Is it possible to hunt for a newb without losing too much cash in ammo and repairs while doing so?
If so, what would be good mobs to hunt and what weapons to use?
Are melee weapon more efficient that ranged weapons cash wise?

If it is, i havent found it
sept for one time i dident take many shots and my partners got a lot of hits i never profited from hunting …
ALWAYS lose money as a noob, always…
Short answer is no.
I mean thats the point of skills & knowledge. When have more skills you should “in theory” lose less. When you are new you have neither skills or knowledge. So you should expect to lose money until you gain more skills.
You can minimise the loss by reading these forums there is plenty of information given out by players on how to hunt more effieciently. This atleast will give you knowledge. With that you are part of the way there.
Maybe someone could suggest you a place to hunt, but thats no garauntee that you will profit, or even break even when hunting. More so when you are new.
Its like anything when you do it for the first time, online or in real life you wont be very good at it. Practice, practice and practice some more. Learn from your mistakes so you dont make them again. Slowly you will gain skills & knowledge and hopefully not lose too much. Also you never know you could get lucky global or HOF a large amount of PED and be laughing ![]()

But are mele weapon more cost effective?
Once you get better with your weapon, can you cover your repair cost if you use a cheap melee weapon and no armor while killing easy mob like birds?
The 1x0 axe used to be more cost effective, but MA removed the cough bug that caused it to be more cost effective.
Most will argue that ranged weapon is more effective for a newbie mainly because you have low health and its better to kill the mob or atleast do as much damage to the mob before it reaches you. I tend to agree even though i prefer melee weapons ![]()
A combination works. You can use a jester to hit them as much as you before they get to you then switch to an axe to finish them off. You get skills in both categories. A lot of people say it is best to focus on a single category but I have found skilling up on more then 1 type of weapon has done well for me.
