Help the nOOb

I have played star wars galexies for about 8 months now and here in about 1 month they will be REALLY dumbing it down and making more like a FPS so it can be ported to the console. I found this game throught MMORPG.com and it looks a whole lot like SWG so I am downloading it.

I know how mmorpgs work and I was a pretty successful businessman on SWG, I made a whole lot of money and a whole lot of good contacts.

Anyways, I am looking for ideas on getting started as a new player. I am not going to put any money in my account until I am sure I will be staying. I also hear that it is pretty tough to get started without cash, any ideas?

In this universe, if you want to “play” you’ll need money (for ammo, decay on weapon/armor/fap…), if you don’t put money on your account the game will be hard at the beginning, you can hope to get a nice hof (=Hall Of Fame) (hehe it’s possible), you’ll progress faster with some money in your account

Well how much should I add? I mean what should I buy first and how much will it cost me?

I think you need to try the game before deposit (never know if you don’t like the game, it’s possible ? :D)
I think 20-30$ is suficient to start, you’ll be able to buy an Armor: Pixie,Rascal and weapon(s) (ammo/decay) (Melee: Axe 1x0, 2x0 - Range: Mann MPH, Mann MPH dlx, Jester D1, Opalo, A3 punisher MK.1) plus a Fap: Fap50

I will have to agree with Thug Life. I am a noob, playing 4 days now. On day#2 I decided that I was going to play long enough to enjoy spending $20 USD on the game. By day#4, I am progressing much faster than those that that started around the same time as me. They are still running around in Orange jumpsuits trying to collect Sweat and resell, While I am also collecting sweat, I am hunting, collecting loot and mining. I have made enough to offset the decay of energy cells for my gun, and mining equipment.

Who knows… someday buy a Hanger and sell flights to the Space Stations and possibly the moons and asteroids, if they are developed.

We are starting to get a lot of people from SWG over to PE now it seems. We have old players thats been playing SWG that is returning as well. Anyone know if the player base of SWG is actually increasing or decreasing? Cause it seems like the latest changes there wasnt too well liked..

They are really redoing the whole game. More or less they are dumbing it down so they can port it to the consoles and then they also making it less rpg and more fps. They are also making easier and making it so that everyone can be a jedi in 2 weeks instead of like a year. It made me so mad I dropped it.

I am a big time old timer from SWG. Started on Day 2. Made it through the Jedi revamps 10x’s over. Never went that way though. Was about to drop it from the first CU, but as a WS I held out, made some good money and became a decent name around Sunrunner. First as Ocelotor, then as Phish. Company name was Midnight Industries. But just from about 20 min. in the TS for this latest and greatest CU, I said screw it. About 30 people were in there, and about 20 of them were Jedi Pad’s. They are allowing you to start out as start the game to a point. But in talking to alot of other old timers, they agree that you will get Jedi in 2 weeks tops. With that, I said im out. Like Fish said, it is a crap dumb down. Here is my post and how I felt about it on the SOE forums:

SWG Forums

Alot of people joined it for the mental challenge. Atleast for me it was. Every aspect was great. But now Im just tired of the crap. All the whinning babies that have to use their head to think. I have always stated that if they want that, go back to pong.

But ya Fish, I agree 400 fold.

I was a SWG beta tester… game was ok, never picked it up though. If they are making it siginifcantly worse that it was when I played it I can see why people would drop it. The team aspects of the game were better than entropia, but thats just do to the nature of the real money economy.

Hey Envictus? Did you know Tiggs? She was let go from what the rumors have it. :frowning: When that was posted, EVERYONE knew that crap was rolling down.

Nope, I was not very involved with the community I just played the game for a while. I went and read a little about the changes just now. Its always lame to see more linearity added to MMOs, it defeats the whole purpose. Why even waste the monthy fee if your going to get an experience similar to a regular rpg? I was never a fan of sony though. They are still milking the crap out of everquest 1… that game should just go Free 2 play at this point. Most areas are empty all the time (aside from some of the expansion areas).

BTW if you like complicated skill/crafting systems you might want to try anarchy online. I think they still have a free trial.

That is exactly how I feel about it now. To have a game that is this dumbed down is not what I want to spend $30 a month on when I can take that $30 and put it in here and actually get a return out of it.

Hmmm, really? that good?

$30 can go a long way in entropia but you have to play smart and the profit part is monstly luck.

If your asking if anarchy online is good… Its ok, I don’t play it anymore but I did for a year or so. Its kind of old but they just redid all of the textures. It has very complex character development but the quest system is a bit weak.

Yep, that is what I have been reading on. Heck, even if I were to place $15 in there that is still alot. And its not like I would miss it now LOL Oh, and is it possible to have a cross train? IE Fighter/crafter like in SWG? Or is it one or the other? My lack of time in game because of School would be a factor. So luck for me would be getting on to start with :silly2:

See I dont mind a complex side of things. That is why I loved the Crafting in SWG, especially for Weapons and Armor. Never truthfully loved the quests in there anyway.

All skills built are based on what you do. There really are no set prefessions… There are certain status ranking you achieve in each feild based on your combined skills in that field but there is no limitation and many of the base skills overlap. IE hunting will build some of the same base abilities you need to use the first aid tools but there are also seperate first aid skills.

Ok, when you say first aid, is this like a Medic side or just a minor thing? I know you mention no professions, but if you focused more on First aid, could you be an asset to a group? My GF loves medic.

But what you are saying basicly is that you have the ability to do just about anything, it just all determines how much time you put into it. Correct?

Professions

I have somewhat the same questions, being an ex soe player (eq, eq2, and SWG) I was curious about this cause of all the games I liked SWG the most. Can you have the skill set to mine, Hunt, and Craft (given enough time…)
