Importance of getting TPs!

The “missing TPs / stuck at outpost” thread moved me to ask my question here.
Everywhere I go, people tell me it is oh so very important to get the TPs as quickly as possible – my mentor, other mentors, any friendly people I come into contact with – but (as a nooblet) I don’t fully understand why.

As far as I can tell, my travel options are limited by: no armour/no weapon/no skills… I think a squirrel beat me up yesterday. I don’t understand why it is I should feel it necessary to travel the world immediately. Aren’t I just going to hang around my favourite sweat-shop-stops for a while, anyways? Then I could carry a rocket launcher… or Opalo… with me for the wee ones.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a-runnin’ for those TPs, but… could somebody tell me why? :dunce:

good question not really sure.. only think I do know is when I was an noob was easy to get the tp.. most of the walk I did do when I was dead.. back then you could work while dead.. ok maybe better put float..

Now even if I was to escort you to tp it cost tons of ammo :frowning:

so right now I would say if you are doing good in an area stick to it

my :twocents:

Well no reason atall you could spend your entire time in one area, however to attend events or meet up for hunts it helps to have all the TP’s so you dont have to run to far to get to where you need to be.

Plus it gives you a task to preform, most people who complete all TP’s are more likely to stay then those who don’t from a mentors point, that is to say I would more likely give an item to a disciple once they had completed all TP’s I suppose you could call it a little test of commitmant. People who just want items from mentors are not willing to do this as it may be the case that they are just testing the game or have a 2nd avatar and just trying for free stuff

Also some city’s have special traders like Jason centre, and Hadesham also the feffoid traders so having TP’s buy these means you can access them easier.

However you dont need to get them yet  You can stay around certain areas untill you have more skills and then it should be easier to travel between city’s then.

We are here to help you :D, so don’t feel pressured into doing anything its a more enjoyable experience if you take it at your own speed. I still have not completed my discipleship for these exact reasons after a year of playing

Alot of people hangout and sweat untill they hit there caps before exploring to get the most they can from their sweat limit and grab as many bottles as possible. I tend to find sweating gets boring after a while so it can help to break it up by getting a new TP

When you take part in these TP runs you tend to meet other people at the same level as you (roughly  )and you can meet friends this way that will stay on your friends list, that way you can ask them questions as they tend to have had different experiences whilst in PE ie a couple of friends that I made TP runs with are still friends now. Im not saying you can’t make friends in town but I find I make better friends when in a team as you do alot more chatting (well I do) and espcially when running for long distances, like from Camp Phoenix to the oil Rig

Hope this clears up any questions and makes sense lol I got a bit carried away

Thanks, folks.
Quick response, too. =)

I guess my only -real- gripe about running is that it is a tedious thing to do alone. Plus (maybe I just suck at TP running) I wind up dead quite a lot. shrugs

lol if you get tired of running alone ask if anyone would want to run with you :), Sometimes no-one wants help other times there are loads willing to run with you either as help or for the new TP, so feel free to post a time in the Stuck at thread  of which time you be able to meet and some of us should be able to run with you even if just for company :),

Your other option is to join a soc that way you can chat with someone while running if they are on  and that all depends on how big the soc is,

just visit a soc terminal the yellow ones  you can sort the socs by size and join a large soc or pick a smaller one, there are loads to choose from and many newcommer socs that will also help you do tp runs or group hunts

Bragi,

I just finished collecting all the TP’s about a week ago, and there were a couple reasons I did it. First, I started in Fort Troy, which is not a very exciting place to stay. I wanted to get to Hadesheim to see the shops and “the capital,” where there are “TT style” tailors, clothiers, etc. Fort Troy was so far from Hadesheim that I ended up getting probably half of my TP’s from that pilgrimage alone.

Having done that, and learned the joys of mining along the way (which is almost best solo), I decided I wanted the rest of them. PE doesn’t really have a “mission” system (except for the recently added beacons), so collecting TP’s became a self-defined mission. It gave me a destination to head for while hunting and mining. Also, you never know what advantages an area or town holds until you’ve been there.

Collecting TP’s in a team can be problematic. At first my wife and I worked at collecting them together, but we soon ran into a snag: dying and getting sent to the closest rivival terminal. This is how it would usually go. We’d start out from the same place, heading for the next TP, and we’d both mine along the way (trying not to step on each others’ claims). One of us would find something, let’s say me for the sake of discussion. My wife would go off to hunt to keep herself occupied while I drilled my claim. Sometimes she’d die. That would take her to the nearest revival terminal which could be a few km away. If it was a TP or outpost we had already visited, I would generally mine and hunt where I was and wait for her (or backtrack if she ran into trouble). But if she TP’d to the NEXT revival terminal, we were pretty much seperated. I was nowhere near a TP for her to get back to me, and I didn’t have the TP she was at. At that point, we’d disband the team and I’d continue on to the destination she had already reached. I guess I could have simply let myself get killed by the same mob that got her, so as to join up with her, but just out of principle I had to get to the next TP the hard way. And if I died, it couldn’t be deliberate. Since this was a “mission” in a way, I guess I felt I needed to “earn” the TP. This is not meant to imply that I didn’t get to a lot of TP’s by jumping on the pain train: I just didn’t do it deliberately.

So (in summary), as Rotten Ice said, collecting TP’s is mostly just “something to do” and makes it easier to meet up with people later on. Collecting with a team has its advantages and disadvantages. It is fun (and safer) to explore with others, but it’s also very easy to get seperated, unless you’re willing to sacrifice yourself to the god of travel–and if you’re not as uptight as I am, that’s a simple solution. If you go solo, I highly recommend taking up mining as a hobby along the way. If you have no armor, no weapons, and no means for obtaining mining equipment, then I’d say the provincial life can be rewarding too.

other than making it so you only have to run to one place once and never have to run there again collecting TPs helps you gather information to help you play better.

One reason your mentor wants you to get them is part of mentoring is to help you learn where the different creatures hang out.
So you can learn the different creatures you can hunt and the different places they live as well as where the nasty ones are so you know to avoid an area until later.
One of the keys to getting good loot is not hunt a place that is looting poorly or a creature and place that is looting poorly. Getting the TPs can help you to learn where there are otehr creatures of the same type but in a different place that might loot better.
One of the best ways to learn the different perculiarities of the different creatures is to encounter them. This healsp yo to leanr how close you can get to them before they will attack you, and as you leanr in some ways getting the tps come easier cuz you start to leanr wich mobs you can get closer to and wich ones you give a wide berth.

Its the interactions with these creatures help you to learn your limits, and later on it will be a happy milestone when you realise you can now kill certain creatures that made your life more challenging when you were a new player.
Then there is different places to find people peolle hang out in different towns and your chances of buying and selling certain things are better in certain places.

Then there is the fact that there is alot of picturesqe places on both calypso and especially eudoria. Many stunning vistas and breathtaking views. the only way to see this art that was made by MA is to explore There is also alot of interesting things, artifacts and ruins all over its neat to find these things.

There is though, no rush.. one of the nice things of pe is its an “at your own pace” kinda game. It is a good idea to get all TPS as it increase the options for things to do and more enjoyment for you but it can be somethign to do when ya get bored.
Eventually you will get also get oppertinities to go with people if ya keep your eyes peeled for groups forming to go wich can make it more fun, interesting and easier.

One thing which is partially already pointed out. People - even your friends -
do not bother trying to remember what tp’s you have and what you don’t have. It is too tedious. They assume you either have all of them or that
you soon will have all of them.

Here are some instructions of how to reach all tps. This is not to be official, it is
kind of suggestion for Jove’s team for adding texts and new routes to his map.

Some details are still open, e.g. is it easier to run Pandora second last
and then do an easy last run Pandora → Echidna (by running 2 km E of
Pandora, then dying to the Atrox Castle outpost, then running W towards
Echidna (only 2 kms about) and then dying to Echidna.

Notice also the instructions on how to meet another player when
you have no common teleports yet. (Meeting on Treasure Island tp).

I basically have all the teleports except one on the western half of map. I have found it so much easier for trading purposes. I have been playing for a week, but in that time I already have a general idea of where the best prices are.

It’s also just a lot of fun to explore…
