Comp freezes up within 5 mins.....

…of being in PE??? Only way to qain access of anything is reboot.

All my drivers are up to date.

My powersupply popped the other night, so I replaced it with a new one, Antec 430 watt`er. Could my GFX card taken a hit when that happened???

if so…How can I tell if its about to go???

Please help!!! :scared:

Does your screen get kinda striped looking? If so, I’ve been having the same problem…I think it might be a heat issue with the graphics card..not sure though?

No, everything just freezes…no warning whatsoever…

Yeah..that’s what mine is doing but, something also happens with the display. It’s wierd. Anyway, It could still be a heat issue. If you put a larger power supply in than you had before…It’s really just a guess bro. I’m just throwing stuff out there til one of the uber puter geeks chimes in with something concrete. Good luck man.

Thanx dude, ill take anything at this point. I actually have a feeling my GFX card is on the way out. I logged off in Peaks, when I login, I have hella lag. Funny thing, I bought this card not too long ago

Maybe I can get a trusty soc member to log me in and move me to Fury and see if it still happens

If I ask support…may not get there till July :frowning:

Don’t give up on the card yet man. If it’s not that old…it could be a lot of things. I would try the simple stuff first. Clean up your HD, defrag, virus scan, yada yada yada. Then, like you said, try to get your avy moved…maybe it’s the server your on. I would really check the heat thing, your new PS makes me think it could be related.

yea if a powersupply popped.. i suggest taking a vaccuum to the inside of the PC.. smell the MB, does it smell burnt? does the videocard smell burnt?

if its stalling while in PE or any other high-memory intensive app I’m inclined to say try swapping your ram chips out.. take them all out, then put them in one by one and try playing PE for longer than 10 mins.. when you find the one that crashes your box, .. dont use it anymore. =)

i’m assuming this is an otherwise recent problem and you havent changed anything else (other than the powersupply?)

Yeah, but I only went up 10 watts. My old one was 420, new one is 430. Just blew out all the heatsinks too. Plus, my comp is “open”. Had defragger analyze HDD, said it didnt need defragging, I keep my HDD pretty tight.

Pm`d a soc mate on Skype, told him to move me when he gets my message, he wasnt logged in yet. Gonna talk to Scorp tonight and try some stuff.

Wish there was some kinda diagnostic check I could run on my card :frowning:

Well, just tried to run another high GFX game and it too froze up… :frowning:

I figured you knew all that anyway. You seem like a geek-in-hiding like me. Dash has a good idea there. Memory is often the culprit. Not sure about diags for your card…anybody?

It could still be your main RAM…or it could umm…errr…be your video card…(cough cough)

Think Im gonna call the PC place I bought it from and ask for a replacement. Card aint even that old…maybe 4 months…

I have seen this happen on other PCs and the culprits has been almost always the same.

  1. Pull your RAM out and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. Even the high dollar sticks with Gold contacts will oxidize over time.

  2. Reseat your CPU. Yeah I know it sounds far fetched but it worked on one PC..lol

  3. Check the HD connectors. Pulll em out at the HD and the Mobo and reseat them.

  4. Re-check you PSU with a multimeter. Don’t assume that its ok even if its brand new. I’ve seen PSUs come out of a box that weren’t working right.

Well, I rebuilt everything not too long ago, like 4 months, new mobo, RAM, CPU, along with the card. Think Ill try replacing the card first, that is, if the place will rplace it 4 me. Then Ill dig and try your TS ideas, DS.

Keep the ideas comming though, please…

Just to chime in on DS’s ideas…you may have loosened something while putting in the PS…make sure everything is snugged up…
