Get out of PA

Why is Port Atlantis trade central? I dont know if it’s cause there is newbs there so you figure you can sell more or what. But it realy screwes things up when your new and you keep crashing. Heck it’s pissing me off that i go there to go get new disciples to teach them and it’s crashing I can’t even log back in right now. We should make it illigal or something.

What i think would be good is if the places got bombed by the Robot’s and there was like 3-4 Drone Gen 1’s romming the city with no turrets. And there would only be a tp hidden away in the rubble and it look a lot like Zchion. Then vets could go in there and help rescue the newbs. Would realy add to the role playing element to have PA sort of constantly under Robot attack would be exciting for newbs to start out in a war zone.

And why do you go to get disciples there? Because that’s a city that all newbies know, maybe because that’s were they start there.

Where do you sugest they go and sell their sweat? Twin Peaks? Ithaca? They go to PA because it’s a town that they all (or almost) have that TP. Most new players only get all the other TP’s much later , so it’s a simple question of being the town that everybody knows and has that TP.

The same reason that you have to go there to pick up disciples is because you know that there are a lot of them there

The lag part and crashing is bad … but it’s almost unavoidable. But if you are talking about making things easier for them , then starting the game in a war zone qould be much worse imo.

I’m not sure how it goes now , but if newbies start the game in other towns it could be worse … imagine you starting in Aegis Mound or something like that with nobody around :s So starting in PA it makes sure that there are plenty of ppl around that can help them.

I gotta say, I have no problems in PA. Sure it’s busy but it’s not very laggy and I dont recall crashing while being there.

I’d suggest that it’s not other people that’s the root cause of the problem, it’s much more likely to be your PC.

Whenever I suggest this, people tend to respond with “but my computer is top of the line” or “my computer works great with all other games” or “I’m an IT specialist, it’s not my computer”, but if it works ok for me and not for you, then tell me… can it really be a server issue?

I dont have a probely with PA but i think headsheim is going to waste it’s a realy good looking city with lots of stuff they should move the starting point to headshiem and the traders would all go there.

That would have been a pretty quick way to get me to quit. Getting killed over and over by mobs trapped at the Omegatron TP wasn’t much fun for me after playing four months. Getting killed over and over by Drones when I just got there would have probably gotten me to give up.

Buff up the server a bit, or add another - might help. That said:

I have had things lock up for a bit (up to maybe 30 seconds) while in PA, especially on weekends when it’s busiest. Fairly laggy from time to time, but no crashes.

That certainly can be a factor.

Well, let’s say that “I’m an IT specialist…”

From a basic troubleshooting perspective, when you can’t tell what the problem is directly, you need to eliminate possibilities. For example: you get no signal to the monitor when you turn the computer on. After checking the obvious (is the computer plugged in), you go through a process of swapping and testing. Does the monitor work on another computer? Yes - it’s not the monitor. How about swapping the video card out? Still not working? probably not the video card. Etc…

Using that same logic, then -

Yes, indeed, if it lags or crashes for some people and not for others, then it probably isn’t the server.

OTOH, given that I DO lag, and my system is pretty high-end, I don’t think it’s the client system. At least not directly. (BTW, P4 3.0GHz HT, 800MB FSB, 2GB RAM, 512MB GeForce Video - not absolute top of the line, but it is a year old).

One likely possibility, and I think very likely, given that there are known issues, would be driver conflicts. The only way this could be ruled out or confirmed for sure would be to compare Dirk’s system with ones that do lag or crash - see what hardware, software, and driver versions are installed (and what OS, too), and see if an identically configured system has problems from a location that has had problems in the past. I would be happy to do this, but I don’t have the cash to spare to build a new PC atm

Another possibility would be the internet itself. Remember, we don’t have a direct line to MindArk’s servers. Information being sent to/from PE has to go through probably hundreds, maybe thousands of network connections, and those data packets may not even follow the same path - even if they’re part of the same data stream. Given that the biggest variable affecting your connection would be the current internet usage along the path you connect to the servers, there is almost no possible way to determine how much this affects the situation. About the only thing you could do is connect directly to MA on a physical line and then see what happens with lag.

Something to note - the laggiest times are when PE is busiest, which coincide with when internet usage in general peaks.

I suspect that the issues are this, then:

If you are experiencing lag, it is likely due to your internet connection and the specific data path between you and MA. Of course you would have more trouble in busy places, given that there is more data needing to be transferred. “Crashing” that involves a loss of connection is probably due to this, as well.

Other sorts of crashing - such as a straight CTD where Entropia simply stops, or where you get error messages (I get these now & then), are most likely due to some incompatibility with your drivers & the PE client - PE is trying to do something that your drivers don’t like.

As I understand it, MA is working on the latter. There is nothing they can do about the internet, though. So unless you want a T1 direct to MindArk, you’ll have to live with it.

…At least, that’s my opinion!

I say lets all move to pvp3

…or atleast Omegaton town

or.. we should split it up in more than PA and twin  damn its laggy on those places..

First thing to teach to noobs is to take distance to the biggest crowds.

And turn down graphics/sounds/connection speed etc.

One solution would be to have them spawn all over Eudoria like when PE got Slashdotted..

I entered at Corinth. Didn’t see much of a problem starting there.

When did the spawn spot change to PA?

smart idea even though me and pornstar arnt to well aquiented(however u spell it), he was also the sneaky person that messed the lg up for us  very sly

for crying out loud. :banghead:

When i’m there and the noobs i’m teaching crash come back and crash it’s not good for the game cause they just quit. THATS MY FREAKING POINT! tons of ppl disco when they goto PA you can stand there and watch them.

My question is not why are NOOBS there it’s why are Vet’s there. Most ppl i know that have been playing for a while have not been to PA in months but there are still some ppl i know that have been playing for a while there.

My Point is if your not a newb go to twin peaks or the other cities where other ppl are not PA because it only gives noobs a very bad first impression that PE is laggy and sux.

And i didn’t mean put them in a crazy robot attack just a couple like 3-4 drones running through the ruined city.

Hell we used to have robot attacks on PA and noobs told me they thought it was kewl to walkinto that.

Sorry, Rex, but if you want me to spend less time in PA, give me a better trading location.

I’m not likely to get buyers for Goblin armor parts in Twin Peaks, and frankly, there are mineral buyers in PA almost all the time. Twin Peaks is hit or miss.

When that changes, I’ll happily go elsewhere. Until that changes, I’ll be selling in PA.

Hate to say it…I’m a spammer.

You have to be in order to sell something at PA…hell, if you can’t beat em, join em

I join the one side - PA is the place which is best-known by newcomers and it is logical that they sell their belongings there…

So imho the traders who specialize in the n0ob stuff won’t get out of PA, because there are lot of customers..

Yes agreed.
Rex, I think the issue is more on MA’s side… I’m not going to blame ppl for taking advantage of a lucrative location  I agree that it is a shame when newbs log into game and crash all over the place, and it certainly is not good for the game… but asking ppl to boycott PA is not the solution. The solution is from an IT perspective and is really in MA’s hands

yes, like my boobies since they wont give me my bra back

Do I need to log in to PA and point a video camera at my monitor and record it for 4 hours in a row to prove that there’s nothing wrong???

If a single avatar disconnects, then it’s a client issue, if a while batch disconnect at the same time, then it’s the servers.
