.. No planets. tsk tsk. :wink:

Calypso is the name of one of Saturn’s moons. It is Greek in origin, of course, but I do not know its history.

Of course, b/c science has given Greek mythological names to many things in our solar system, many such names in PE also correspond to moons, asteroids, etc :wink: … Atlas and Pandora are also moons of Saturn as an example :girl:

Odin ---- “King” of the gods

Heimdall----Is belived to be the god of the sky, he battled Loke in Ragnarök where they both where killed. (to make a long story short) :wink:

Don’t forget that Marco was the famous norse god of verbality and patience.
His long stories were known to enchant his followers and he was able to change his appearance through some kind of poly-morphing, what-not.

Clashing Rocks - Twin crags (the Symplegades) that menaced Jason and the Argonauts. Different from the Wandering Rocks.

Most of the looted guns seem to be related to some grand war or series of wars between robots and such. MA just having fun playing with the words and making us think! Point is, even if your gun may be some sort of mythological god, you still get the same damage as me! :laugh:

in Italy I think, was also heavily influenced by Greek visitors/settlers.

Do we derive Umbranoids from it? :wink:
