Custom Box Config- Please Comment

Hey. I’m putting together a custom box to play PE and WOW at home. (no more alt-tab when the boss walks in the room). Below is a list of the components I am planning to put together. Could you folks take a look and let me know if there’s any potential conflicts between these components, or if there’s a compareable product of equal or less cost that would work just as well?

Motherboard/CPU: BioStar Combo w/AMD Sempro 2200, NIS2004 $129CDN
Video: ATI Radeon 9200 SE, 128MDDR $45CDN
Memory: 512M DDR 333 $49CDN
HD: Maxtor 40GB $54CDN
CD: Aopen 56xCD-ROM $20CDN
Case: Generic Case $20CDN

My main goal is to make this happen on a budget. Trying to come in under $400CDN for everything, including assembly charges.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I would invest 1-2GB ram and some silent case. Nexus Breeze for example.

And of course you need 120GB HDD for HoF screenies

and some earphones, u don’t want those snablesnots to yell to whole neighbourhood:))

May I ask a question too??
I have a ATI 9600 SE & 512 RAM and PE doesn’t always run properly, I need time to see teleporters and buildings for examples, does it come from RAM or from graphic card??

get another 1gb of ram if you can afford it or another 512 would make things run better

More memory… I run on 2.5 Gig at home, which seems to do the job

And maybe a keyboard and mouse ?

ok ty
I think I’ll buy 512 RAM, It’s cheaper now.

I’ve got all the peripherals (mouse, KB, monitor, speakers etc) taken care of already. I’m canibalizing those from a previous system. Just need the CPU.

i run a machine with only a 30gig HD drive so depending on what you do with your machine 40gig will suffice as long as you dont mind un-installing games etc when your finished with em

looking at your choice of gfx card though, i dont know how cheap $45cnd is,
but the ‘SE’ range of radeon are the bottom of the line budget range, if for a few dollars more you can get a card thats not SE it may be worth considering, as it would have much faster memory on it

just an idea

No matter how cheap this is, it’s a waste of $. Use the built in graphics chip and spend the $45 on more RAM instead.

Since VU 7.4 I haven’t had much luck with built in graphics chips.
