I read about many of you studying, at uni/college school etc but what are you studying? and what plans if any do you have for the future?
Do you have a set career in mind? Do you have a career already?
I had a wonderful dream! it involved hacking, working for the government etc etc
i studied for the following:
āMsc Health Informaticsā - Basicly mixing IT+Healthcare/research/Biology
āBsc Computer Scienceā - The usual nonsense, no industry specific skills, but i centered mostly on AI models.
I have completed the following certifications among others:
Lotus Notes/Domino 6 - CLP - Certfied Lotus Professional Admin
Micro$oft certifications - MCSE 2003 security specialization, MCSA.
Cisco - CCNA
So, where did all this get me? Well, i working in the movie industry for a couple of years on the Bond films, doing Telecine work which was fun
Too many short term contracts though, i couldnt hack not having $$ off and on, so i quit and have spent the last couple of years managing IT projects within the NHS - National Health Service which included 45+ hospital around the UK.
The future!
I have recently been offered a job relating to the implementation of a 1.3TF Grid computing system for a āPrivateā company in London City.
Wheee gratz on the job offer Kalashi. You gonna take em up on it?
Iām a technical support analyst for IBM at present :rolleyes:
I need more of a challenge thoughā¦ I like IT and have been into computers since a very young age. I still remember the look on my Nanaās face when she bought me my Amstrad CPC464 with loads of gamesā¦ I opened up the User Manual and started writing little programs :laugh: (gads Iām geeky for a girl :rolleyes: ) I was only about 10 or so.
So the IT career it is for me!
In the future? Iād like to study Ethical Hacking (White Hat Hacking) and get paid loads of cash to do it
I am trying to get a job as personal assistant to handicapped kids, tried it as a interm and I liked it. Feels good to make a difference in someones life

Journalism is great! although i tend to find the work i did was always having to fit around āwhoā you were writing for, ie the target audience, rather than what you actually wanted to write :mad:
But as far as creativity goes, attack! get as far as you can go and have as much fun as possible! whatever comes from your heart should always make you happy
Im trying to graduate next winter. Iāll be Master of Science in Technologies with usability engineering as major subject.
So far I have done quite weird collection of jobs. I have done some modeling, written articles and novels, translated programs (especially help files), taught using Photoshop and some other image processing softwares.
Future? Well Im waiting to see if I get position as a researcher trainee at one company and if I like working enough. If I dont, I guess I dont have a choice but to aim for Doctor of Science.
In any case Iāll probably go on travelling and trying to learn new languages. So far I have studied 5 foreign languages but I want to make it 10.
I also plan to get something finally done with my acryl colors and get some of my novels soldā¦ maybe even write a proper book.

hehe well thats true. The work I did was aimed at youths/teens so the work I usually did was about that.
I also forgot to mention I got offered a job in a online-magazine about metal and rock.. But I had to say no, had too much to do then allready. I kind of regret that, as I would like to work in a printed metal-magazine some day maybe..
Wow im like the lowest qualified here, just got my GCSEs, couldnt be fucked with college of 6th form because you dont need it to become a commercial pilot, thats what i wanna do, eventually when i get the dosh (Ā£65,000). Before then wanted to join the Royal Navy as an Engineering Officer, cant tho because i wear contact lenses :eek:

Currently Iām studying to become Master in Electromechanical Engineering ( Iām in my 3rd year out of 5 ), still donāt know in what directin though. Could be Transport Technology, purely Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical, Robotics,ā¦
Have to make up my mind next year.
The jobs I did mostly revolved around computers, building custom pcās, working as support at my uncleās multimedia store ( debugging, reinstalling, repairing and whatnot ).
Last job I had ( 2 years in a row, couldnāt last year, because of I had to redo some exams ) was as an assistant Network Supervisor.
Well Iām writing this whilst at work, so gives you an idea of how exciting it is
Seriously though, let Uni after a BSc in Comp. Sci. and worked for a company developing websites and internet widget. Although these days it seems more like cutting and pasting from Excel Spreadsheets
My future plans is to run my own business. Not sure what yet, although I do have a website thats working on Fair Trade stuff at the moment.

Hmmm they mustve changed that thenā¦ I have quite a few pals who went to the RN Engineering College and got their stripes, who wore glasses or lenses - that sux :mad:
Well most of u seem to have your heads screwed on right and are getting all the education you can it is a wise plan my sister went down that road and now has a good job as an IT rep for a big firm based in Chicago travels the world and makes damn good money doing it.
I on the other hand did not go for a good education, but I am not a really good student anyways better at hands on type learning I work in the construction industry I hold journeyman status as a sheet metal worker and numerous welding certifications as well as being a qualified welding inspector and presantly training to do non-destructive metal/welding testing. All of this learned on the job or self taught I go home everynight with dirty hands and a sore back so I always tell people although the path i took is hard and rewarding if i had my time back i would not have chosen it.

Hmmm- My formal education came in the form of a a bachelors of arts at a major US uni. I studied Russian and Eastern European studies (language, literature and history) for three years as well as all of those lovely pre-reqs in science, math, lit, etc. My BA is, however, in the history dept.
My final year at the university proved to be the most intellectually fulfilling and I began studying the Baltic region (ya knowā¦ Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania ). I am long done with my degree but hope to go for my masterās in International Studies once my son is in school. I do currently return to some of my favorite classes (I live up the road from my alma mater) for funā¦ yes, Iām a complete dork I know
Currently my job has nothing to do with my education. Although I must say I do not necessarily mind. I went to school for an education, which I received Would be nice, however, to obtain an MA or Phd and utilize those skills
I donāt know where you live, but with a CCNA & MCSE, you should have no problem pulling down $75k + with a full-time, non-contract position. Around me, there are dozens of openings every day for that sort of cert.
I just wish I could afford to take the certifications
I finally got my A+ a couple years ago. Sat down & did both tests back to back in about 40 minutes. Everything Iām looking at asks for an MCSA or better, and I just donāt have the money atm.
Just got turned down for one job because Iāve been self-employed too long. Apparently initiative and enterprise are qualities that are frowned on in the corporate world. :mad:
Of course, I wouldnāt be in that position if I didnāt have an idiot boss who decided to fire me because I told him that a CD-ROM was missing! :mad: :mad:

Good luck on that career path. Itās probably the most competitive and toughest career choice you could make. But, it can be very rewarding.
If you ever get into the LA area working on something, let me know. Iāve made some local TV programs, a couple shorts and one feature. Right now Iām trying to get the money for a TV pilot that Iām certain would be a big hit. But thatās a S-L-O-W process
Career goals? At this point, itās become āto pay the billsā
Iām in my second year biomedical sciences at uni. I think Iāll specialise next year in molecular genetics/developmental biology. What happens after that I donāt know yet. My plan is to make a difference in my field someday :yup:

firstly, its not all about the money trust me
I left 2 positions in the past paying 90kus$+ annual
my previous job was a 6month contract for a local government civil service and i was paid 58kus$ for the project, it was quite possibly the most boring time of my life.
Finding employment is not the problem, deciding what i want to do and what makes me happy is, im lost stillā¦

I didnt pay for any of my training save for some Macromedia courses.
They have all been on the job training to prove/backup my sefl taught skills to that particular employer.
I refuse outright to pay Mickey$oft any money just to take multiple choice exams and i urge others to look elsewhere also :silly2:
