So.. I want to ask you, what was the worst machine you were able to play PE on?
Firstly I played on P3 1200 MHz, 256 MiB of RAM and GeForce 3 Ti (64MiB)…
It was lagging a log, so I bought extra RAM - now it’s the same machine with 512 MiB of RAM.
But I want to buy notebook in summer and of course to play PE in my spare time there - what it should be? Have you ever played PE on a notebook?
Do you think that 1,6 GHz Pentium M, 512 MB of RAM and maybe shared graphics memory would be enough?
most of that notebook is fine - but you are going to need a bit more than just onboard graphics.. the minimum i guess would be a gf3 style card - try and get a GF4 mobility, or a 9600M from ati? they are cheap too.
Im very interested to know if someone has been able to run PE with laptops 8MB graphics memory. I want to be able to log in to check auctions from university
at home : P4 2.0 Ghz,448 MB Ram,Onboard graphics Card 64 MB(shared )
at my dorm : P3 800 Mhz,320 MB Ram,Ati Radeon 8500LE 64 MB
None of these systems meet the requirements, but I’m still able to play PE in a decent way
The one at home is the worst one ( because of the onboard graphics ) and Pk’ing, visiting laggy areas ( PA, twin ) or amathera really chokes up my pc lol.
The one at my dorm cannot even fathom to meet the requirements, runs PE very good ( probably because of the ati card ), although amathera is slow and pk’ing(again) is a big no-no.
So PE is playable while not meeting the requirements, but still…
I’ve got a laptop i used to be able to play PE on. Since 7.1 i cant. It crashes every time i login. Sometimes right away and sometimes after a min or two.
It’s a Pentium Centrino 1,3MHz with 32MB shared gfx mem, 512MB mem(-32MB for the graphics). I havent tried to update the drivers though so i really dont know if it’s harder specs in 7.x or just new drivers needed.
The slowest comp i “play” PE on is a P3-800 with 512MB mem, geforce4 MX440. It works, but not if u wanna hunt :dunce:
err oh yea. If you want a laptop, go for one with a dedicated gfx card and not with shared mem.
i have a laptop with2.6 gzh cpu 256 DDR memory and 64 Mb garphics card yet PE worjs better on a 1.5 desktop I would avoid laptops for gaming purposes unless you can get significantly above the min spec and have good amount of bandwidth
but when a laptop - then a mobile one, not a energy-burner with P4, which drains whole battery in 20 minutes :))
i think of something for about $1000 - $1300,maybe even $1500,
with centrino technology, as you mentioned, stand-alone graphics card with its own memory will be good and of course also I want to buy some extra RAM into it, because today the standard is 256 MBs, and a 512 MB module is not very expensive..
for example this one - Microstar M510 1.6 256MB 40GB Combo
15" XGA TFT 1024x768; Intel 855PM/ICH4-M chipset, VGA ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, 64MB VRAM, 40GB HDD, 256MB DDRAM, Intel®Pentium M 1.6 GHz , CDRW/DVD COMBO Drive, 10/100Mbit LAN, 56k FaxModem, 1xPCMCIA Type II , 3x USB2,0, 1x parallel port, 1x 1394 port Audio: AC97 2.1compliant,Li-Ion bateria, battery up to 7hrs size 329.0(Š) x 280.0(D) x 32,8/37,2(V) mm, weight 2.9kg, Farba Gray
costs $1100 without 19 % VAT .. quite affordable..
I used to be able to play PE on a p3 667mhh, 256mb ram and a savage 4 graphics card, but i can’t say it went smoothly
I couldn’t open my inventory or the auction, and it lagged badly.
Nowadays it doesn’t work at all anymore
I first started playing PE on a Compaq Intel celeron 667Mhz tower with an on board video card, sound, 128 Mb of ram and a dsl connection. It was great till VU 5 i think… was a bit laggy but acceptable.
Then upgraded to a HP Athlon 2800+ (2.8 Ghz processor) tower with 512 Mb of ram, and an on board vid card… worked well till VU 6…
Then upgraded my vid card to Nvidia GeForce Fx 5700 LE 128 Mb… and god it rocks My dad also bought a hp pavillion mobile… it’s a P4 3.0 Ghz, ati 9800 mobile 128 Mb, 512 mb of ram and it runs PE almost like a charm… since the mobile card eats up some of the ram.. i get a bit of lag, but nothing serious.

But can you play unplugged? (from electric power supply? )
because P4 is not really a portable laptop
hehe
I got once a AMD64 3000+, 1GB of RAM, Ati Radeon 128 MB and all games were running smoothly like a real life
unfortunately I got the machine only for reviewing and I had to return it after a week
The p4 is very mobile and it’s a laptop btw. One of the new hp models with wide screen very nice color definition too and very good details. Batterie last about 2 hours before ya need to plug it back in. I used it all year last year for my engineering project on CATIA v.10 at home and school.
I have to agree it’s not a 14" little flat thing, it’s about 17"-18" wide by about 14" long and about 1.5"thick. It also not a light weight.. if i remeber well it’s about 3-4 kilos.
But it’s a nice machine and you can take it along almost everywhere (if ya got a good shoulder… not girl recommended  )
When I started playing PE I had a 600mhz AMD Duron processor,32mb tnt2 card and 256mb ram. Worked nice, my current computer is amd 2000+ ,1gb ram and a 128mb ATI 9800SE graphic card and its sweet
I use to lag real bad in Hades and in places with lots of people like Twin and PA. This was when I had 256 megs of memory.
I upgrade it to 756 and I have to say no more lag
Only lag I get is network lag now when I’m doing something that requires a lot of stuff from the servers like opening up my storage unit. I still get some network lag when its really busy in PA or Twin, but at least its not churning up my hard disc

huh… swapping ruled, yeah?
this was also when I had 256 megs of RAM - my windoze was swapping, swapping and awapping - PE had consumed ~200 MB of memory, rest had been taken by windoze kernel and PE had occupied about 400 MBs of swap..
When I upgraded to 512 megs, it’s not swapping when being at one location - maybe only when teleporting between continents, but it’s normal - why should be textures from location far far away loaded in physical memory?
