In real economy, people pay more for less, and less for more.
Like, say, Costco Wholesale. They try to sell you more to get rid of their stock, so the price for more is less.
However, in PE it’s the opposite. People choose to pay more for more, and less for less. Why is that so?

This is something I’ve noticed and been curious about. I think along the lines of what many have said here, you are paying for the time and effort it takes to accummulate 2k soft hides versus 200, for example.
In real life the buyer has the power. In real life we consider resources ‘infinite’.
In PE the seller has the power, as resources are finite.
Paint stopped dropping. No one else will just start ‘making’ paint for cheaper. Now everyone gets 1-2 paints instead of 20. Paint is now a limited finite resource.
You want more of it? The % will go up. If you only have 10 cans to sell, its a noob resellers job to get them from you, and repackage them, and increase its inherant value. More of a finite resource = more power. Ask the oil barons.

In RL there is the concept of economies of scale, so that manufacturing a million of one item is much cheaper then only doing 100.
In PE this is not really the case, because the amount of effort to get more still costs time. So its probably equivalent to 0(n) in Big 0 Notation (Think thats right, my comp sci degree seems a long time ago So the more you do takes proportionally more time.
In some ways the PE Economy is more akin to the commodities of real life, eg the Oil or Gold Markets, where value is perceived and based on what people think its worth.
In that concept places like PA dosen’t become a street market, it becomes more of an Outcry Trading Floor that you use to get in most main stock exchanges around the world.
In a nutshell Project-Entropia is like a Bank that has a cool shop and lots of jobs to work at, also a big friggin casino? right?
And you can be savvy investor/businessman/workaholic/hobo/gambler or any and all of the above in no paticular order! :wise:

Well. Consider it a casino where everybody is shouting at you to throw in more money, while other people shoot the dealer when you try to play out a hand and the dealer spits at you at times and rips your clothes to shreds.
Also, you constantly have to repair the cards you use by yourself, which creates money for the owners of the casino.
And of course, there’s a little clique of extremely rich kids dressed in funny suits who hold cards that are way bigger than yours, and yield better results than you’ll ever get
You all are making this way too complicated, and it shows that many of you dont understand economics. First of all, just because MA claims a virtual universe does NOT mean it compares itself to this real world economy we live in. MA is a business and as such has to live by how any business operates in the real world. There are only two things any business in concerned with, expenditures and income. It costs X amount of money to run a business and at this time we the players pay ALL of it, period. Since MA is not getting any income outside the playerbase, we as the playerbase can NEVER make a profit, period. Yes, there may be some who claim they make more then they put in, but it has no meaning untill they remove it from MA, which is part and parcel of the expenditure mentioned above.
The ingame money that we operate on is fiat, play money, monopoly money and has no value until we attempt to convert back to real world money. Until MA gets an outside source of income by advertising or sponsorship we as a playerbase will never profit. In this game, for anyone to gain, someone has to loose. Let me illustrate something…most games that are played today costs in the average of $15 to$20 a month…take the money you have deposited and divide it in to how many months you have played here…thats how much money per month you have payed so far for playing this game. So, even if you believe you can progress to the point where you may brake even, or get ahead, how long will you have to play this game where it may only cost you $15 to $20 per month…think about it.
