Class of Player

I seem to notice that the class of player on PE if far better than that of other online games. To use a comparison Runescape witch is very diffrent to PE but still an MMORPG seems to be populated by very sad and anoying people with notthing better to do than trying to anoy other players. Whilst playing PE (witch I have been for about 6 months) the only things that I have found to anoy me, besides Marco’s promises is the occtional begger who dident realy understand the game and the exstreamly rare kill stealer and my extreamly rare i mean like twice.

So why is it that the class of player in PE is so good ? My personal opinion is that is because the learning curve to get into the game the very steap meaning that it is hard to get into the game there for eliminating the “low qoulity” player rite at the start.

What are you opinions on this ?

Hmmm- not certain but I also feel that it has something to do with the extent of interraction required in PE compared to many other mmorpg’s… in PE, so much has to do with trust, networking, trading, etc… skills that require that most of us be fairly mature individuals… not all, but most

I think it has a lot to do with the age of the players. Older people are generally more mature, and the people that can afford to get to the point where they can harass those with lesser skills and equipment are generally older. There are always exceptions though of course

I think the game takes some intellect. and maturity. Most pf the range i have seem is above the age of 18. Where we find things entertaining. most kids would find mundain. I like the ability to decide how busy I wanna be in the game i can just hang out or have a thrill of hunting. I am not much for chatting i like visiting and talking to peeps and i think you can also bond with others here. I have had run about every emotional gambit in this game and that seems to be my attraction. Most kids havnt developed enough mentally to form thiose kinda bonds. And I also have to say I have found the same here in the forums too. alot of informative bright peeps who love to help others when they can. I would thank them all but would take months to do. We have a real good group of people and if you read this I would say include yourself in this thank you I am giving.

aside from your dig at MA about marco… you are mostly correct. its usually only newbs that are rude.

its the real money aspect. if youre depositing real money, youre taking it seriously. i dont think mommy would be thrilled with you draining her credit card into the game… for the younger set there are games with a set monthly charge.

I would have to agree with you in most cases about the age but iam actuly on 16 today

The maturity level of most of the players I have met is astounding, so I beleive that is why PE is not chock full of griefers.

PE is a very Complex game Socialy and economically and much of what you know irl helps in PE.

I have noticed that since i first started (Dec 03) and now alot of really rude noobs hardly surface anymore…odd.

And the beggars semed to have dropped off a bit too…hmmm

Tru Dat…`n Rep!!!

Personally, I beleive that the community in the beginnning laid the groundwork. It was a small group of dedicated players that helped to build this game and the “rules” that we all operate by. As it grew they initiated newcomers to what is and is not acceptable behavior. Because the game has grown steadily at a nice pace (not too fast) it has never gotten out of control. This sort of “Community Law” has just expanded and grown into what we see now. A large community that operates like a small tight knit group.

So, in summary, those few initial player (Adam and Eve if you will) were good people with great vision and ethical sense of how to build this virtual universe.

Totaly agree which is why i think it is so important for us to keep it up.

I’m in agreement with most of what’s been said so far. The real money factor, age and maturity level of players, the example set by the ‘Entropian Forefathers’ are all to be credited for this. Another factor, imho, is the fact that PE is contantly evolving. A lot of that negative behavior in other games comes from boredom. FOM for example. Nice graphics, interesting concept…nothing much to do right now. Hence, you have people running around killing everybody they see because there’s nothing else to do. PE doesn’t get boring because it changes every month. My :twocents: .

OT: i played that too… but within four days, i had become one of the top-20 richest people in-game :frowning: out of–what, almost a millon? and all because i use my head while gaming. so i quit…

and thats one of the things i think that make PE more attractive for an older audience… it requires time (a LOT of time), patience, and money (and if you dont put money into it, it takes A LOT more time and patience  )…those arent something that, say, the average 14-year-old is going to put into his gaming…
the person, themself, also has to acquire a good reputation in order to be considered an upstanding member of the community. you cant just blow 500$ of rich-ass daddys money, and be respected… i have, however, met several people who are just that: young kids with endless access to daddys credit card. and you know what? noone knows them. sure, theyre freaking powerful in-game… but theyre also immature little upstarts, and for that, they cant totally interact with the mainstream of this game… which tends to be intelligent (judging by the fact that most are multilingual) and mature… most of all, most people on PE pull their own weight; theyre responsible enough with their own money in RL that they can also be responsible with it in VR… and not, say, beg or scam.
i dont know, but maybe the fact that it isnt as much a chat-based system also affects things… in alot of games, you can simply add strangers to a personal chat list without them knowing… and from then on, message, and perhaps harass, them anytime you want… you also cant public chat an infinite amount with strangers, since there are only 244,000 people who play this game. theyre spread out over a great distance, not all in one place… again, it takes TIME to get to know people.
and of course, theres always the fact that MA CATERS towards a more mature audience (read: richer audience), and does such things as making it harder for youngsters to join, or at least play long-term, and kicks scammers (and beggars too, recent trends might dictate)…

i am 15, but isnce i play this game i hardly play any other, since this is the ONLY game ive found so far that has INTELLIGENT people running around. and most of them are friendly too. its just sad that i dont have a couple of more friends of my age, but i got great friends of older ages (example belfegor, hennaen, stonecold, and alot more) who help me alot, even as they dont always have time, they will mostly answer my questions or help me out if i have an problem.
and also, in other MMORPG’s most ubers are very rude… but in here, heck, most ubers are even nice to noobs, or middle classed players (im a middleclassed player, but also a noob on some things). i think its also very good of MA to get atleast 1 update a month, becouse that will keep most people from PKing everyone in sight. (they just need to fix RT killing) also becouse of the money aspect its hard to survive this game so only the nice, wise, (and rich) people will survive in the long term. (or u must have been a beta player, and got all nice stuff from the start  but thats just a smaal group of people) also, the respect that goes to everyone, from noob to uber, but even from (most) ubers to noobs is rarely found in other games.

sorry for the long post and perhaps some double chat

Not surprising - The news over the Treasure Island sale brought a LOT of new people in to check things out, and a lot of the wannabes who begged a lot, or were just plain rude, either got out of the habit quickly, or dropped out of the game. Now, we just have the usual trickle, which has it’s share of beggars, but the sheer mass that we had before isn’t there anymore.

Yeah..the TI sale brought alot of people in..and to be honest I met and helped quite a few.

They are doing great now. Heck, I’ve seen a few starting to hof on a regular basis…

waaaaahhhh!!!..

I’m what you could call young(-er then most other PE players..)

…and most of my irl friends think I’m wierd to liking PE, I call them wierd :loco:

I guess it’s because PE has no “goal” to reach in combination with the “18 year age limit” and the whole money aspect(no freebies.. well..) that lures more mature players(not nessesarily older) :wise:

Of course PE has a lot of not-so-mature players joining(which, I belive, mostly consists of younger players for a reason or two  ) but they all leave when the “free game” didn’t turn out to be as free as they though it would

indeed. its just like i said, im just 15, but cough i can play this mature game quite nicely cough

edit:
oh and i think im one of the very few of my age people that are playing this game ALOT. i mean, most people of my age that i have seen before have quit.
and i play since end of september 2004. i know about 1 that is sometimes coming back but he is not playing regulary. and most people of my age cant deposit or just a little. wich means that they mostly quit.

I think it’s all got to do with survive.
As we know PE is a hard world (not for some of the uber lucky one’s, but for most of the people ingame, it’s surviving with the ped’s you have).

Surviving individually is harder then surviving in group. In order to survive in group you have to be able to build social networks, have a certain level of maturity and set some personal rules of interaction (faith, trust, honesty), all of which are important for you to evolve and survive to the maximum extend that’s possible within your own capabilities.
As some already said, a lot of (social/behaviour) ‘skills’ you use IRL are used in PE.
If you don’t have those ‘skills’ as mentioned above you will have a harder time and you wont survive as easy. Moreover, if you aren’t faithfull, trustfull or honest, you will undergo the concequences of your actions (getting a bad reputation / name), as a result, rendering out unumerous possibilities and slowing down your own progress.

*Added :
So in order to play PE you have to be attracted to this. A lot of young people don’t want that kind of complexity (yet) and don’t see the fun in it, whereas elder and mature people do like it more.

imho,

Tig
