Energy Melee Weapons - Good for crafters, miners and hunters

Background Information

We all know that most energy longblades/shortblades have a extremely bad economy, most of them have around 3.0 Damage Per Pec, compared to a laser weapon, with 4.10 Damage Per Pec in average. And yes, I know that Mindark does not want to modify the stats of an item that is already ingame. So, I thought about this idea:

Reward for crafters, and how

This will indeed reward long-time skilled crafters, as the crafters are a part of this system. The idea is the following, I think that crafters should be able to replace some components in the melee weapons, each weapon would have it’s own “modification” blueprint.

An example of how the system would work

For example, the Survival Enblade-6 has a damage of 26, decay of 8.2 Pec per use and a reload of approx 1.15 seconds. A modification blueprint for the Survival Enblade-6 could contain the following components:
(Components will actually be used again)

10 Advanced Modulator
5 Advanced Matrix
9 Magerian Spray
3 Azzurdite Ingots

It would cost 33.4 Ped in TT value of the components/minerals in order to attempt to modify the Survival Enblade-6. Higher-end items would cost more to modify, the components used will not increase the TT-value of the weapons, it will go directly to the loot pool/Mindark. This is a rather low-end item, and sure, you could fail. But, if you do succed the stats of this weapons will be more balanced, and the name of the weapon will be changed to Castorian Survival Enblade-6 SE or something simular. By balancing the stats, this could mean that the damage is increased or decreased, the reload could also be increased. Let’s say an Survival Enblade-6 would be changed to a damage of 33, decay of 8.15 Pec per use and a reload of 1.35 seconds.

The changes:
The Damage was increased to 33, from 26.
The Decay was decreased to 8.15, from 8.20.
The Reload was increased to 1.35, from 1.15.
The Dmg/Pec was increased to 4.05, from 3.17.
The Dmg/Sec was increased to 24.50, from 22.60

This would turn out to be a great skilling weapon for shortblades. It will also be possible to modify higher-end short/longblades, although they would cost alot more to balance the stats on. The most valueable short/longblade could cost up to 200 Ped per attempt. And, it will not be possible to change back the stats afterwards. I do think the Survival and the Combat series of weapons will be sold for more then TT + 10 if this system is introduced, I doubt they would increase that much in value though, due to the high cost to modify the stats of a weapon.

Why should this new crafting profession/system be implented?

  • With this new system people would be able to hunt with the old series of melee weapons.

  • It will indeed be easier for crafters to make a profit, especially skilled ones, as they will be able to balance the stats of a weapon cheaper then others.

  • More money to the loot pool, the money lost when balancing the stats of an item will go to the loot pool.

  • Mindarks profit will increase, the money lost when balancing the stats of an item will also go to Mindark.

  • Mindarks profit will increase, as the usage of melee weapons would increase, and thus more money for Mindark.

  • Components will no longer be sold to the terminal.

  • Miners will make a higher profit, or less loss, as more ore would be sold for a higher percentage. Ore used to create components and to balance the weapons will be easier to sell.

Actually sounds really good to me! I don’t think anyone even consider using the old melee weapons these days, so why not make it possible to upgrade?

And yeah, components would really be a smart thing to use. I can’t understand that MA had them ingame for really long now without any real use. They should have removed them when they changed the crafting system.

I suggest you send the idea to MindArk!

I’ll leave this thread in GD for a few days, then i’ll move it to the “WishList” forum.

It all sounds great to me. How are the above quoted statements possible though?

We have sub-forums here  , so the main index wont turn into a mess with too many forums.
Look in “About project-entropia”, top of the page.

Great ideas!
I’d love to see some modifications to melee weapons…being a melee guy myself.

Very nice ideas as always recoda :girl:
I can’t think of any reasons why not to implement this system

Another great idea for the crafters… I really do hope that MA will take some of the ideas posted for improving the crafting area and yours is quite interesting since it’s profitable for other than the crafters

Like always, good idea

in the example you list, the Survival Enblade-6 would run about tt+60-100 depending on how good the crafter was with the BP.

33 just for the materials, plus the materials’ markup, factor in failures, etc.

seems like that would be an expensive skilling weapon to me.

any of these upgrades would be very expensive. especially if there wasn’t a market for them.

but, i do love the idea of upgrading them. nice job!

That was only an example, the cost for upgrading the items could be lower, that’s up to Mindark to decide, if they like the idea. I saw Marco was reading this post earlier today, I wonder what he thought about it.

marco was reading it huh? your a sly one! rep for you!

Very good idea Recoda, been having thoughts along similar lines myself.

Here, have a bit of rep for that.
