It would be useful therefore if people could explain, in simple terms, without sarcasm or notions of superiority [:)], quite what it is, how to access, etc., in relation to the various professions. Or link to something that does just that.
Unfortunately I can’t login right now, but I will add screenshots later.
The auto tool means, you don’t need to click all the time. You activate that function and it continues to use your currently equipted tool as long as the function is on.
Use case:
You have the Opalo gun in your hands.
You drag and drop the Auto-Tool on a key on your keyboard (let’s say the left CTRL key).
Now you hit the CTRL key once and the Opalo starts shooting. As soon as it’s reloaded, it shoots again and so on. It repeats that until you hit the left CTRL key again.
It’s a great tool if you need a lot of hits on a mob ;).
There are a few issues to consider… if you auto use a gun, and then click the trigger to shoot as well, the trigger can cancel the auto-use. It can also continue to fire after the mob is dead, and if you don’t stop it in time, you can waste ammo very easily.
One or two of my mates have also indicated that it doesn’t work on certain guns - Bravo as an example, but it works for me, so not sure what’s going on there.
Put it on a key you won’t hit by accident, for sure.
As I’ve not been able to login for a while, I’ve not had a chance to use this yet, but I’m so pleased MA have implemented it! It sounds like just the thing we need, and better still, no need for autoclickers!!
Reps to MA for adding it, and reps to Smoerble for explaining it so nicely
The “Toggle Auto-Use Tool” action icon was added to the Action Library with Version Update 10.1.2 on the 22nd October 2009.
You can access the action icons by pressing the Y key to open the “Action Library”.
If you press L and then press G, you can assign the function of this new icon to a specific key on your keyboard by dragging the icon from the Action Library onto the keyboard map. You can also drag it to create an icon on your desktop.
Noggin may also be pleased to hear that Version Update 10.1 on 6th October 2009 also added a new “Auto Mode” checkbox in the Manufacturing UI, which when checked allows the Construction Machine to go on manufacturing until stopped.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve attempted to use this when mining up a Lyst global, and it keeps cutting out all the time. I suspect this is more to do with my lag than the functionality though.
I beleive if you suffer from lag like me It may not work. I think it automaticly fires/uses tool while the reload bar is going, but because of lag my reload bar is usually stuck in one spot regardless of what where i am in the actual reload process. (example: it stayed at 1/2 on the reload bar last night for over 15 minutes of using a powerfist. The atrax were dying so I know it was reloading and hitting again, just the reload bar didnt register and I couldnt use the auto-use for it )
hope this gets working better even for us laggy guys,
I had been aware that an auto-use facility had been introduced and had found it in the action library, but hadn’t realised that I had to manually transfer the icon to the keyboard. :dunce:
My confusion was partly to do with the phrasing ‘Toggle Auto-Use Tool’ - I thought that there was some tool, like an attachment, that one had to obtain first. The phrase ‘Toggle Tool Auto-Use’ or ‘Toggle Auto-Use’ would make more sense.
I’m unspeakably frustrated by this function. When I’ve got it to work it’s absolutely brilliant but it keeps cutting out
Moreover, as lag cuts it out, I often find when the mob’s dead and I press it to STOP auto use I’m activating it instead - so I’m firing at a dead mob or not firing at a live one.
Cummon MA - there are many of us on slow broadband with high latency and dither that still like to play EU. It’s not beyond the wit of man to devise a mechanism to “force” auto use.
Why do we put up with this crap? I’m not generally a whiner and my overall feeling about EU is hugely positive - witness the hundreds of hours and thousands of USD I’ve sunk into the game over the years.
This sort of sloppiness however is like getting done up in my dinner jacket and stepping in dogs poo because I couldn’t be bothered to look at the floor.
Yeah it doesn’t work right for UL weaps but it works ok for L weaps. If it’s not working for you make a support case and tell MA what items you are trying to use but aren’t working. The more support cases the better, it will help them establish higher priority on the fix.
I agree with other posters here…it’s a GREAT feature to have, WHEN it doesn’t cut off!!! I hate that fact. I only use it for mining, and it’s fine when I’ve got a small claim to extract, but the larger claims, like lyst or oil…when you’ve got about 5min - 4 hours to extract. On many occasions, I’ll get up to do a task while it’s auto extracting, only to come back 5 min later to find that is stopped like the moment I stood up! Only once did I get it to extract for a full 30 min without stopping.
It’s a great feature, but gets frustrating when it stops constantly.
