I have been putting a lot of though about the lack of role playing in PE. I think one of the obstacles is that you can’t realy be that bad of a person in PE without getting locked. So I ask if anyone has ideas of “Evil” things to do in PE that wont get you locked?
For example:
Pk’ing miners in PvP3
Pk’ing someone just before they kill there mob
PS i’m not looking to do these things kind of the opposite realy of what ppl could do to “us” that would give “us” reason to be agaist them.

Locking of harassers, scammers, bullies, rip off’ers etc is good IMO. I dont wish to see anyone doing that in the name of roleplaying. I hardly see it as a real roleplaying… its not like they would really roleplay - just justificate their actions without putting any rp elements in it.
I think the place where you can be bad is PvP as its an area where you can kill players and which you are not forced by any means to enter. I see lots complaints about “bad persons” in PvP. Just check at the threads about revive killing, people who kill afk or hunting players etc.
They dont much roleplay either but are “bad” anyway. (Which kind of proves the point that ability to be bad isnt that vital for roleplaying IMO.)
I was considered very evil for my “tantardion takeovers” and never even got a warning since its allowed in EULA so you can be “evil” without risking ban
You dont need to be a bad guy and do bad Things to Role Play. Of Course, damm all who come and Say Dont kill me im a Roleplayer throw Cottonballs
But in Generally all you need is Thinking about your Avatar. Give him a Past and some Goals and life for ist. Proably Pray to Lootius or maybe Create another God Called Decayus and Fight the evil Lootius Preachers in PvP3, showing them what Looting means :silly2:
Build up a Society following a Special Goal , make Events for the Communety like a Travel Tour for Newbies around some Teleporters. Create your own Ideologies and Ignore People who Talk offgame Topics.
Roleplay starts from yourself and you can just earn back what you give out.

I agree, but let me explain my thinking. The thing i think PE is missing to make role playing work is there are no major sides to anything. In other games you have Races or Factions that stick together and fight aganist other races or factions.
Now the kewl part about PE is MA realy has given us the power and free range to create something like this. Leaving the plot and storyline open to us. I just want to try and create a storyline or plot that will make PE more interesting. I have some things in mind i’m just not ready to go public with them yet. Trying to research and plan and see what we can do. So let me refrase the question.
If there were 2-3 sides to things and you where agaist the other side what would you do to them and what could they do to you that not be agaist the rules or make you want to file a support case.
I’ll give another example. You may simply not intereact with this “other side” no team hunts, no trading (auction aside cause it’s hard to know who’s who and stuff)
I guess the other question is can we deal with PE being more Roleplay and having a storyline. I think sometimes the real cash economy gets to much in ppls head and they are more concerened about making money or not loosing money then having fun with there money.
I think that Landgrab was a good stride to starting soc vs soc wars or alliance vs alliance wars. But i think MA has left the rest for us to develope, just not sure everyone wants to though.
I remember hearing of the days when i first started PE and cK was feared and you didn’t dare step into “their” pvp area. Things just seemed more fun and interesting when you had that kind of play.

I love it that MA or PE dont dictate my relatioship to someone else in PE.
I have played couple other games which have such PvP settings in large scale and I dont think I like them much. They tend to gather up certain kind of players…
I think PE is unique in a way that all players are in a naive way “one big family”. Community works more or less together to gather data, discuss loot theories, curse MA etc. Goal is not to win other players but to win the system. Its really the thing I love in PE. For me it has never been about killing the monster but succeeding survive with very limited resources.

Thats just what I would hate to have. Some kind of label put on your face which dictates how people treat you and what you can do. No more meeting another player and personality - now some faction division decides if that person is your friend or not.
Now many people shoot each other at PvP but still are friends at cities. It may not make sense for roleplaying but it does make atmosphere more friendly.

I dont think PvP is only way to get more roleplay. MA has created storyline that we are settlers on a planet. Its not likely that group of settlers brought by a single company or instance would suddently divide to multiple ones and start fighting each other.
I like having roleplay elements but I would like to see MA utilizing their robots more. I like landgrab idea of being between societies since people can join and leave societies freely and thus its very optional to take part into it. Also as it is in another continent its not forced into everyones playing.
Roleplaying as far as I see is very much up to you. I know people who do roleplay and even if I love OOCly talking I tend to speak them more roleplay like.
some good points Essi. Makes me think that realy it should be up to us and MA should implement more things like robot attacks or Mutant attacks even. Or some more NPC driven features.
Your right the thing about PE is that for the most part we are on the same side. It’s pretty much US vs NPC’s(robot’s, mutants, creatures).
I guess to me the thing is there are jerks out there or ppl that role play jersk at least the kill steal and revial kill and scam and pk just to make someone upset. I just figure why not make it so that it’s those “bad” ppl vs the “good” ppl.

Back to the drawing board i guess.

But remember when MA did have all of those bot attacks and every1 bitched about it??? Most ppl lost a lot of ped in those and it really became worthless imo

Two things: lag was worse then and there was no reward.
MA could easily for example make another “oil rig” such that it would actually be a robot controlled place.
For example:
Robots would have automatic mine set somewhere at PvP 3. It would produce stacks of random minerals and enmatters with fixed intervals. So “reward” there would grow all the time.
Place would be somewhat guarded by robots but the moment when players would enter certain radius from that mine would start timer after which robots would get reinforcements.
As it would be PvP 3 it would mean that you just cant run and grab resources but you need to get away alive too. (Maybe global announcement that someone grabbed resources to spice up PvP factor.)
You could either just try your luck with hit&run style, or come with heavily armed team and try to take over the mining area. Robot reinforcements should be so heavy that camping in that area would be impossible.
i’d like to see robot battles personally. that is the main obstacle in our colonization attempt, right? but they just sit there and don’t do nothing unless you happen to go hunting them.
i see the other side of the discussion as well though. i enjoy the freedom that Calypso offers.
maybe there should be at least an area that is more dynamic. a place where the same mobs are not in the same place everyday. where the landscape changes maybe due to robot or beast activity…or by the results of the battles that we wage there. i don’t know…i’m sure many of you can come up with good ideas for a dynamic area. it could be an interesting place.

Agreed. Even the early D&D editions which defined certain racial animosities disturbed me. Character development is much more interesting.

The community is a big part of the game - a community that extends far outside the game itself. The way the extended community works actually models the likely way a settlement might.

It reminds me of martial-artists, who practically destroy each other in the ring, then go out for pizza afterwards. Right time, right place.

or better yet… Amethera… Amethera has nothing fun to do on it atm… other than TI castle, and thats just for looks… and hunting is mostly a joke because of idiots with no economic intelligence that set high taxes on their land…
as for the roleplaying, and being evil… i do what i want, whether or not ppl like it… ive been nice for so long (mainly because of FwaF), and i think its just time to loosen up, now that i am a Menace to Society
