I want to play PE from work but like usually in companys, we have all ports closed. Only 80 and 22 are open so I want to connect with SSH tunnel from my work computer to my home server but I dont know where to change PE server address in PE client. I cant find any config file or registry entry for PE clinet?
Thx for any idea.
I’ve done a fair bit of “bending the internet rules” at uni. I don’t personally know what kind of connections PE uses but my suggestion would be to:
start->run → type cmd [ENTER]
type in netstat -a and make a note of what connections you have going
then run PE, alt tab out and do netstat -a again and you should be able to see what connections it uses.
if PE connects by IP address its not so easy a problem to get round however if it connects by domain name you can maybe get round this by altering your hosts file in windows for those addresses
ie do a search for host in windows to get the file (can’t remember what its called exactly) and add some lines to redirect to your local tunnel ports.
eg
192.168.0.1 gameserver.project-entropia.com
or something like that - let me know if thats any use
Thx for good hint, this with hosts file could work. I ll check in Monday and I ll let you know.
uhmmm..not be rude Tomtom…but aren’t you getting paid to work, not play PE?
He can play on breaks ![]()
..And when the boss aint looking ![]()
I’d recommend asking the sysadmin at your work place to open the ports for you to allow you to connect.
After all, if you cant connect, but you suceed in circumventing that - is it something you really want to lose your job over?
I know that if I implimented limitations on internet access on work machines, and found someone intentionally working around them, they’d be gone.
:sniper: :lam:
yeah personally, i just call in sick to play pe… your work comp probably wont have the power to run it well, i know mine doesnt.
but i think this is more of a ‘can i get away with this’ kind of thing… fight the power! lol.
why not just chill at work, cruise the forums, learn all you can, then apply that knowledge when you get home? i personally kinda welcome the unavailability of pe at work, it forces me to go to the forums and soak all the knowledge possible, then head home and get to work…
good luck, and dont be rendered incompetent! its only a game! ok well thats debateable, but yeah, dont get fired!

LOL! excellent point, you will go from playing more pe to playing NO pe! ok well you can maybe sweat some while youre waiting for your unemployment check, but thats no fun! wait no, i dont think you would get unemployment if you got fired for that… you can sweat and pick up poop in between interviews!
or until you cant pay the internet bill, and get evicted from your pad, and end up on the street, trying to sell your shoes to go play in an internet cafe…
ok i think im done, sorry. im bored at work… dang, im going to get fired for spending too much time on EF forums! :tongue2:
PE changes IP/servers it connects to at certain times, so is a little more complicated, but please let us know how you get on
