Blueprint Comprehension

Can someone please tell me what blueprint comprehension is? I’ve read of it in a few threads, but no one has said what it actually is :frowning:

Thank you

Blueprint comprehension is a skill u obtain wen crafting. I personaly dont have it yet(but hope to get it soon  ) but it unlocks wen u get about 1.5K in engeniering.

I think it’s like 1.5k in some manufactureing, cuz I have like 2k in engineering and I “aint” got it yet

You get it when you become qualified constructor - it doesn’t depend on one single skill. (i got it with 1k engineering)

My theory is that it acts as a bonus to your engineering skill, thus giving you better chance of success on blueprints.

Conclusion

It seems like a pretty useless thing if people are guessing at what it does?

I noticed when i got it that it gives me a higher CoS on all my blueprints so i would say its a very usefull skill.

Best wishes/Pirro

anyone gotten this from skilling mechanical equipment components? or is it just from tools and armor and suchlike? thanks. I have about 1K in eng and mech comp

i got it from mechanical equipment skilling.

Ditto.

I got mine from just skilling on basic filters, around Manuf mech eq 1800~ Mechanics 1500~ and engineering 1500~. my BPC is now upto 1200~ and its does add chance of Success (COS) to higher bp’s. I now have max COS for all level 1-4 Bp’s for mechanical stuff.

Please note sme of my bp’s have not ever been used, so my quality rate for the bp’s is at 1, but i have max COS.

Profit or Return

Now that you guys have unlocked blueprint comprehension, are you finding that you are making a return on capital investment?

In other words

output/input*100 = 100% or more?

output (the value you produce)
input (the value you put in)

Or do you still find that you go below that 100% every now and again?

Questions

I have questions (again), if you don’t mind. I must say Kjetil and the other crafting vet’s advices have been of outmost importance in this forum, as it has helped me and other crafter-wannabe’s a lot.

First, my skills at the moment are:

Manufacture Mechanical Equipment: 836 (2)

Engineering: 822 (2)

Mechanics: 464 (1)

I started out with Basic Filter, and shortly after I bought a QR 100 level 3 Standard Damper BP and started skilling with it. After a while, the skill gain came to a crawl (as it seemed to me), so I started on a new QR 1 BP of the same type. It is now at QR 85’ish, and it is still yielding a pretty decent skill gain rate, so I’ll use it for a while further.

Questions:

 • Can somebody please explain why my Mechanics skill is so low compared to the others? I see Darky has equal levels in Mechanics and Engineering, so I am a bit puzzled about this. And what should I skill on to make it increase more than this?

 • Will I achieve Blueprint Comprehension much later becaue of this?

 • How important is “Mechanics” for making tools or armor, which is what I have in mind after a few more weeks (or months) of skilling.

Thanks again, you were a wonderful audience! claps hands :girl:

BTW: Almost forgot something.. I use one of those gel balls when I take a break from the skilling. It really helps the muscles in my hand relax, and I have been skilling for up to 15 hours with a few breaks stretching, massaging and using the ball with my hands. It makes all the difference in the world, really, and it is fairly cheap. I suggest everybody clicking that mousebutton this much buy one of those balls and use it.

It looks like this:

Scanning bots give a nice bonus to both the mechanics and electronics skill

BPC later? yes. much later? you may need about 200-300 lvls more in the other two skills that the others who have posted…

Mechanics isn’t, as far as i know, used at all in tool/armorcrafting. Engineering is though, and BPC also, so keep skilling

about the gel-ball, thanks for the advice. i should get myself one

Nope not one bit. im still loosing out. 99% of the time i loose out, though the gap is getting smaller.

I started on 1k batches of lyst and oil in filter skilling, then moved onto standard dampers and 2.5k lyst and 5k oil batches. now im on durable dampers, i still get about 90-94% back.

My adivce: if you seriously want to be a good crafter put in 100 dollars (approx 1k ped) and buy as much materials as you can (but only the ones you need). and skill, skill, skill until your materials run out. then you will see how much out of that 1k peds you have left (Probably about 850-950) and do it again, over and over until your mouse dies or you get RSI (Repetative Strain Injury).

Nice, but keep going, its a very long road.

With your skills you should still be on basic filters. When i left basic filters to do dampers i was doing 1k batches, but only getting 1 skill level gain (Ie 1200 to 1201) per 1k of materials. thats right just 1 level in each of the 3 skills.

I used to mine before going into crafting, so gained a lot of engineering that way. Yes in my opinion Mechanics skills the slowest of the 3, and the quickest being Manuf mech eq.

Probably not, you get BPC from overall combined skills.
• How important is “Mechanics” for making tools or armor, which is what I have in mind after a few more weeks (or months) of skilling.
Mechanics is not used in armor or weapons, same as Manuf mech eq, those two skills are only for crafting components. The important one, the reason why your skilling is, the engineering one. This single skill increases the value of your made items. if you have 0 engineering and make some settler shins the value might be 50pec, if you have 4k engineering the value might be something like 80pec.

As said before its a very long and expensive road.

Have you ever heard of going on autopilot?

I have found an old pic of my skills, ok, was a qualified human investigator, its just to increase my computer skills

Im still a noob  but it shows that my engineering is higher than my mechanics.

Side note: at that point my BPC was 870 and my Manuf mech eq was at 3172 (sorry no pic, but i chart my skills on excel).

This is about 3 months old. I say again this takes a LOT of time. and quite a few mouses as well

But Guys/Gals once you get there its a nice feeling.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

Thank you so much everybody, especially Darky and Darkfire for the outstanding tips and information here. +rep to both. I am sure it is a long and lonely road, and being in a SOC so that you have somebody to chat with helps. I also grab my room mate’s laptop sometimes to have something to read while clicking, and of course listening to music that I like  I will try filters again when I am done with this batch, to see how it works out. Scanning robots sounds like a good idea, too.

no probs, were all here to get good. good luck on your endevors. i usually just put it on auto and go out or go to bed.

I finally unlocked mine today.

Skills at the time:
eng=1475
mechanics=879
Manu Mech=1239

I have been spending a lot of time trying for this so I thought I might as well share my exp with those still looking.

Congrats Duke, ur now a proud member of the mile high club.

Congrats Duke! When did you get started? Just curious, as I think you did it the hard way, and that would be quite some inspiration!
