Mentor, yes

I had a reply from MA about this sad mentor abuse.

They said there’s nothing they can do unless they look into it as fraud.

That’s it, 1 fun week of PE and getting to know the game a bit again. No more. This character…

  1. Less than a day back in game and my ‘mentor’ shouts at me for not handling my combat interface well enough to shoot an atrox with my TT gun. This instead of showing me how to. That’s the only time I saw her in field, in action. Took four minutes.
  2. Only question asked was ‘how are your skills doing’. She also scanned me once.
  3. I have had one or two questions myself, none of which she could answer.
  4. I ask to get assistance with a few TPs and she’s busy
  5. I ask to get assistance with a few TPs and she’s busy
  6. I ask to get assistance with a few TPs and she’s busy
  7. She now laughs at me for asking her to kick me. ‘Do you think I’m stupid? I’ll never kick you’.

I did ask them to look at it as a fraud, a scam, and get back to me via mail.

Hope that happens so I can play again, otherwise Meg is no more and most likely PE is no more for me either. People can be very bad, hope you can counter it better than I.

Hopefully her society can do something about it. Cant have a mentor shark in ranks, no good for the rep.

Have fun all. See you on another avatar or not at all.

You are the one who can kick your mentor in the trial period.
Press K. Push disciple button. If you still have a boot icon next to your mentor name, click it and you booted her !
Unless you have skilled like crazy in that one week, you should still be able to do this.

Good luck and hope to see you in game.

Meg,

No need to give up because of a sucky mentor…keep those support cases going to MA, they should help you if you are beyond your period of being able to kick your mentor.

I have NO problem helping you out, even though I am a newb as well…I got COMPLETELY lucky with my mentor…he is very hands off, but answers any questions and even gave me a haircut the other day (that was hilarious!). In that way, if I cannot answer something you ask, I will ask my mentor for you.

Tell me what timezone you are in, where you are normally playing, and I will try and find ya and add you to my friends list…I cannot “be” a mentor yet, but I have no problem filling the gap left by your current mentor. PM me your email or something too, we can try and meet at a specific time/day somewhere.

Could this be a way around these dodgy mentors?

Transfer all items to a Very trusted avatar
Have someone with a GSI load your skills onto it then transfer items and gsi skills to new avatar ?

Obviously a high level of trust is needed here. I wouldnt mind doing the items swap for anyone who has a crap mentor the skills part I couldnt do as I dont have a spare GSI kicking about .

Just a thought

I can’t imagine a using a GSI for a quite new avatar would be useful, they aren’t cheap you know. I like helping out new&fun people around, so if you ever see me give me a shout. One of my pupils is on the verge of graduation I am willing to take on a new student if you would decide to start over. I offer: TP running whenever I get the time, release from outposts. I am not that uber but I know some lovely people :-). I don’t supply anything for free, but if I’d have to buy something for you I’d sell at costprice, while I trade looted stuff for TT

Nice thought, but keep in mind you would need a GSI for each skill to be swaped like this. A single GSI can only be loaded with one skill, not all that you have. +rep for trying

Never had a problem with my mentor I originally had, it’s just that she was hardly around… but she was okay. Asked how I was doing… but the mentor I’m with currently is awesome because he also assigned some of his society mates to me too. I’m adopted.
Dash is a cool dude, so are the others in his group.

But to kick, like mentioned already… hit K, then the disciples button. You can kick your naff mentor in the… menu. lol

ah ok , I thought you would be able to fill up a gsi with all of a relative newbies skills .

This is becoming 1 of the saddest things in game now. Mentors are intended to highten the experience and learning period of the game, and now its become a way for idiot noobs o earn expensive items. The mentorship situation needs some serious working to satisfy both mentor and deciple

I think a possible solution woul be a rating sytem, alot like the one we use here on EF. At anytime during the mentorship period the deciple feels that the mentor has been giving him/her lots of useful advice then they will be able to give them some “mentorship points” . (the scale of mentorship points given by a deciple is up to the deciple). Similarly, the deciple will be able to deduct pints from there mentor should they feel neglected. At the end of the mentorship period the total mentro points the mentor has the better chance they have of recieveng a “good mentor item” compared to having a bad 1. as a further measure, not having enough mentor points may result in no item at all.

If you then combine thiswith the mentors option to kick the deciples, should they feel that there deciple is " abusing" the points system then they can kick those deciples and so the mentor has more incentive to be a good mentor and the deciple will benefit from a bettor mentorship.

just my :twocents: spend them as you wish

i think so too but i cant do anything about that

You dont NEED a mentor to make it in PE.
I never had one, cos it wasnt implemented when I started, made it fine.

And second, youll find alot of helpful people who will giude you regardless of you being their deciple, and thats prolly the best helpers you find, cos theyre not just after a potentially good item for you finishing you period.

Having a mentor, I dont think, is any better for a newbie than not having one.

I dont take deciples, cos alot of them never finish, and they take it for granted that Ill pay them to finish their period. Ill rather help some random noob with a gun or ammo, or other lowrank item I might have.

Over and Out.

I’m a socializing gamer - means that there is rarely a problem getting gear a bit cheaply or assistance etc. Loiter and chat: skilllvl grand old master. People like that, of course, and if trading makes their game more fun I give them drops at TT. The TPs I already knew most, from before. I did a complete set, back when the mobs were less dense (and they attacked one another). Despite this, and despite having played a couple of years back, I really needed to get to know the game controls all over. That, plus Amethera TPs. Can’t beleive I looked up the mentorship rules so late (slaps self hard).

I mean that gear and help is the easy part. By now it’s a bit too late for this ‘mentor’ to do anything. About me kicking her - there is a point where you can’t do that any more, based on skill-levels I think. As the ava is on some 600 handgun, that point of no return was passed very fast. Maybe at 200? Who knows.

Yeah, passing on the skills in GSIs would cost a bundle, hehe, way easier to just skill up the regular way.

Really thanks for the PMs I got on this: heart-warming and makes me beleive in the PE community (and the EP-community).

Great idea, wozza, said so before.

Bottom line is that I use games to set aside reality a bit. It should be fun and mainly pleasant. I like the addiction-kick had from the possibility of a nice drop even when just skilling up. I like the goals - good armor+weaponry to finally slap those nasty fast mobs around - atrax, trox, armax, even argonauts, feffs, merps. To deal with those pesky drones outside Ithaca, etc. Lots of fun to be had, in due time. This mentor thing irks me no end, like something I can’t scratch. I was had, and badly too. We’ll see after the xmas/new year’s bit is over if I still feel the same. Maybe play, maybe no. Certainly I could spend a week or three sweating with the other baby chars, but that’s no fun in the long run. Problem is just pride, as I refuse to accept her merriment at seeing me stuck with a bad deal.

Thanks for the concern. It’s just a game and other games are to be had. Oh, and I’m sorry to whine about it here, hehe. I know how annoying stuff like this can be, too. Have fun out there. See you in this or other games. We’ll see.

EDOT Uh-oh. I’ll edit the mentor soc/name out of the initial post. Sorry about that, F1r3, no shade on your rep. /EDIT

EDIT2 Agreed, Gnasher, truly not needed. I’d like a disciple around tho, to show the basics and give some pixie, run a few TPs with, maybe show the Umbra trader (he still in the game, btw?). Would be fun. After that stuff, he/she’d have to find an own soc to join and make new friends. Also to help find good trades later. What is there to do for a mentor after an initial week? Not a lot. /EDIT2

Since this person wont kick you, one way you can spite her is to make it so she has to wait forever to get her mentor gift.
if you do it right you can make it so it will take 2+ years before she gets a mentor gift, but yet have it say your 90-95% done with your mentorship for those 2+ years.
they way to do this is to skill up on every profession you can graduate in until your 1 rank away from graduating and do this for EVERY profession.
Start with mining and use your pistol and rifle only for defense so you can mine in peace. once you get to 1 rank til you graduate in ore switch to enmatter.
Then once your one rank in graduating on all mining professions stop mining entirely. switch to hunting use your pistol mainly til 1 rank before grad. then switch to carbine only.
once your one rank til graduation on ranged weapons switch to melee, do that for all the melee weapons (even the ones you cant graduate on).
then switch to just fapping people until your almost to graduate in first aid. then after saving all your loot from hunting and mining do it all again on crafting.
during the course of this you should at least unlock marksmanship and martial arts (maybe even MDA). It will get you some fairly nice secondary skills and make it so when you do graduate on somethign you do so as a well rounded avatar.

With any luck your useless mentor wil get tired of being teased with your nearly graduated status and tired of waiting for you to finish up, she will kick you.

In the meantime take advantage of the knowlege here in the forums and from other players.
search for Jove’s “amethera TP’s the easy way” her on EF to get a well documented map of the amethera teleports.

As for being a mentor yourself you can still be a desciple and a mentor.
The minimum skill to be a mentor is not far above the cut-off skill to be a desciple (the point that its too late to be a desciple).

Perhaps if more newbs dealt with shoddy mentors this way. there would be less of them that are out there trying to get a quick and easy mentor gift.
They would have an easy mentor gift, but it sure as hell wont be quick.

There would be more skilled avatars to join the uber socs when it comes time for landgrab.
The gross skills you would get from doing this would likely make you qualified to join some of the top skilled socs.

Now that you expand on this idea, I have to say that I agree, Kay-T. First I though ‘where’s my fun in the game if I’m to put all my skills on hold just to spite a shoddy mentor’ but the way you explain it, it does have a certain nice ring to it. May be a way to go on in PE. (Yes, I saw you wrote about this earlier.)

EDIT Oh I been on a week now so I have all TPs, of course. Longu hunt is fun, bit like big snables. I’m in a soc, new but nice. I have a few skills 400-600 and doing just fine. /EDIT

Best idea i have heard concerning this problem! It would benefit the noob and it would probably encourage higher skilled players to make the effort cause lets face it,if you want to be a good mentor there is a lot of work and commitment involved. +rep to you my friend.

Nah, not really so. In this confusion…

I called her a liar for telling me I’d get a gift and skills, as long as I stayed on as a disciple. This person isn’t very bright or good at english. My guess it’s just a conered kid. I’ll sweat and chat, then decide what constructing to start on. Mining should be at least four months into the future, considering construction skills seem slowish. Then handgun to 1800 and then rifle. Melee after that, maybe. Then start on the mind stuff. In a year I hope she’s quit so I can end it.

Side note: Disciples can’t use skill implants
