MindArk: A year in review

OK so how have MindArk done this year with their goals and aspirations?

Some people will remember this 2004-2005 roadmap:

Time for a quick run down

A selection of content coming during 2004-2005

YUP Add new functions to auction – adding functions like purchase orders of bulk items.

  • YUP!

NOPE Add new functions to societies – society functions will be deepened and much more control will be issued.

  • Hmm… didn’t notice

YUP Add new levels and professions for crafting.

  • YUP!

YUP Add stats to tools – tools will get the same amount of info as weapon and armor counter-parts, making it easier to assay them.

  • Think so…

NOPE Advertising/Department stores – set up shop in a department store, advertise your stuff and become a successful retailer.

  • NOPE!

NOPE Bars – Bars will be places of relaxation and entertainment, everything a weary avatar needs.

  • I would like company and drinks, No one goes in bars… maybe none of us are weary enough?

YUP Beauty/Body shops – Shops where you can alter the looks of your avatar, with completely new appearances and styles, including piercing and tattoos.

  • Not shops and no tatoos etc but we can get plastic surgery and hairdoos

NOPE Bounty hunting system – are you annoyed because you got killed by some bully? Set a contract on him and make him pay the consequences.

  • NOPE

YUP Carpentry – new crafting profession, making furniture and other similar items.

  • YUP!

NOPE Crafters will be able to repair items – meaning you don’t have to run back to the imperial communal repair terminals.

  • Don’t think so…

NOPE Enhanced chat/messaging system – allowing for more advanced functions, like grouping, blocks and offline messaging.

  • Didn’t notice it

NOPE Event tools – make tools available for Project Entropia participants to organize their own events, with ticket sales, area rentals and rules.

  • Arenas but nothing else

NOPE Food/Drinks – a new crafting profession, food and drinks will enhance the avatar abilities.

  • Fruit enhances pets in that they keep moving

YUP Huge Mindforce update – both the way Mindforce the interface works as well as numerous new powers.

  • Wormholes and TP’ing are kinda cool

YUP Land management system – you want to enhance your lands with new creatures, or perhaps add new minerals to it? Go ahead.

  • YUP smells and all

NOPE New planets – what lies beyond Calypso?

  • answers on a postcard to…

NOPE Notary/Reputation system – are you good or evil? Can you be trusted or not? This system will help determine what kind of person the avatar is.

  • Reading EF? Must have missed this one

NOPE Space exploration/combat – discover new areas in space, mine asteroids, fight pirates, enhance your space ship with additional equipment, weapons and shields.

  • someone was playing a little too much EVE online

YUP Taming system – ever wanted to own your pet Atrox and ride it off towards the sunset? This system makes it happen.

  • YAY! :girl:

YUP Update “Pre-Gold” items to “Ancient” status – some items are truly rare and respected.

  • Think so

NOPE Vehicles – be a bus driver or maybe a heavy machinery operator. Or make a living hauling large quantities of ore.

  • maybe with trade runs to club neverprofit but I think they meant landside stuff so no

OK So 9 out of 21 ideas isn’t so bad? and we’ve had other things we hadn’t been expecting like dungeons of sorts and some nice stories about stuff happenning and some event type things such as the roman ram and axe. There’s a lot of cool new buildings and music too.

Not such a bad year although I’d say playability over profit any day.

Hope this is interesting

Yeh I always thought it sounded like a “Too many cups of coffee” day

I think MA has done really well this year, i must say that I myself am pretty pleased with the way the gam is developing

I agree with Mango and i look forward next year with the team expansion

I agree that MA has done a great job this year. And it’s fine with me if the game grows “organically” versus some strict list of features that they commit to a year in advance.

True. I think also that some of the ideas were very badly thought out (or not thought out at all). The double edged sword of this game is that its linked to RL economy. This places some tricky restrictions on change.

eg vehicles: Theres no point in ore lugging whilever the TP’s work and if you turned off the TP’s this would upset a lot of people

The thing i really like about MAs style is that every time they implement something new, we get what we hoped for+something more… a never ending surprise these MA guyz
