Just though I would do a check on Ebay for PE and this is what I found
Not sure if seller should be doing this.

You’re right they shouldn’t since they didn’t make the materials. They will try to use the “We are not selling the information-just the time and resources it took to get it” claus. I hope EP will report them to EBAY.
I think the maps and guide are copyright protected, so it is illegal to reproduce them without prior permission and royalties.

Oh shit you found me out !
:scared:
Whats an girl to do after bad loots ![]()
No just kidding
kind of funny lol
Well cant speak for the copy right material but any tips , observations don’t see an legal restriction on it form stopping this person to sell the personal knowledge.
In fact its very common practice in mmorpg’s
Would be cool to find out who this person is, since it’s not his material to sell. Perhaps ebay administration would like to know this.
Oddly enough it has now become a buy it now! perhaps the seller has read this thread ![]()
Do the right thing and remove the cd from sale, it is not your material to sell and make a profit on a 20p CD.
I dont think he’ll get many sales anyway, and your post only serves to advertise the auction.
I’m of the opinion that if information is freely downloadable and accessible on the internet, then it can be packaged up and sold as a set if you prefer a CD with the data to downloading yourself.
Look at linux distributions, you can download a few gig yourself, or you can buy a CD. It seems very similar situation in my opinion. I dont understand why you are so upset about it. Are you under the impression that some of your own work is being reproduced in this sale?
oh my what a scammer and sad attempt =\

With Linux… it’s open source (usually). Also, the CDs are typically sold by those that participated in the writing of it, or the authors have granted permission for re-publication for profit.
Basic copyright law states that any material written is automatically copyrighted by the author, and the re-publication or sale of said material without consent is a violation of that law. That’s why there are citations and reference pages on articles that refer to other author’s works. So your impression that if it’s on the internet, you can sell it, is incorrect.
And I would say that people are upset about it because it’s a negative mark on the community. At least that’s how I see it.
Lol I saw this yesterday too. I feel bad for the people who buy it since all that info is freely available on the PE websites and Forums(in fact probably better information). A few months ago you could find people selling their avatars and peds on EBAY (against EULA) but people still did it. I am sure there is some PE undergound black market out there I know it I just gotta find it. lol jk ![]()

I think there are two very distinct reasons to be upset about this. First and foremost he is selling a completely worthless product to people who don’t know the game enough to be scamaware. I think that is unfair.
Secondly copyright is meant to protect the creators of stuff. The GPL (linux license) specifically allows people to sell linux CD’s. MindArk doesn’t do that. That is their right, since it is their content. Copyright violators should be found and punished. If you don’t agree on that it’s alright by me, but please don’t allow this thread to grow into an intellectual property flamewar.
Even more scary here is another item said e-bayer has sold
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98812&item=5818639416
I wonder what else is on that CD

Firstly dirk, if you take a look at the sellers history for this item, you’ll see that it has sold 266 times.
The license form you are talking about, commonly applied on open source software such as linux, but also on text work and other products is called GNU GPL ( http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html ). The “Guide To Project Entropia” that is sold on ebay is NOT under GNU GPL, it’s copyrighted materail originaly included in the official distribution of the PE client. and there by it’s not his to sell. (Project Entropia is a registered trademark of MindArk AB, see official trademark registration law for details)

I am not upset by it and no there is no work of my own involved, I just don’t see why ppl should be ripped of when the information is free and available from this forum and ppl who have worked hard to supply the information to us new players are not not making profit from sharing their knowledge and experience.
Also the image he has used suggests that Neverdies original usermanual (2004) is included on the disk, I wonder if he will appreciate other making money out of his hard work.
I am almost tempted to buy it just to see what is contained on the disk.
I just think ppl should be made aware that is all.
Lets just buy em all and give negative feedback ![]()
For all I know, the entire content of the old PERC site that Starfinder and I worked so hard on could be on that disk. I just dont mind.
I didnt bother checking the previous sales of this guy because I didnt think it interesting enough.
I know there’s a difference between GPL and just redistributing anything, but my point is the stuff on that disk (at a guess) is stuff that can be found on the internet completely free of charge, so I have a hard time thinking that people will be upset about it.
Does anyone else here get those regional newspapers delivered to their houses, you know, normally made by the local council’s or somthing? They arrive, without charge, free. Let’s say you move out of the area and into a new town and you miss reading that old paper, would it be wrong of me to visit that town every week, knock on everyones door until I find someone willing to give me their copy and then post it to you for a small fee? To sell you the newspaper?
That’s all this guy is doing. He’s gathered up resources from various places, put it all together and it’s yours for a charge if you cant be bothered finding it yourself.
I dont wish to upset anyone, I just dont think this is a big deal.
I didnt even know this stuff was available on CD until Bodybag’s friend Major looted a RL prize in game…maybe its his…I would imagine he could sell it if he wanted to…

A very reliable source tells me it is infact the PE-guide that was included in the release of PE before it was removed. So, it’s under copyright by MA.
