I’d like to see the component bp’s used to be able to build vehicles amongst other things. There are nearly enough components to assemble such (engines, nuts and bolts etc) and you could add components such as tires.
I think stuff like vehicles should be quite tough to make (certain level of engineering mechanics etc), and the parts should decay at different rates, else there’d be too many. You should also be a high level mechanic/engineer to repair them, which would give meaning to those skill areas and create new jobs.
Imagine the fun should your tires or engine blow near the rig and you didn’t take any spares or a mechanic sufficiently trained to repair the vehicle. Imagine the fun teasing spiders - stop accelerate stop accelerate
In any case we should be able to make something out of filters and all the other low end components (the more the merrier), as as been mentioned in another post. I don’t care how long it may take to build something from assembled components (100+ different components to make a ground vehicle sounds good) - once done the satisfaction will be great (watch the paint job sonny jim). Please bring back meaning to component crafting.
I think oil would do for fuel (it works ok for the spaceships). Rubber for the tires would be needed though.
It would be just great if MA could follow up on these suggestions. I think ground vehicles or boats and planes would need careful consideration though as too many would probably cause too much lag - still something I’d love to see. The physics would be quite challenging too I should imagine.
Dash’s suggestions would be good too. But when it comes down to it for now I’d be happy with sticking a few nuts and bolts on a filter and calling it a tray.
Hovercraft would be so cool, and a lot easier to implement as you suggested.
They could even fashion hover craft parts out of most of the current component bp parts. To construct a hover craft part should take a certain skill level (+ the required components) and as you become more adept at engineering & mechanics & electronics you can then build more advanced hover craft parts until you reach a skill level whereby you can then construct a hovercraft type from the hovercraft component parts. Once you have reached that level you also unlock a vehicle repair skill.
This would create a few different jobs (hover craft builder/repair man, driver, tour agent/guide, hover craft gun emplacements for passengers?) and the learning gradient allows people to sell their hovercraft parts (made from components) as they go along (the hovercraft parts would decay, and there’d certainly be a demand for parts and even the low end components which the hover craft parts would be made of).
Can someone start a we want hover craft petition to MA?
they could provide a limited quantity of chasis either looted or bought in a new building type, a garage…
each chasis could then need parts to build a vehicle..
a new blueprint type would be needed to make different vehicles.. ( ie goods vehicle - slow but with a large load capacity.. personel transport, 8 seats and fast but no cargo space.. armour transport - heavy and slow but very tough.. )
you put the required vehicle blueprint into the terminal in the garage and it gives you a list of parts needed..
over time and with damage from mobs, parts break down and need to be replaced, at your garage ( providing a market for components..)
to change a vehicle into another type, you could put in a new blueprint and it strips it back to the chasis to be built again, losing parts in the stripdown ( so it costs to change your mind.. )
alternatively, you could purchase new chasis from the garage terminal and make another vehicle type.. if your garage is big enough…
