Just wanted to rant a bit . I was recently locked out of my account. Got ahold of support and they said it was a impersonating a staff member ,(My Avatar name), Which I have had for years and years. So I was told I need to pick a different name.
I reluctantly picked another expecting it to expedite the process since the issues wasnt anything I had done that locked my account out… it is three days later and Im still waiting on this to be resolved
I was ok with this in the beginning because i thought it would be handled since it wasnt something I had done. Secondly why am I forced to change my name because a now staff member has it? Is there any compensation for this? My soc and everyone know me as my name.
I mean if they did this to me, I’d be pretty pissed to be honest but at the same time not getting 1 measly global when you “play” “years and years” is a little suspicious to say the least.
Not being funny but I find this really insane and unfair.
That name is common ish and many have that same name and it is insane that MA decide just because there is a staff member who uses that name that the players can also not use that name.
I do not see that as impersonating at all but that is just me.
Where is the common sense here? NO ONE OWNS A NAME! try and trademark a name or alias - good luck with that!
Indeed this is weird. Technically they can lock everyone in the game on the long run. Also, this affects every new player who has no idea about the names of MindArks’ avatars. Just imagine, you create an account, maybe get to play the game on your first day and boom, you’re locked. I don’t know if you’d go through the hassle of a support case and come back.
It would be interesting, why MindArk is doing that. As we know they already have a star over their head and next to their name. So what’s the reason?
Keep in mind that one of the reasons why we can’t change our names is that because others know us by that name, e.g. you can’t get out of a beef with someone and clean your avatar like that.
It doesn’t really sound like reassuring behaviour from a developer, especially when people are putting their time into the game and something like this can just be done on a whim.
Unless, of course, there’s more to the story than OP has said.
There had been some confusion among players. Before posting this thread OP was completely fine with the change. I haven’t heard anything since. 9/10 times when locked out for no reason there usually are a few reasons and people don’t know which reason keeps them locked so they don’t want to out the others.
If MindArk doesn’t want certain names to be used, why is it possible to create account with those names in the first place? This shouldn’t be so hard to implement.
