I’m new to the game (5 days now) and have spent my days sweating to learn the value of a ped and just made my deposit. I want to get into crafting as my secondary profession (or primary with hunting as secondary…everyone loves to hunt). I’m simply trying to figure out where skills match upthe most and where to get the best bang for my buck. I was originally gonna go weapon crafting as that goes well with hunting, but I need alot of mining materials to do that crafting. However, tailoring goes very well with hunting as all my required resources I can get from hunting. Any suggestions? I do know tailoring is hard and expensive, and most likely there are tons of weapons manufacturers out there…so they both have their pitfalls. Do alot of people use the weapons that are crafted? Alot of people buy clothes? Just trying to find an economical niche till the ads come along and help out the economy. Thanks ahead of time for any input.
All crafting is a money sink when you have no skills. There are lots of good threads about crafting, try using the search button
All of them suggest starting off your crafting career with basic elec/mech parts like filters etc. This will give you a base of skills including engineering which is used across all crafting area’s. They are cheap to make, so good for skilling.
Tailoring skills are rare. If you think a production run of a few 100 peds worth of materials and getting only a handfull make clothes or tailoring skill gains is worth it then gl to you. Its a long hard path. Hopefully with VU 7.8 this might of changed, we will see. Either way be prepared to put in plenty of capital to fund your skilling.
See this thread… and seriously take the advice of those that have come before you. Crafting is NOT easy and can be (usually is) very expensive:
I appreciate the quick replies. I do totally understand crafting (like everything in this game) is a money sink. I did not know, however, that crafting filters would be useful for tailoring. So I know where to start no matter what to craft eventually. I have read most of the threads in this forum. That’s the sort of player I am, gather info and then make the choices. I am prepared to sink in more money as time goes by just like any mmorpg. I do see people wearing crafted clothes, but do people use the crafted weapons or are the pickups the better ones?
People use both looted and craftable weapons. My Katasuichi Honor is ONLY available by crafting IIRC. Still as I understand it crafting basic filters is the first step to tailoring clothes as you will get skills at a cheaper price that affect the success of your tailoring clothes. Maybe someone can confirm that but that is what I have read I believe.
Thing is lots of people get in this game and think “wow, Im gonna go make a fortune crafting weapons” but it doesnt work that way.. you have to ‘skill up’ in the related areas before you will be successful enough to not just be throwing away PED. Be careful and smart as it seems you are and you will be fine.
Good luck!
Thanks again for the helpful info. But if someone could verify the usefullness of crafting your basic filters/dampers for all crafting professions it would be appreciated by not only me but by all the community. It’s always goodto know exactly what to start on no matter where you plan on ending up. I can (logically) see the point of crafting mechanical stuff when you’re gonna go into other simialr mechanical things (i.e. weapons) but it makes less sense for tailoring…but if it’s usefull it’s usefull. So if anyone can give a yes or no please do.
Id like to get in on this thread since I am a noob crafter too.
I have been following the advice given here and in other threads.
My question is in relation to unlocking BP Comp. is it better to skill just Mech bp’s? Or is it good to spread yourself out over Elec. Metal and Mech?
