Disciple Overload!

OK so yesterday i was just minding my own business, mining around PA, when i come across a guy in orange juice being beaten down by a daikiba. i went in and killed the daikiba, and we started chatting.

it turns out that hes brand new, has only been ingame for 5 minutes. I dont take on disciples, so i tried messaging my friend to see if wanted one. He said no. So i end up talking with the guy, and he seems really nice, so i offer him an axe, then i just decide ‘what the hell, he seems cool’ and add him as a disciple.

I explained to him how the mentor/disciple thing works, and told him if you dont like me, kick me within 3 days, etc… so we went out and started hunting, and i was showing him the ropes and whatnot.

we ended up at the outpost north of port atlantis, and theres another guy in orange juice. we start chatting, and somehow i end up giving him an axe and adding him as a disciple too!!! what the hell is going on?!

so we go out, hunting a bit, answering questions, etc… then we end up at billys spaceship afterworld. i run into another guy, and hes asking questions, and asks to tag along. he says ‘dont share loot with me, i cant help hunt’, so i said ‘here have an axe’… and i end up adding him as a disciple as well!!!

so all of a sudden, ive got my little n00b squad, and we run around and do some more hunting and getting some tps and stuff. it was a lot of fun.

i dont know how or why i ended up with three disciples in the space of about an hour, when i was never planning on ever having disciples. hopefully i will do well giving them advice and what not.

the first guy i already explained that to have fun, you will need to deposit, and that i cant support him financially, and he was totally gung ho about depositing, and i think hes going to have a lot of fun, and be a great player.

but yeah. im pretty happy and excited, they were all asking intelligent questions, and seemed to really appreciate the assistance. im looking forward to logging on, and seeing them tonight. my girlfriend can make them some jesters, and i can make them clothes, so we can take care of them to a certain extent, just hope they dont need too much financial assitance!

just thought id share that, im glad to see a lot of n00bs still coming into the game, and im glad they ran into me, because i will give them a good impression of the game, and hopefully get them hooked.

Hehehehe :smiley: I feel ya, I do the exact same thing. I dont usually take diciples, I dont go looking for them. But now and then I bump into a poor noob trying to make his was understanding the game. And if he’s polite and nice I answer all his questions. And I think “what the heck” and add him :slight_smile:

Ive made quite a few friends that way :slight_smile: Too bad most of them dont have what it “takes” to stay in PE :frowning:

But I would advise against giving items without some service offered in return - certainly no financial assistance.

I can not understand how some players can claim to have no money but yet they have a computer and an abundance of time!!

But it’s your choice how you raise them so good luck!

in the year I have been playing i have gotten about 8 deciples. Much like you I have never looked for them they kinda fall in my lap. The only problem is like you say they never seen to last. Out of all 8 none are above 13% completetion. Even though I have supplied all with their first wepeon and first colored clothes. Even supplied some with 10 ped worth ammo to help along. This game is a game of extreme patience. And if you cant last through all the painful, boring, monotonious skilling and sweat gathering. Till you get enough skill to either craft or kill bigger mob you just wont hang around. That would be the biggest let down I can think of. And the main reason I dont really take any more deciples. I get tired of showing and teaching. Taking up my own personal skilling and improvement time to show them and then after 3 weeks they quit. I hope your luck is better. But just dont take it personally when 3 of the 4 of them dont make it:)

i dont really agree with the mentor system, because sometimes people need time to find out if they want to play at all… then they are too skilled for discipleship!

but yeah i just decided to give them a try, im hoping for 1 out of 3 to make it at least.

and yes i agree that i will be taking a lot of time out of my own hunting and mining for them, and i may get burned… but what the hell, its worth a shot.

i really wish i had stuck with just the one disciple, he seems really coo, but oh well, we shall see… wish me luck!!!

Every disciple that I’ve had has ended up quitting. The sad part is they were all friends irl and one was even my father! :eek: I don’t look for disciples but, I’m always nice to people (at 1st at least… :evilking: ) and I always try to help. What goes around, comes around. Good luck man. :slight_smile:

Nice to know there are such nice people out there.

I’m a noob (Of course you knew that). I was just wondering if there is a good way to find someone to show you the ropes? I’m not asking for handouts or anything.. I just think I could be more efficient than: Run, find a critter, attempt to sweat until it kills me… Or.. is that about as good as gets for now? :stuck_out_tongue: I also don’t know much about the economy so I don’t know how much sweat it’d take me to be able to afford some sort of weapon and see how that goes.

Someone offered to mentor me when I came back from death and I accepted but then the guy didn’t say anything me for a few minutes so I walked off and dropped him because I heard about people just doing that for the benefits and not offering so much as a piece of advice. I’d just like it if someone could get me on the right path so I can see if I want to stick around before invest any money into this. Sorry if this is a little inapropriate for this thread but I figured asking a group of folks who sounded like good mentors would be a good place to start asking about it. Thanks!

Nice people are out there, just that there are bad guys in “both ends” in the mentoring-world. People make several avatars so they can pretend to be noobs and beg stuff from their mentors.. and mentors are taking advantage of noobs that dont know better then to accept mentorship and have no idea what it is.

Im glad to see you dumped that mentor!
Remember, before you find a good mentor you shouldnt get skills, or else a mentor cant add you. Also you should get a mentor thats plays the same times as you do and are active alot.

i have given away a lot of full axes and ammo to noobs(duh..listen to me..only playing for 3 months and calling others noobs;))..and adviced them,but never even thought about adding them as disciple,must start doing that,because a good (yeah..im not very modest)enthusiastic mentor can make a world of difference..it did for me anyway

Mentoring? Disciples? Whuts that? :laugh:

The mentor system is a good thing but from time to time it’s being used by people with no ethics. It’s nothing new and will never go away. Human nature at it’s worst. I’ve only had one disciple(still has come to think of it) It’s an irl friend and he’s doing great! 30%-ish in about a week :dunce:
