What is the truth behind the history of Fort Fury? I have heard a few conflicting stories, which I tend to believe, since they intersect in many places. But first I would like to hear if any official version of the events is available?

Is it true that Fort Fury is a hero city, which turned the course of the Second Robot War? Is it true that it stands as a symbol of fallen robots and brave opposition? Is it true that no matter how many times it was attacked, the defenses of Fury melted down rivers of robots, turning them into piles of iron? That this fort now is a memorial of hatred towards machines?

What’s the historical meaning of a backside of the ‘Welcome To Fort Fury’ sign?

The back of the sign eh? Hmm, I dont remember seeing that, I’ll have to check it out.

I’m not sure about the history of it, but there’s a large amount of back story available about PE. It was released by MA and you have likely already read it, but if not, we have a copy at PERC Click that link, then select “The Full History”

Frankly I’ve not got around to reading it all yet, but I will do soon, as I need to play about with the formatting and add some pictured etc, because it make heavy reading right now. Who know’s though, your answer may just be there :slight_smile:

It’s not the same text though.
It has no specific info on cities and outposts separately.

Like Ithaca, how was that one established?
Why is Nymphtown called NYMPHtown?
Who established Minopolis? It looks highly civilized, but very empty.

Well, mainly, because it used to be buggy and vanished often in VU 5.

Ahh, you are prolly reading “TheGate” and not the history.

Ithaca came late ingame, i used to hunt all alone on that island before Fort Ithaca was even there, it was a long run to get there, and my equipment wasnt too good, occasionally the troxie youngs that was there at that time got me, then it was all the way back as ghost, no, no auto-revive back then, you had to walk all the way to a revival terminal as ghost.

Why NymphTown is called NymphTown, hmm, really dunno, maybe it got something to do with the big lake at NymphTown, nymphs live in water.

MinoPolis came later than Ithaca, it used to be a very good mining spot, the whole green area there, and as with Ithaca Island it was a long run, without good equipment the Atrax Guardians and Drones sometimes got you, then again that long run as ghost.

Oh yes, I was still around when ghosts had to manually fly to revival terminals. I liked it better though. Made u appreciate death.

correct me if im wrong but have PE history not also changed a bit over time i remember reading about alot of stuff thats not in the texts u guys refer to and come to think about it “we forgot to attack the robot bases thats wy robots are so good now”`?

Sometimes the gun was the only object left in Fort Ares :smiley:
The rest of the town would be invisible.

Alright, so this is compiled, what I heard about Fort Fury.

During the second robot revolt, already when the robots of Calypso got infected with the odd alien robot virus, terribly crushing the main control system, (Base Matrix, was it?) the robots conquered half the continent, they went from south (fort Troy), up, conquering and ruining to ground level everything in sight. No defenses could oppose them, since the fort systems were also automated. And no powerful gamers were on at the time to defend the cities.

But when Robots reached Fort Fury, they met fierce and heroic resistance. Ship after ship, robots kept attacking gamers defending Fort Fury, and all attempts were melted down to dust and ashes. No matter how hard cyborg menace tried to conquer this little “hedgehog” of a fort, they always failed, and legions of machines were gunned down under thorough supervision of the brave colonists. Gamers drove robot ships away, and the attacks became rarer and soon only became seldom cowardly outbursts in random locations.

I bet it sucked to log off, log on in a conquered town, be killed right on the spot, revive again, get killed… etc.

When I read this, pictures in my head are drawn of Terminator-style battles, last surviving humans crawling with hand grenades in their hands, with knives between their teeth.

It kind of reminds me of Zychion, how the collapsed population still tried to uphold resistance. Mental, and physical. After all, most of the technology in both Fury and Zychion is functional.

I always treat these two places like Hero-towns.

Now, MindArk in that PDF file, gave a little different information on Fort Fury, which I will compile next.

it was a lot easier to get tp’s when you could roam the land as a ghost.

i wish i could roam ameth as a ghost. id finally have more than just the Treasure Island tp.

hmm.. is Deathifier registered on this forum? I think he should be able to rename the island, just as every island successor should be able too. The tp name should switch too.

[edit] and yeah ‘the gate’ did rule. i read the first 4 issues as a noob (they were at least a year old at that time, unbeknownst to me. =P) but its them i thank for what mining knowledge i have.
