Anyone play on 56k?

If so, how bad is the lag? I’m stuck on 56k since I live out in the country, and I’m really hoping I’ll be able to give PE a try. I’ve played World of Warcraft, and some other MMORPGs with my connection that were very playable, but none of them were FPS style games.

Is it worth all the downloading to try the game?

PE may run ok in some areas, but if you are in a town such as Port Atlantis where there are usually lots of people in the one area then you will prob get a fair bit of lag. You could probably get away with it if you are not near many other people. I havent tried on 56k, this is just what I have heard. I guess you can try it and see if it annoys you

Well, sounds like it’s at least worth a shot. Only 9 more hours out of 48 to go on the download

It will be just fine if you have more than 512 MB RAM. Worked for my laptop anyway (i played on a 31.2 connection)

lol, takes a fair while on broadband too for the initial download. But I can tell you its well worth the wait!

Raeky (where is he anyway?) used to play on a 56k modem and said it was playable unless you were in a very crowded place. Obviously, you will want to dial down most of the settings.

An old friend of mine played on 28.8k and said it worked ok with a little lag when he went in big herds or popular TP’s ( PA, Twin ) but I get a little lag when i go in them places too, and i’m on 1mb connection, he had almost the same spec comp as mine though, so i don’t get that, whatever the reason, i think you’ll be fine

Yes it’s very well doable, as long as there aren’t too many people around

Opening a very full storage can be hard from time to time to, but that’s nothing to worry about when you start

Damn it takes me about 6-7 min to download.
And yes it is well wourth it,
even the 57 hours to wait

I used to play on 31.2kbps and my brother Pheonix still does.

just stay away from big towns, if you TP in, auto run straight for the exit, if you drop connection, you usually land far enough away to relog, otherwise its a support case to MA, could be days to get in again. That or have a very trusted friend that can move you, and set up an alternate avatar with them on FL  Or have their phone number :stuck_out_tongue:

When your coming into town, take it step by step (litterally) watch your modem lights if you have them, when they stop flashing constantly, move closer, when they stop again, move again. too much data in one hit will drop you in seconds. worst thing is you cant stagger it when you run into a SC full of people.

worst thing i found was at VU time… everyone else would be in after half an hour, but being in australia, and the time the servers always went down for maintenence, i wouldnt get to play at all that night.

Hunting can get difficult to if you have engaged a mob and suddenly a group of 3 or more people all run onto radar. you tend to lag a bit.

IMHO dont hunt on dialup, its not worth it. but dialup is fine for crafting (if you find a nice quite SC) and mining, as long as your careful near towns.

Hope this helps.

Ok so I have the game set to 56k, yet it seems to have absolutely NO tolerance for lag. I could go on World of Warcraft, and be downloading something in the background. It would lag a lot, but the game NEVER disconnected me. PE seems intent on telling you the connection was lost 3 seconds after it gets any lag, why the hell is it like that? So annoying >:[

More RAM helps too. If you have 512MB or less it’s not likely to work well if at all.

when i was playing on dialup, my PC has 1gb ram, my brothers only 1/2 gb… the difference was more than noticable.

one reason that lag isnt tolerated in this game is because it presents and entry way into hacking the system. if the server doesnt keep careful track of packets and the time stamps on them, it would be a lot easier to gain access. therefore, if packets are taking too long to ping back to server or are getting lost, the server disconnects you for security reasons.

You have it down to an art ;D

talk to neri, he used dial up, up untill about 2 months ago, he would yell, CTD, every 30 seconds sometimes, but he got ahang of avoiding twin, pa, and anywhere crowded, so we would tell him no one was there, he would tp, and crash, lol

j/k neri

hey dude, when my broadband usage runs out i end up on dialup speed, if u do go into PA or twin, your fine, as long as u look @ the ground when ur walking-running, look up every now and then to se where your going, and turn al the detail and textrues and visuals effects OFF, youll be sweeeet
