Can someone help me?

hello all,

I face the following prob, which leaves me pretty desperate:

Since I have this new pc running win xp home on it, I cannot connect to the login page anymore.

Well, I have deactivated ALL firewalls (XP + NIS) and NAV is also deactivated.

When I hit the pe icon on my desktop, the condition of use page pops up - I accept - and then it says: “contacting the server” - but nothing happens. I am not forwarded to the login page, where you have to insert PW and login-name, no error msg, simply nothing, I keep on starring at this bluecoloured XP-desktop screen. But as soon as it comes to an update, the update is downloaded to my pc. So in this case there seems to be a contact to the server. If I want to play the game, something seems to block the access to the login page, though my firewalls are deactivated. I never experienced this with my former PC (Win ME on it)
Any suggestions? Any ideas?
Thank you very much!

no idea, but i have a somewhat similar problem…
after getting the login screen and clicking “launch PE” i get to the in-game screen, then everything goes black… then i get a “an error has occured with PE.exe”, and everything shuts down. i can only login without error about every other day, and then after a couple hours, it has the same error and shuts down.
i too use windows XP.
i know its not exactly the same problem, but… if i find out the answer to mine, ill tell you. maybe its a similar problem…

I have the same problem It logs me in everytime however. I think it may deal with the drivers once VU 7.3 is released hopefully utilizing the new ATI drivers it won’t happen. It didn’t start til 7.2 came out for me. So check your video drivers

youre probably right… but i dont have a ATI vid card, i have a NVIDIA (or whatever it is) and the driver REFUSES TO DOWNLOAD CORRECTLY, dammit… if you have any ideas on how to get that correct, ill shower you in reps
j/k

Okay firstly, I know you say you have a new PC… but is it new? What I mean is, did you buy a complete new system? Or did you upgrade your operating system from ME to XP?

If this is a brand new hardware setup bought straight from the shop, then I suggest upgrading all drivers as even if your system is top of the range, I can guarantee your drivers are ancient
Also, dont forget to visit microsoft.com to get all the latest security updates and patches. If all else fails… re-install PE

If, however, you have upgraded your operating system, then I suggest a re-install of PE as some files may have been corrupted during the install that is after doing all the other stuff I mentioned above…

And I hope you’ve done a bloody reboot before panicking

I was told that some poeple are having problems with the new update for nvidea drivers. i went and reloaded them fron the site not using the newis which it a version 7 and instead redid the 69 version and seems to be working fine now. might try that.

one other question you are able to log into the internet just fine arnt you. just to rule it out being a modem issue.

Vemon, I didn’t bother to ask about connectivity to the internet seeing as he posted on here. I know he could be using a different machine, but if that’s the case then he really should have stated that he had no connection whatsoever :tongue2:
But yeah the video drivers may be the issue… I think it’s pretty ridiculous though that you need to chop and change drivers just to play one sodding game

I use the latest nVidia drivers and PE is okay for me. Definitely worth a try tho… sounds more like a networking issue with the PE config files though, in which case a re-install should sort them out

And Devil Doll… whats wrong with a bloody reboot? hides

ive personally tried reinstalling the drivers, PE, and rebooting more times than i can count (on all accounts)… it doesnt do s**t :D…
but still, noone is suggesting ideas on how to get the driver working. i do c++, not windows  i hate computers lol…

I think the gfx driver issue is a non-issue to be honest

I have an ATi aiw 9800 with techpowerup latest softmodded drivers and PE works fine, even tho the CL says “not meeting the requirements”

I would not even dream of installing older drivers to run one game, as everything else on my system works just peachy. If that was the case I would leave PE in a minute

I know others though, who have had the same problem, after VU7, but before VU7.2

Solution? They redownloaded PE from ftp://ftp.projectentropia.com (always a good idea to have a backup of the game anyway, rather than having the CL download it every time you do a system clean)

Whether it was a corrupt file in PE, I dont know. All I know is that it fixed the problem

Hope this helps :wise:

Sorry Zasz, I wasnt aiming that support at yourself…

Personally, in your case, I think you should take the side (or top) off your base unit and reseat your RAM after giving the gold contacts a gentle wipe.. while you are in there reseat all your cards and cables as your problem sounds like a hardware issue

I normally wouldnt use older driver either but mindarc says the new vid drivers are havinhg issues with the game. it was one shot in the dark. I have other ideas but it would also be involving if they have “webroot spy sweeper” it has to kinda autherise the ability to allor the game to connect. Another one that seems to effect is if you have macafee’s firewall you also have to add it in there atconnect. if thats not the case. and you have thos eprograms disables this would be the last thing to check.

Under internet options look at you authentication and internet setting make sure you dont have the securtity setting to high there. that might also block you from getting on to just certain pages. that would be my last though as to what could cause the problem. In a last ditch effort try system restore . i would even go back to the first restore you have. That might work as a last resort. Occationally the game has a file that will corrupt and that might have happened. If it worked at anytime . try a date before that and see if that works. Hope this helped

You might try to run PE on the older Pc, and on the same internet connection. (if u still have that pc). This way you’ll be certain that you don’t have a connction problem. And if this doesn’t solve anything it’s best to format the Hdd, and to install every software from scratch. and always remember to keep every software updated.(meaning windos, drivers, anti-viruses and all). I really don’t think it’s a hardware problem, if you got to the login page. A good thing to know is how the other software (games) work on that new Pc.

I had troubles with the CL and error messages popping up too. What helpt me was (after checking for latest drivers) to do a system cleanup. Dunno under what Start category it is because i got XP in dutch, but i think its under Accessories. Anyway its along with the windows defragmenter program.

Check how large your temporary internet files are, mine grew huge after crashing. Im not sure if this is the reason but after doing a cleanup my problems were solved. Before formatting and re-installing try system cleanup, defragment and error-check.

Hope it helps, if it didnt at least you now have a nice clean PC. :silly2:

A re-install of the operating system??? Don’t you think that’s a bit drastic? Besides, it’s a brand new install of an OS… I think upgrading drivers and updating OS with microsoft.com would be the sensible thing to do.

Keep the troubleshooting sensible because this person may take your advice

Anyone who re-installs an operating system after diag like you suggested must be mad

hey that just brought something to mind. When you did the new os install. Was it a reg version of windows. And most important here did you install The sp2 for the xp? I remember having the same exact problem. just came to me when I downloaded the service pack 2 from windows. It also messed up my yahoo messenger. Check that I will almost bet that is your problem. Will bet 100 efd that will fix it. If you can remove the sp2 install. Will work fine.

Did you just uninstall PE as in Selecting uninstall from the start menu or did you do an uninstall from the start menu, Erase the mindark file that still remains after you uninstall and then reboot your computer after the uninstall? Try the second methond (uninstall, erase mindark file, reboot) and see if that helps. i had the same problem and it wasn’t fixed untill i did this. You can give me rep after you get back in pe

Vemon, I wouldnt suggest un-installing SP2. Sp2 contains vital security patches.

I see what you’re saying though about some programs becoming corrupt after installation of this. To resolve, simply re-download the program you are using to update any SP2 specific config files which may relate to the corrupt software.
